The LuLac Edition #451, April 1st, 2008

PHOTO INDEX: LOCAL HILLARY VOLUNTEER OLGA PARIS MANICK WITH HER SIGN OF SUPPORT, A DEMOCRATIC RALLY WOULDN'T BE COMPLETE WITHOUT THE PRO LIFE CRAZIES, MY FAVORITE TV REPORTER JILL KNOPKA INTERVIEWING A CLINTON BACKER, SO I GO ALL THE WAY TO THIS HILLARY RALLY AND ALL I GET IS ANOTHER PICTURE WITH GOVERNOR ED!!!!, HEY, JUST KIDDING THE GOVERNOR IS MY MAN, AS A YOUNG LADY IS TAKING MY PICTURE HE SAYS "IS THIS YOUR DAUGHTER" AND I SAY, "NO BUT THAT'S THE BEST COMPLIMENT I HAD ALL DAY!" AND GOVERNOR ED JUST BEAMS AT BOTH OF US, WHAT'S THAT THEY SAY SOMETIMES, "IT'S NOT THE SHOW BUT THOSE WHO GO!!", A WOMAN FROM ARKANSAS, NOW A PA. RESIDENT TRIED IN VAIN TO GET THIS PHOTO OF THE SENATOR AND CHELSEA TO THE CANDIDATE. LIKE MOST ART, THE PICTURE GOT MIXED REVIEWS AND SHE NEVER GOT IT TO THE SENATOR, A CROWD SHOT SHORTLY BEFORE THE EVENT STARTED, PITTSTON MAYOR JOE KEATING IS SEEN IN THE CROWD MEETING AND GREETING FRIENDS, AVOCA COUNCILWOMAN MARY ANN TIGUE WAS A MEDIA STAR BEING INTERVIEWED BY CHANNEL 3 IN PHILADELPHIA AND WLYN AS WELL AS A FEW NEWSPAPERS REPORTERS. TIGUE, A TWENTY YEAR COUNCIL INCUMBENT TOLD THE STORY OF SENATOR CLINTON'S HELP IN GETTING AVOCA MONEY FOR A PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE HAZLETON HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND. (THEY HAD A KILLER VERSION OF INNAGADAVIDA!!!)

ROCKIN' WILKES BARRE!!

This rally this afternoon for Senator Clinton was not your father's campaign rally. Peppered with rock and roll music and a high school marching band, a band called Soul Busters and hundreds of signs touting her candidacy, Senator Clinton needed no introduction by the time she took the stage at King's. But County Commissioner MaryAnne Petrilla introduced her anyway (can we foresee a Congresswoman Petrilla someday??) along with Governor Rendell. Mayors Leighton and Doherty were on hand to lend support too. When the candidate came out to the strains of the theme from "Rocky", Wilkes Barre and the King's Gym went crazy.
Some key points the Senator made, that the No Child Left Behind slogan would become just that when she took office, in an answer to a question from Iraq War Vet Mike Kozlosky she said under her administration veterans, especially those returning to the workforce would be treated better than they are today. The Senator mentioned trade and said that inferior goods produced in China cannot be tolerated in an American commercial system, there was a little criticism of Senator Obama's ad that says he never took money from oil companies. Clinton pointed out that was good because it was illegal to do so and pointed out the falseness of the ad. At one point in the speech, people in the back could not see the Senator because supporters in front would not sit down. Campaign workers and security people couldn't get them to budge so the Senator made a plea for them to sit. And they did. Afterward she cracked, "See! Another problem I just solved!"
In a climactic end to the speech, Senator Clinton called the Presidential campaign a job interview. Making the point that the American people would be hiring the next leader for a big job, the Senator asked to be hired. Those remarks ended the speech and got her a standing ovation.
Afterwards she took questions, there were a few mic problems but the questions got asked and answered. Later, before Mrs. Clinton left, she signed for voters and the folks wanting to meeting and greet her.

IN THE CROWD....

WARM'S Brian Hughes and Magic 93's Adam Sieminski....Dr. Allen Frank was serving as an usher and crowd coordinator.....In a response to a question about MSNBC's Chris Matthews coverage of her campaign, Senator Clinton let the questioner hang the TV talk show blowhard........Atty. Charles Bufalino and Atty. Joe Cosgrvove attended and were greeting friends. Cosgrove used his athletic abilities as a former Notre Dame mascot to make a beeline toward the Senator....WILK's Sue Henry attended working the event for the station resplendent in King's College red......Many supporters had white and blue hats saying "Clinton Country".....former GOP council candidate from Wilkes Barre Peter Gagliardi, a former King's grad made the scene and said even though he was a registered Republican he was impressed..............Scranton Mayor Jim McNulty was in attendance and greeting old friends....Two points the Senator made got huge responses from the crowd, the first was when she talked about her caregiver tax credit so that people taking care of elderly or disabled people could get a break and that a decent college loan program should be reinstated so that students won't have to pay back college loans at huge rates of 20% or more. People my age nodded in agreement when Clinton mentioned she got a 2% loan to go to law school.......Another innovative part of the speech was the Senator's proposal to start a bond program like the WWII "Buy Bonds" campaign which funded the war effort, this program would put money in badly needed infrastructure problems. (Please don't tell us she hit that pothole on KIdder Street coming in!!!!)

