The LuLac Edition #1174, May 7th, 2010

PHOTO INDEX: FORMER SENATOR RICK SANTORUM, SENATE CANDIDATE JOE SESTAK, OUR 1966 LOGO, THE LATE WALTER ALESSANDRONI, AND CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR ANTHONY HARDY WILLIAMS.

SANTORUM NEXT NOMINEE

I heard Rick Santorum on my friend Sue Henry’s show today. I’ve always oppsed his philosophies and his way of governing. But Santorum has a very rationale way of presenting his ideas, is personable and will connect with the conservatives in the party. Mitt Romney my friends is not the answer for the GOP of 2012 that is looking for a candidate with an edge. Rick Santorum is. Book this prediction: if he wants it bad enough, Rick Santorum will the GOP nominee in 2012.

LOU STANDS OUT

Hazleton Mayor and 11th Congressional District candidate Lou Barletta received the endorsement of the Independence Hall Tea Party PAC. The endorsement was announced Sunday in Philadelphia. "We think our endorsed candidates can win in November... and if they do win, you can be sure Nancy Pelosi will no longer be Speaker of the House," said PAC Vice President for New Jersey Bill Green. "Our board, comprised of members from the tri-state region, carefully and thoughtfully considered the candidates and, in almost every instance, reached a unanimous decision." The Independence Hall Tea Party PAC was formed in February to assist federal candidates in the tri-state region (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware) who share the organization's commitment to limited government, fiscal responsibility, and lower taxes. "Millions of average American citizens are coming together and joining the tea party movement. They are tired of the federal government's outrageous spending and grab for power. They want change and responsibility, and that's what my campaign is all about," Mayor Barletta said. "I'm pleased to receive this endorsement."

BLAME BUSH

When George Bush was in office, I was accused of blaming him for just about everything. Someday Bush will make a comeback to restore his place in history. But Pa 2010.com reports that Democratic Senate candidate Joe Sestak has brought old “W” out of the woodwork with a commercial directly aimed at Arlen Specter. Sestak reminds us all that Specter was a Republican. (I know, I became a Republica back in ’04 to vote for Specter in the primary). I like Sestak, love Arlen but this ad is right on and is a political bulls eye.

TONY MANIA

Anthony Hardy Williams candidate for Governor has one smoking ad running. Williams has an ads featuring people throwing around a box, the symbol of his candidacy proclaiming Williams is thinking outside the box. He has his wife, unions, minorities, old people and hell yes even a Steelers fan with a definitely non Roethlisberger jersey. Good ad.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

KANJO AND GEISINGER

Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski (PA-11) joined Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to announce over $16 million for Geisinger Clinic in Danville. Geisinger is one of 15 communities selected across the country to serve as pilot communities for eventual wide-scale use of health information technology through the Beacon Community program. The $220 million in Recovery Act awards will not only help achieve meaningful and measurable improvements in health care quality, safety and efficiency in the selected communities, but also help lay the groundwork for an emerging health IT industry that is expected to support tens of thousands of jobs. “Geisinger has been a model for quality and efficient health care throughout the country,” said Congressman Kanjorski. “Today, I joined Vice President Biden to announce funding that will help enable Geisinger to continue its outstanding work for Northeastern Pennsylvania. Through the Beacon Community program and the expansion of health information using new technologies, Geisinger can work to further enhance care for the patients at its facilities, as well as those at other health care institutions. This program helps bring our health care community together for the betterment of patients while also creating jobs at home.” As long as they keep this project away from the Customer Service Division of Geisinger and their associated fools posing as managers, this might be a very good thing.

WHO IS FRANK SCAVO?

