MAYBE I’M AMAZED

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that more than 200 people showed up for that forum the other night at Wilkes College. That shows there is citizen interest in this election.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……at the size of this upcoming Election Day ballot. Voters should really study hard and figure out who they are going to support.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that in talking to Council candidate Edd Brominski I see that he most likely has forgotten more about county government than the people who have been studying this deal now for over a few years.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Bob Cordaro pulled a legal rabbit out of his hat and at least got his Halloween sentencing continued.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……..that up until last night, this World Series might have been remembered for the bad phone line to the Cardinal bullpen than anything else. Why not just run one of the players down to the dugout and pass the message the old fashioned way, face to face, pre Alexander Graham Bell.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that the young Republicans of Luzerne County, those on and off the reservation should know better than to explain a mini controversy to WILK’s Steve Corbett. He’ll ask the questions they should have asked themselves before they picked up the phone.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that the people at Wilkes College only had one microphone for the big Forum the other night. Wilkes has a college TV station and various auditoriums. Plus they have a Communications program. They couldn’t spare a microphone?
MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that the guy who won 4 million smackers at the Anthracite Newsstand was back the next day buying more lottery tickets. Really? Don’t tell me gambling can’t be addictive.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Rick Perry who fashions himself after Ronald Reagan (and what Republican doesn’t) decided to step away from the debates because of poor performance. We knew The Gipper and Rick Perry is no Ronald Reagan. Just what we need, another Texas Governor as President with a low IQ. George Bush’s saving grace was that he loved baseball.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski. Posed with adult film star Bibi Jones posting multiple pictures on Twitter posing. The short blond was sporting Gronkowski's Patriots jersey in the images and the tight end was shirtless in one of them. There is nothing sexier than a good looking woman wearing a football jersey. (Especially if it’s yours!) But after all the Charlie Sheen garbage earlier in the year with Bree Olson, you have to ask, “What was this guy thinking”?
MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that people are questioning the actions of the Wilkes Barre Police when a person was wielding a gun (albeit a pellet gun) and aiming it at them. My theory is the guy wanted to do one of those “cop by suicide” deals you see on Law and Order. When a guy points a gun at you and he does not desist after being told to, he gets what he gets. That said, I saw his family on TV recounting his mental health issues and I feel for them. I just wonder who is going to foot the health care bill for this guy because I’ll bet my ass he doesn’t have Blue Cross or Geisenger PPO.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that the longer I live, the more I appreciate the sport of baseball. In Game 6 of the World Series, the Cardinals were one strike away from elimination. Both teams battled back in a seesaw of leads in the game. The third baseman, David Freese, who made a crucial error redeemed himself and tied it once. Then in the 11th hit a home run to win it 10-9 and bring it to Game 7. To those who say baseball takes too much time, I say baseball is timeless in the most classical sense. On to Game 7 later tonight! And that my friends is truly amazing!

Who did Alexander Graham Bell pitch for and did he ever win a World Series Game? Did he know Grover Cleveland Alexander?

Who was the young republican. That goof Alex? I only heard him once on Sue Henry and he couldn't form a cognizant thought.
BTW what was the question?
BBTW what was the mini controversy?

That with such a great World Series going on, the Dodgers are petitioning the court pleading that the attackers, not the Dodgers, are responsible for the damage inflicted on Brian Stow a Giants Fan at a Dodgers game. And that the Dodger attorney claims Stow is probably in part responsible! Those classy McCourts are at it again. They never should have been owners in the first place! At least Charlie Comiskey was a baseball guy and Marge Shoutt liked dogs.

FIRST OFF, ALEX IS NOT A GOOF, HE JUST HAS A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION ON THIS ISSUE.
ALEX CALLED CORBETT AND MOST LIKELY WAS TRYING TO PROMOTE THE CANDIDACY OF DICK HUGHES AND LISA COPE. CORBETT ASKED HIM IF THEY WERE ENDORSED BY THE PARTY AND HE SAID YES. IF HE WAS MAKING THE CALL ON HIS OWN, HE SHOULD HAVE SAID "I'M PERSONALLY ENDORSING THESE TWO". CORBETT THEN ASKED IF THE YOUNG GOPers WERE ENDORSING STEFANIE SALAVANTIS. HE SAID HE DID NOT HAVE THAT INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO HIM. CORBETT THEN THOUGHT THAT WAS STRANGE THAT HE DID NOT HAVE THAT INFO AND THAT WHILE HUGHES AND COPE HAD THE NOD, COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY A WELL FUNDED AND VISIBLE CANDIDATE LIKE SALAVANTIS DID NOT HAVE THE ENDORSEMENT.
AFTER 5PM, THE HEAD OF THE YOUNG REPUBLICANS BOB ZARUTA CALLED AND TOLD CORBETT IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS THAT SALAVANTIS WAS ENDORSED AT A SEPTEMBER MEETING AND THAT ALEX HAD BEEN THE LONE DISSENTING VOTE. CORBETT THEN QUESTIONED WHY THERE WASN'T A PRESS RELEASE TOUTING THE FACT THAT SALAVANTIS WAS ENDORSED AND ZARUTA SAID HE THOUGHT THAT WOULD BE IMPLIED GIVEN THE HIG PROFILE OF THE SALAVANTIS EFFORT. THE CALL WAS RESOLVED WHEN CORBETT SUGGESTED A PRESS RELEASE BE SENT AND THE YOUNG GOP HEAD SAID THIS WAS AN INTERNAL DISAGREEMENT.
ALEX IS ENTITLED TO HIS OPINION. IN MY OPINION HE JUST SHOULD HAVE SAID "THIS IS MY ENDORSEMENT AND I AM A WORKING MEMBER OF THE YOUNG REPUBLICANS." BOTH YOUNG MEN ARE GOING TO BE FUTURE LEADERS IN THIS COUNTY AND IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS THIS IS JUST A BLIP ON THE RADAR. IT ALSO GAVE CORBETT ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF POLITICAL TALK BEFORE HE GOT TO OTHER SUBJECTS ON HIS ALWAYS FULL AND INTERESTING AGENDA.

