PHOTO INDEX: THE LUZERNE COUNTY COURTHOUSE.
NOW THERE'S 11
They have to be going for the record from the early 1990s when 14 attorneys ran for the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas. It's enough to fill a football team if they played both ways. Anyone for defense? We just might hit 22! The players, or starting candidates are so far, Thomas O’Connor, Eugene Sperazza, Joseph Musto, Jennifer Rogers, Tina Polachek Gartley, Thomas Marsilio, C.J. Bufalino, Richard Hughes, Joe Terrana, Joseph Sklarosky Jr., Daniel Zola and William Amesbury.
SHARKEY PLEADS
William Sharkey, Luzerne County Court Administrator has entered a guilty plea to charges he stole more than $70,000 in illegal gambling proceeds. Authorities say that for a decade, Sharkey failed to turn over money seized in illegal gambling raids that was turned over to him by the State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement. The Hazleton resident entered the plea at a hearing before Senior U.S. District Judge Edwin Kosik in the federal court in Scranton. Sharkey will be sentenced at a later date.