He’s a frequent caller to WILK Radio and is well known as an organizer of taxpayer oriented events in Lulac land. A few weeks back I got an e mail from him saying he was the only candidate in the 22nd district race not in debt. Frank, that is a great feeling and I applaud your personal achievement. I have that in common with you and like I said it is a good, freeing feeling. Here’s a little bit about Frank, the lone Republican in that race to succeed Bob Mellow.
I am and Old Forge resident and love my family, God and Country. My wife Caren and I have two children that we are raising to be responsible citizens. They are Sarah, age 12 and Frankie, age 9. I am the only Conservative candidate for the state senate seat held by Robert Mellow to file with ZERO DEBT. No mortgage payment, no car payments and nor any credit card debt. I have also paid all property taxes on time to get a discount. Sure my family and I have had to say NO to our wants sometimes, but our goal was to be debt free, and today we are. I have also created wealth and family sustaining jobs at Keystone Automotive in Old Forge where I created a Ten Million dollar business. I have also fought for the taxpayer for eight years on the Old Forge School Board. My plan for our future is simple: Eliminate property taxes permanently. We also need to attract new business by cutting taxes. Businesses are our employers, allowing them to expand and in turn attracting more new business opportunities from other states, which will most importantly creates jobs for us. I will also limit state spending by passing a Taxpayer bill of rights, called TABOR, which limits spending to growth. Those are the three priorities, in order, that are the issues of "We the People". I will also eliminate per diems and wam's as the size and the costs of the legislature must be reduced. And another freedom denied to "We the People" is referendum ballot access, which I will fight for. I pledge to never cut funding for Veterans or the disabled, and to never embarrass Northeast Pennsylvania or my family name as other politicians do. I ask for you vote to fight for you on May 18Th. O’BRIEN PUSHING MAIN STREET

Meanwhile Corey O’Brien is churning along in his efforts to out Paul Kanjorski from his perch in Congress. O’Brien had a very successful event in Dunmore Thursday night and is closing in on the end of the campaign running ads and pressing the flesh.

1966

African members of the UN Security Council say that the British army should blockade Rhodesia......The
Busch Memorial Stadium opens in St Louis, Missouri...in Pennsylvania the race for Governor and Lt. Governor takes a tragic turn. Here is a news article from an Ocean City newspaper on the death of State Attorney General Walter Alessandroni, a candidate for Lt. Governor with Governor Scranton’s current Lt. Governor Raymond Shafer. Ocean City, N.J. (UPI) -- State Atty. Gen. Walter Allesendroni and his wife, Ethel, found dead in the wreckage of a twin-engine plane in western Pennsylvania late Monday, owned a summer home at this seashore resort. They had left on the ill-fated flight to Connellsville, Pa. from nearby Atlantic City Sunday afternoon. Also killed in the crash were James Staudinger of Abington, Pa., a member of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, who was picked up in Harrisburg, Pa., to accompany the attorney general on a speaking engagement, and the pilot, Mel Ladin of Collingswood, N.J.The Alesssandroni's had spent the weekend at their home at 25 W. 17th St., in the swank Lagoon section here. They had maintained the home year-round for a number of years. Alessandroni was a past commodore of the Ocean City Yacht Club and, with his son, Gene had piloted a speedboat in club races. He and his wife frequently attended the club dances. His official bio read, Walter Edwin Alessandroni (1914-1966) — also known as Walter E. Alessandroni — of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pa. Born in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa., December 27, 1914. Son of Joseph Alessandroni and Sally Alessandroni; married 1935 to Ethel Decius. Republican. Lawyer; served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II; U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, 1959-61; Pennsylvania state attorney general, 1963-66; delegate to Republican National Convention from Pennsylvania, 1964. As a candidate for Lieutenant Governor, was flying to a planned campaign speech in a twin-engine Aztec plane, in rainy and snowy weather when the plane crashed near Connellsville, Fayette County, Pa., May 8, 1966………………in Luzerne County local Republicans like county commissioners Jim Post and Bill Goss express sympathy and shock at the Alessandroni development. Long time GOP Senator T. Newell Wood characterizes Alessandroni as a future GOP political star that was extinguished way too soon……and 44 years ago today the number 1 song in America and LuLac land was "Groovy Kind of Love" by the Mindbenders.

I had a guy named Thom Shubilla hit my door he is running for democratic state committee. Its good to see one of these state committee canidates actually out their and knocking on doors. Some think they could just win by posting on websites and not getting out in the streets. This guy is the only one I am voting for because he actually is campaingning. There are others out there who want political power in the worst way and wanted to be elected so bad but just dont go out and campaign and dont do any work. Those canidates are what is wrong with politics.

Thom Shubilla hit my home as well and he seems very energetic and a breath of fresh air for the Democratic State Committee. I didnt know too much about the Democratic State Comitte but after researching the canidates who are running Thom has my vote because he is the only one who is out knocking on doors and one of the only ones who is not connected to the old guard. Vote for Thom
