PHOTO INDEX: JUDICIAL ROBES
AND THE LATE BUDDY HOLLY.

VACATED

The state Supreme Court vacated its Jan. 8 order in which it declined to take jurisdiction of the Juvenile Law Center's request to review hundreds of juvenile court cases. The cases were the ones in which the children appeared before Judge Mark Ciavarella without an attorney. This is good news to the kids who appeared before the tainted Judge and will certainly have reprecussions into the future.

RETENTION: NO?

Usually retention races for stting Judges are a piece of cake. Even when a Judge is under fire, it takes a lot to get them ousted. The last Judge to lose a retention vote was Frank Eagan of Lackawanna County in the 90s. Even Arthur Daleessandro won retention when he was under fire. But this year might be different. We have two Judges of stellar character, Thomas Burke and Peter Paul Olszewski running for a new term. They should win in a walk but in yesterday's Times Leader, there were many comments attached to the on line story and most of them were not complementary. The majority said these Judges had to know what was going on and turned a blind eye to the Judicial scandals. To be fair, they might not have known what was going on with Conahan and Ciavrella. They might not want to have been reassigned like Judge Muroski. Whatever the reasons, the story quotes veteran political campaign manager Ed Mitchell as advising them to be vigilant and not take the election for granted. The 2005 statewide election ousted Justice Russell Nigro from his seat because of public dissatisfaction with the Legislative payraise. That may happen here in Luzerne County in '09 to two decent Judges. More to come on this story as we watch the races for Common Pleas Judge.

50 YEARS AGO TODAY

Buddy Holly was killed today in a plane crash in Iowa. With him was 17 year old Richie Valens and the Big Booper, J.P. Richardson. Though not political, this is an anniversary of note because it changed the course of popular music at the tale end of the 50s decade. Many regard this date as "The Day the Music Died" in reference to the Don McLean song, "American Pie". On our 590 FOREVER companion blog site, we offer an explanation of the song. Here's the link:

And from fifty years ago, a classic Buddy Holly song recorded in New York on Oct. 20th, 1958 and released shortly after his death in 1959.

I don't care either judges "stellar" character. The rumors of what was going on at the court house were known for years. This was the worst kept secret. These judges stood by while Judge Lokuta was singled out for destruction. I will not be voting for retention.

"singled out for destruction"- Are you kidding me? She may not have committed something as serious as the other two clowns, but showing favoritism on the bench, using your staff as slaves, and just being an ignorant person that did what she damn well pleased is what had her removed. Or did the state judges get paid off by the two clowns? She just had the misfortune of her actions surfacing first.....

Peter Paul and Toole fly in Powell's plane to Florida to stay at the Condo. Wink Wink, Nod Nod. Retention - NOT.

Sprague rulings sabotage Lokuta's case, and he never reveals that he has been doing legal work for ... PA Child Care.

A lot more crud is being dug up; a little early for labeling who is "decent" at the Courthouse, and who isn't.
