PHOTO INDEX: WISCONSIN CONGRESSMAN DAVID OBEY.

THE EDWIN STARR TAX

Rep. David Obey, a Wisconsin Democrat and the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, is the latest lawmaker to call for a new tax aimed at the rich to pay for a troop increase in Afghanistan. White House Budget Director Peter Orszag has suggested it could cost the government $40 billion per year to send the 40,000 new troops sought by top U.S. commander Gen. Stanley McChrystal. (The Pentagon puts that figure somewhat lower.) Obey tells CBSNews.com the cost of the war could "destroy the other things we are trying to do in our economy." In interviews with CBS News and ABC News, the Wisconsin lawmaker said that he favors a "war surtax" in which high-earners pay five percent of their incomes and lower-earners pay a smaller percentage, down to one percent. Makes sense to me. For years the GOP Congress poured money into a hole in the war in Iraq looking for weapons of mass destruction. If the whiners are so concerned about the war, let them put the same litmus test on it that they are trying to do with health care. If they are so worried about the deficit, let them put their money where their collectives mouths are.

DENIED!!!!!!

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court denied the request of former Luzerne County Judge Ann Lokuta to reinstate her pay and benefits.
According to a late edition of the Times Leader the high court also refused her request for extraordinary relief to review her removal from the bench in December 2008 by the state Court of Judicial Discipline. The high court said the Court of Judicial Discipline is still considering her claims based on evidence arising out of the recent revelations of corruption in Luzerne County.

This has got to be the biggest bunch of bullshit ever. A war tax with the big dollar people paying 5% all the way down to the little people who will pay 1%. Damnit all to hell, don't you realize that another 1% income tax will be cripling to the lower middle class? When the hell can we earn enough to go out for dinner, forget about the lexus in the garage. Bring them home, each and every one of them..Want to save the county, put these military on our borders and then get Lowes, Home Depot and Campbells to stop putting up signs and lables in anything other than English! This really is bullshit.

I voted for Obama so that he could bring Troops home not send more!
This situation in Afghanistan has been screwed up to the max so far
and historically its a graveyard for any country who interferes.
Further, the generals always say more Troops is the answer and for his part in the Pat Tillman disgrace, I just dont trust McChrystal. We would be out damn quick if the government started rationing and other measures to pay for their war. If youre going to go to war, do it! Send 500,000
invade the place or get out. That wont happen.

Everyone needs to watch the Bill Moyers PBS show reviewing Johnson and Vietnam. It is eye opening and proves the point that party affiliation doesn't make any difference in decision making.

I HAVEN'T READ IT YET BUT I AGREE WITH HIS STATED SENTIMENT. WE ALL ARE A HUGE FAMILY AND OUR GOVERNMENTS, THE DEFACTO HEADS OF SAID FAMILY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS. I EVEN WENT CORBETT ONE BETTER TODAY. AS I DROVE HOME FROM SCHOOL I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF THOSE IN JAIL, INDICTED AND UNDER A CLOUD. CAN'T BE A GOOD TIME FOR THEM. CORBETT'S THOUGHTS ARE PRETTY COMPREHENSIVE, I LIKE THEM, YOU DON'T. BUT WE'RE ALL AROUND THAT BIG THANKSGIVING TABLE TOGETHER.