Press release from Young Republicans:
PRESS RELEASE:
For additional information, contact:
Luzerne County Young Republicans
LuzerneCountyYRs@gmail.com
The Luzerne County Young Republicans are honored to announce our endorsement of Stefanie Salavantis for District Attorney.
Earlier this year Stefanie Salavantis met with our group for the first time, and we were immediately impressed with her passion and energy. She discussed our county’s continuing problems with nepotism, cronyism and corruption. She, like many of us, took the corruption scandal personally, and was embarrassed that it occurred in her hometown.
Salavantis has shown courage in challenging the current District Attorney, whose name is synonymous with political power. Despite the known challenges that lay ahead, Stefanie chose to stand up and fight for everyone on the outside of the Luzerne County political inner-circle. This courage, to stand up for what is right, regardless of the personal consequences, is refreshing, as it is rarely seen in politicians.
Salavantis’ work ethic stood out among the rest of her qualities. In addition to working full-time, Stefanie has been knocking on doors daily, speaking at events, and meeting as many people as possible. Passion like this is rare, and demonstrates her dedication to helping this county rid itself of the political powerhouse that still remains in the Courthouse.
Salavantis is a very intelligent young woman as well as a talented attorney. Her attention to detail provides our group with the utmost confidence that nothing will slip through the cracks as it has in the past.
Stefanie Salavantis is an unconnected political outsider. She stands for all of us who do not benefit from political ties and merely want justice in our court system. She is running for District Attorney to right what is wrong with our system. The Young Republicans are confident she will do just that.
For all the above reasons, and many more, the Luzerne County Young Republicans proudly endorse Stefanie Salavantis for District Attorney.

I think the President cleared it up on the air. The press release clearly shows their support of Salavantis. On a side note, I like what Zaruta said about not endorsing all republicans just because they are republicans. He actually said the group is against a straight party vote. Maybe the Republican party has a future in luzerne county.

I wasn't calling him a goof because of his opinion. It was because of his inability to communicate. The guy is after all supposed to be the communications director.

Can't it be ointed out that Salavantis only has two years of experience because she was delayed gettng in the field because she failed the Bar exam the first time. Sounds right to me, trouble passing the Bar, no experience, yep, that's DA material if ever I saw it. Yonk, this is her resume and the voters need to be aware of it.

The young man I heard on the Corbett Show should not be a Communications Director at least at this stage of his career. He was tentatice, unsure of himself,
and easily intimidated by a non intimidating Corbett. He was not dumb, just way out of his element.

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "The LuLac Edition #1813, October 28th, 2011":

Salavantis likes to say that the DA's job is mostly an administrative one and that her lack of law experience wouldn't be that big of a deal. Okay, how about her lack of administrative experience? Just read the financials in the paper, it seems like the spoiled little girl's mommy and daddy are trying to purchase her one more thing; an elected position. Who the **** would spend more than the annual salary of a position to get the job? What is their true motive? Is this just something the little Greek princess wants and daddy is trying to deliver. Whatever happened to the believe that someone should earn what they get, not simply purchase it?

Jack,

there was two Young Republicans on the radio that day...who of the two you are talking about?

2:45, Excellent Point. By the way, she said she works at her grandfather's famous Pittstson Hot Dog restsaurant, well, I've been a steady customer there for more years than I care to remember but what I do remember is that I have never seen her working there. Maybe I was out of town that day. The young lady is not being truthful about working at the family restaurant. I've asked friends who also frequent the restaurant and they agree that if she worked there, it had to be on the night shift and they don't have a night shift.

6:27pm I agree with you. I was a daily fixture there for years, never once saw her there. She is daddy's little girl; whatever she wants daddy buys. She wanted a law degree, daddy bought it for her. She wanted a law practice, daddy set her up. She wants to be DA, daddy is trying to buy it for her. Not one ad states a single qualification. And lets, not forget her reasons for defending Bonner; "because it is my job." Attorney Salaventis, you are SELF employed. That means you had a choice. She is almost as inarticulate as the young republicans communications guy Alex. If this is what is coming up in the republican party all Renita F built will completely collapse.
