The LuLac Edition #323, Oct. 13th, 2007

PHOTO INDEX: 13 QUESTIONS.

13 QUESTIONS

1. WHO WILL WIN IN THE COMMISSIONERS RACES IN BOTH COUNTIES?

IN LUZERNE, SKREP, URBAN AND PETRILLA IN THAT ORDER. IN LACKAWANNA, WASHO, O'BRIEN AND CORDARO.

2. HOW MANY STEPS BEFORE THE QUEEN?

TWO BABY STEPS, ONE GIANT STEP. THE QUEEN GETS TO CHOOSE. OF COURSE, IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE QUEEN. AND WHO HE OR SHE MIGHT BE.

3. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU BUDDY BIG ED AFTER 2010?

COMCAST BROADCASTER, CABINET MEMBER AND CONSOLER IN CHIEF OF SUSAN WALDMAN.

4. WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE BIG BAND LEADER?

KAY KYSER. HERE'S THE REASON WHY FROM YOU TUBE.

5. FAVORITE POLITICAL TV DRAMA ON TV?

PLEASE WHAT A SOFTBALL, COMMANDER IN CHIEF FOLLOWED CLOSELY BY THE WEST WING AND THEN SLATTERY'S PEOPLE, A DRAMA STARRING RICHARD CRENNA FROM THE MID 60s.

6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?

BLACK ON ME, ROYAL BLUE OR RED ON WOMEN.

7. YOUR FAVORITE POLITICIAN ON THE WEST SIDE?

PHYLLIS MUNDY FOR HER STAYING POWER AND ARTICULATION OF ISSUES, JOE CHACKE FROM FORTY FORT, THE GUY SEEMS TO HAVE SOME SMARTS AND IS WELL SPOKEN, JIM HAGGERTY, THE MAYOR OF KINGSTON WHO SEEMS TO HAVE EVERYTHING RUNNING SMOOTHLY IN THAT TOWN AND MY COUSIN P.J. PRIBULA.

8. YOU KNOW A LOT ABOUT HISTORY, WASN'T ML KING'S FATHER A REPUBLICAN?

INDEED HE WAS BUT THAT CHANGED DURING THE 1960 ELECTION WHEN AFTER HIS SON WAS JAILED IN A DEMONSTRATION, JOHN KENNEDY'S CAMPAIGN, AT THE BEHEST OF ROBERT KENNEDY MADE A SYMPATHETIC CALL TO DADDY KING AND TO KING HIMSELF IN JAIL. AFTER THAT, THE KING'S SPREAD THE WORD THE DEMOCRATS WERE MORE COMMITTED TO CIVIL RIGHTS THAN THE PARTY OF LINCOLN.

9. ARE YOU IN THE TANK FOR STEVE URBAN?

NOPE. I JUST SEE THE GUY ALL OVER, NOT SHYING AWAY FROM ANYBODY OR ANY QUESTION AND IN THIS DAY AND AGE AND IN THIS AREA, THAT TO ME, IS IMPRESSIVE.

10. HOW 'BOUT THEM COWBOYS?

YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT. THEY ARE DOING VERY WELL AND LOOKING LIKE A GOOD IF NOT GREAT TEAM THIS YEAR. AS FRANK SINATRA USED TO SING, "LIFE GOES IN CYCLES".

11. ARE YOU HAPPY YOUR MAN AL GORE WON THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE AND WILL HE RUN FOR PRESIDENT?

I'M THRILLED AL WON THE PRIZE. I THINK GORE HAS ANOTHER PRESIDENTIAL RUN IN HIM BUT IT MIGHT NOT BE THIS TIME. HISTORY WILL JUDGE HIM AS THE WINNER OF THE ELECTION BUT MORE OF A MAN OF STATURE THAN THE GUY THAT'S IN THERE NOW.

12. HOW 'BOUT THAT BRETT FARVE?

IN THE EARLY 90S, ON A CHRISTMAS EVE, THE PACKERS WERE PLAYING DETROIT IN A FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF GAME. FARVE WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE BUT THREW THE WINNING PASS ON A LAST SECOND PLAY. I TOLD MRS. LULAC THEN THAT THE GUY WOULD GET A LIFETIME PASS FROM ME AND I WOULD NEVER, EVER CRITICIZE HIM AGAIN. AND I HAVEN'T. HE'S GREAT. HERE'S A TRIBUTE SENT TO ME BY MY FRIEND AND FORMER BOSS, GREG STROM FROM MADISON WISCONSIN.

13. FRED THOMPSON AS RONALD REAGAN, WHAT'DYA THINK?

I DON'T THINK! C'MON, REAGAN WAS AN ELECTED GOVERNOR, TWO TERMS, WHO HAD A SET OF PRINCIPLES, KNEW THEM AND STUCK TO THEM. THIS GUY IS NO RONALD REAGAN. AND FOR GOPERS TO MAKE THAT COMPARISON IS AN INSULT TO PRESIDENT REAGAN'S MEMORY.

Love the blog and 13 questions. Need to tell you this, most everybody I talk to says you are a great guy. Then there are some that say while you are a nice man, and intelligent, but there's a little bit of difference in your musical tastes. Your music choices are kind of like your political opinions, all over the place. I never knew why until I saw your favorite big band leader. Wasn't sure who he was but I clicked on to see him. It explains a lot...about you.
As far as Thompson, you're right on. He thinks he can breeze through this thing and it ain't gonna happen.
REndell is going to DC after 2010 if he doesn't explode from cheesesteaks and pizza.
And Bret Farve, you're a better man than I. He has been maddening and quite frankly the reason why the Packers have not grown in the last few years.
Not 13 answers but hey, I didn't have Kay Kyser as an idol when I was growing up.

Very gutsy picks for the Commissioners races. So you think Bobby C wins again? Wow! This paper ballot thing is going to cause much mischief in Lackawanna County.
And as far as Kay Kyser goes, my grandmom loved him.
And I freaked when you mentioned Slattery's people. That was on CBS, Friday nights at 10, a great political show that unfortunately lasted 13 weeks. Keep bringing them out of the vault Yonki, we may love our politics but we love going down memoery lane too.

Dave,
You have to be kiding me, PJ Pribula as one of your favorite politicians on the West Side. (I'm sure a family bias.) How about picking someone who can fill out a term when elected and doesn't take off when things get tough.

HEY, HE'S A COUSIN AND OUR FAMILY HAS A LONG LINE OF BIAS AND LOYALTY. IT'S A SUBJECTIVE QUESTION.