WHY QUIT???

After such a reception, (which a local reporter confided to me was more exciting than the Obama rally earlier in the day at Wilkes) why should this candidate quit the race? There are tons of support out there for her and I can't help but think the enthusiasm of the crowds keep her and the mission she has embarked on humming along.

OBAMA IN TOWN
Senator Obama was at Wilkes today. I could only get to one event. At some point, we'll attend an Obama rally.

Well I can see you finally got your sorry, disabled ass out from under the computer and went on the road. I have been your most unbearable critic but your report of the stuff happening behind the scenes was priceless. Years ago, your writing as well as your radio and TV shows were wonderful. I had wondered if you had lost your touch. You are a cogent obswerver of human behavior and God has given you the gift to communicate all that action. I know newspapers and TV are limited by space and time constraints, but your report was well done. And I enjoyed it. I learned from it. Thank you.
YOUR KOMOTION DATE FROM DURYEA
P.S. PLease don't think this changes anything, I still think you're the same pompous, overblown piece of **** (edited) you were in high school, but you do have talent to go along with that swelled head!

As a local quasi member of the media with your site, I resent your characterization of Pro Life demonstrators as "crazies". You hypocrite. You wax poetic about your old time church closing down, you gush over the new Pope and yet seem to have no problem leaving the unborn unprotected. I'd pray for you but you just aren't worth it.

Dave, What a day. My head is spinning. This was like a day of college football, 9am to midnight for political junkies. By far WILK and the crew (especially Steve Corbett) did a bang up job. And we can always count on your take to be a bit different than the rest. And how about you and Governor Ed????Y You guys just looked like you found a new cheesesteak factory. I'm a Cub's fan, Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two!!!!" I say, "all right!!!!!!!!"

I DON'T BELIEVE IN KILLING BABIES BUT I ALSO DON'T BELIEVE I OR ANY CATHOLIC HAS THE RIGHT TO TELL A WOMAN WHAT TO DO WITH HER BODY. IT'S NOT MY PLACE. I HOPE SHE TAKES THE MOST PRUDENT ACTIONS (LIKE BIRTH CONTROL) BEFORE RESORTING TO THE FINAL CHOICE OF ABORTION, BUT I SHOULD HAVE NO CONTROL OVER IT. BY THE WAY, THERE WERE 4 PEOPLE IN THAT PROTEST LINE, ISSUE LOSING A LITTLE STEAM THERE?
that Jill has got one rockin ******
ONE ROCKIN' MIND, RIGHT? I'M SURE WHAT I EDITED WAS A MISTYPE ON YOUR PART.
And how about you and Governor Ed????Y You guys just looked like you found a new cheesesteak factory.
WE BOTH SKIPPED THE LINE THAT SAID, "SALAD ANYONE??"

You need a Scranton/Lackawanna County correspondent.
I wonder if anyone cares that the O'Bama location in Dunmore was just across the street from the old Scranton Red Sox Ballpark. Babe Ruth may have played there, but Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige never got the chance! Somehow America makes progress in spite of it's politicians.

Tons of support for her in NEPA...one of the six places she claims is her "hometown" -- along with Chicago, Little Rock, New York, Washington, etc...

It's over. Kaput. If the superdelegates hand this to her, the party can kiss the African-American vote goodbye for a generation.

A Lackawanna reporter is a good idea. The Yonk tries to cover both counties but with events like this, he needs another set of eyes. Too bad there isn't a credible blog source in the LAC. Although I must say Borys's blog on the Times is very comprehensive.

Congresswoman Petrilla? Aren't we overeaching a bit? And speaking of Commissioners, where has Skrep beenn in all this hoopla? Interesting to know why the big guy is not making an appearance. Good stuff, nice job on covering the event. And your Komotion date? All the nuts aren't in the Planters cans.

The "cheesecake factory" comment was hilarious! David and his buddy Eddie!
Is Ed campaigning for the VP nod under Hillary?
I've stopped listening to Steve Corbett ever since he "morphed" into Rob Niehard and got in bed with the Rodham Boys. Seems to me
he's pushin too hard for Hillary.

one thing I will say for this blogger - he always treats his commenters with respect and grace even when they are being less than respectful and gracious in their criticism. This is a mark of a civilized gentleman!

I agree with the last poster. Given all his adversities, some self imposed, some accidental, Dave Yonki has always been a class act. And a kind man too.
