FOOD-TASTIC NEWS
BIG BEAUTIFUL
BILL SCREWS WORKING POOR
About 2.4 million people, or about 6% of enrollees, could lose access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), in an average month, because of the new law's changes, which include stricter work requirements, the Congressional Budget Office estimated last month.
Millions more will see their monthly benefit amounts shrink because of other changes mandated by the law, such as a new restrictions on how an individual's benefits are calculated, it added. The total pool of people who will either be cut off from SNAP or see smaller monthly benefits could reach 22.3 million U.S. families, according to a July analysis from the Urban Institute.
About 42 million individuals in 22.3 million households received food stamps in 2023, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture report on the program.
While SNAP is funded by the USDA, every U.S. state is in charge of administering the program to its residents, with those administrative costs split between the federal and state governments. Some states are already beginning to implement some of the new law's food stamp restrictions, such as Pennsylvania, which is mandating the stricter work rules starting Nov. 1.
SNAP vouchers are available at the Wilkes-Barre Farmer’s Market every Thursday from 10am to 2pm. Access card holders can get money taken off their card and get in return $2.00 vouchers to use at the Market.
LAYS CHIPS BEST
FLAVOR COMING TO U.S. IN ’26
American chip-lovers have begged Lay’s to release a specific flavor for years—and now their dreams are coming true, with news the company is finally making Lay’s All Dressed chips available in the United States. Lay’s is announcing the news in a Super Bowl commercial, their first ad since the 2022 Super Bowl featuring Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen.
The All Dressed flavor has only been available in Canada up until now, much to the frustration of U.S. customers addicted to the delicious snacks. The chips have a unique flavor, combining Barbecue, Salt & Vinegar, and Sour Cream & Onion to create a sweet, savory, and tangy taste. “Crisp, spicy, full of flavour. Love, love, loved them. Tastes like they took bbq chips, salt and vinegar chips, a little special secret seasoning and mixed it all together into one bag of delight! Whatever spices Lay’s is using on their All Dressed Chips, is 100% addictive. I want another bag N O W !!!” commented a reviewer on Walmart Canada. Some are saying these chips are Canada’s gift to the world.
POP TART
DONUTS FROM
KRISPY KREME?
Ever want to mix a Pop Tart with a doughnuts? Apparently, the masterminds at Krispy Kreme are working hard to meld those two into one doughnuts . Krispy Kreme and Pop Tarts will be kick this off in the new year. When I spoke with the Meadow Avenue heritage store, the manager didn’t hear about it but opined that he doesn’t have any information yet. That stated, here are the proposed options.
Pop-Tarts Frosted Strawberry Doughnut: an unglazed shell doughnut filled with strawberry filling, dipped in shortbread icing, and topped with shortbread pieces, sugar sprinkles, strawberry filling drizzle and a Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tarts Bites piece.
Pop-Tarts® Frosted Chocolatey Fudge Doughnut: an Original Glazed Doughnut dipped in chocolate icing and topped with brownie batter flavored buttercreme, crushed Frosted Chocolatey Fudge Pop-Tarts Bites and white nonpareils.
Pop-Tarts Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon Doughnut: a cinnamon sugar doughnut topped with brown sugar cinnamon cream cheese flavored buttercreme and a Frosted Cinnamon Roll Pop-Tarts Bites piece.
So how much will these donuts set you back? I used the Krispy Kreme website to check for pickup at the Burbank, CA location, and it came out to $23.99 for the Crazy Good Doughnuts Specialty Dozen: Three Strawberry, three Chocolatey Fudge, three Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon, and three Original Glazed® Doughnuts.
PRICE COMPARISON OF DOUGHNUTS
KRISPY KREME $12.38 glazed $14.68 variety dozen.
DUNKIN’ $12.39 dozen.
DUCK DONUTS $19.00 TO $24.00 A Dozen.
CURRY DONUTS $10.99.
If you want to maximize the calories, Krispy Kreme in my opinion never disappoints. Dunkin’ is consistent and Curry is your best bet for quality ad well as price. Duck Doughnuts is nothing more than a regular doughnut with various toppings.
