COUNCIL PROFILES

RICK CRONAUER

Rick Cronauer is a Democratic candidate for Wilkes-Barre City Council, District A. Rick was raised in Wilkes-Barre and operates a nearly 100-year-old, family-owned electrical contracting business within the district.
He is a graduate of Meyers High School and a Cum Laude graduate of Wilkes University. He and his wife, Lynne, have two children, Jessica and Derek, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth. Rick is a member of the Wilkes-Barre Board of Appeals, the Building Industry Association of NEPA, the International Association of Electrical Contractors, the Wyoming Valley Country Club, the Oak Grove Club and the Wilkes-Barre YMCA.
Rick believes he will play a pivotal role in improving the quality of life in his district and plans to serve as an honest, reliable and aggressive voice for the residents of South Wilkes-Barre and Goose Island by:
- Holding regular town hall meetings to prioritize issues of concern and open the lines of communication between residents and City Hall.
- Encouraging residents and local businesses to get involved in the restoration of their own neighborhoods.
- Focusing on the security of District A neighborhoods, including safe recreational facilities for children.

BRUCE J. REILLY

Bruce J. Reilly announces he is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Wilkes-Barre City Council, in District B.
I am a 50yr. old life long resident of Wilkes-Barre.
Married 29 yrs to the former Paulette Hando, a GAR graduate.
We have 3 daughters, Kristy, Colleen, and Erin.
Graduated from Bishop Hoban H.S. 1974.
After being hired by the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department in 1981, I continued my education in Public Safety.
Attended many classes and seminars involving, Firefighting, Hazardous Materials, Terrorist incidents, EMS,
Incident Command at Disasters, and more for nearly 26 years.
I am a member of LEPC, Local Emergency Planning Commission, of Luzerne County.
I feel I can give Council a new perspective on which direction our City should be going.
I don't feel City Council should accept full pension benefits for part time work.
We need to restore safe neighborhoods, and pass ordinances that help our Code Enforcement Officials get tough on absentee landlords. We need to rid our city of blighted properties.
Maintain our city services, and give Police, Fire, and DPW workers the equipment to do so.
I would support a return of the Spring Cleanup.
The city should also support more activities involving our University and College students. They are a big asset to the success of our downtown.
I would always make public concerns a top priority.
Thank You, and please come out to vote on May 15th.
Bruce J. Reilly

Dave, A comment. Cronauer is truly impressive and might give SMV fits. I met him a few times around town and thought he'd be a good leader for the city. If he wins the Demo nod, he can be the future of the party and the city.
However, Walter G. might have something to say about that.

Dave:
Get rid of all of 'em. Impose term limits! One and done. Since we're changing everything, put council on a 7 year term. No pensions, no bennies, just 7 and see ya.

Dave,
I went to the Bureau of Elections office yesterday to look over a few Campaign Finance records...Guess who gave Rick Cronauer money for his Campaign....You guessed it....Mayor Tom Leighton....Seems like Rick is the chosen one for the City Administration....Politics...you got to love it...and Rick will say at every meeting that he is not part of the political machine...Seems if you take money from the Devil then the Devil you become...I thought that Rick was an independant thinker...seems he will take money from anyone to get elected to be another "Rubber Stamp" for the current situation in Wilkes-Barre...I will not and have never taken money from a person that I dont feel is on the same agenda as I am in regard to the City Taxpayers...Seems some will sacrafice their own soul and belief's for a political Job...Vote for Walter L Griffith Jr. a man of integrity and character.

I'm struck by two things in this Council race: the number of candidates who are very good and articulate. The other is the lack of mnority (ie African American) candidates not willing to take the plunge.

How you going to beat Tony Thomas? Maybe Tony should live in the city. Tony uses his parent's address in the city but check the county database he owns property at RR 1 BOX 297D,WAPWALLOPEN PA
18660. A 48 year-old male still lives at home with his parents? At the forum he stated a relative owned the property, check the tax records.

Walter, do you really think Rick Cronauer is the chosen one by the administration??? That really explains the signs with Leighton and Vitanovek on them. Walter, you really aren't the sharpest tool in the shed are you. If i can give you a piece of advice, Keep talking, because you lose more votes every time you open your mouth.

IN RESPONSE
Ms. Kane was "appointed to council"?
I THINK THE RELEASE SHE SENT ME MEANT THAT SHE WAS ELECTED TO COUNCIL. THE LAST GUY APPOINTED WAS TONY THOMAS TO FILL IN AL BORIS' SEAT. KATHY KANE PULLED HUGE VOTE TOTALS BOTH TIMES SHE RAN. SO SHE WAS APPOINTED BY THOUSANDS.

Cronauer is a Leighton pawn.
DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT BUT THE MAYOR HAS HIS CHOICES. IN 2003, FRANK HINE ENTERED THE RACE BECAUSE HE WAS TOLD HE'D GET SUPPORT AND THERE WOULD BE DISTRICTS. THEN THAT WAS OVERTURNED AND HE FINISHED DEEP IN THE FIELD. MY PROBLEM IS HOW DOES LEIGHTON TURN HIS BACK ON SHIRLEY WHO HAS VOTED DOWN THE LINE WITH HIM ON EVERYTHING.

How you going to beat Tony Thomas? Maybe Tony should live in the city.
NOT SURE ABOUT THE RESIDENCY ISSUE WITH TONY BUT I WAS IMPRESSED WITH HIS STONES AT THE FORUM. WHEN A VOTER COMPLAINED ABOUT DRUG USAGE WITH OUT OF TOWNER'S SELLING AND CAUSING CRIME, TONY SAID THAT THE MARKETPLACE WAS HERE. TOLD THE LADY HER FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS EVEN HER GRANDKIDS WERE BUYING THE DOPE. CLASSIC TRUTH TELLING. GOTTA ADMIRE IT.

Dear Anon,
Please go to Voter Services and look at the Reports and you will see for yourself what I have said is true...Look what they did to Rick Gazinski in 2003 with Bill Barrett...Rick was promised a seat on City Council in exchange for all the insurance buisness from the City...then the last minute they turned on Rick and put Bill Barrett in his place because they found out that Bill Barrett was going to be a "Rubber Stamp" for the Mayor...thats what Rick Crounaer will be as well...I know what I say is true because I was told this by someone on City Council after the Forum on Sunday...so dont condemn the messenger because you dont like the message..
