The LuLac Edition #1929, February 3rd, 2012

MAYBE I’M AMAZED

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……..that two area men confessed to state police that they threw rocks, potatoes and plumbers putty at passing tractor-trailers and cars on Interstate 81 because they were bored. Police allege Robert Vincent Dalessandro Jr., 21, of Plymouth, and Samuel Gensel, 20, of Wilkes-Barre, struck multiple vehicles causing $6,859 in damages last summer. Bored? Put them to work on the road sides picking up garbage (it takes one to know one as they say) or put them in a nursing home on bed pan duty for the oldsters. Bored? With these young people not even having any curiosity about life, we as a society are doomed.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that there are more chickens than people in the world. Good thing too especially with this weekend’s feast and infusion of millions of chicken wings for Super Bowl Sunday.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that if you are advertising a product for the Super Bowl, you can’t call it The Super Bowl Sale because "Super Bowl" is trademarked. Advertisers have to call it THE BIG GAME.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……at the number of retired NFL players, superstars too that come out of hiding during Super Bowl week hawking their endorsement products.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that people are blaming the County Council for raising taxes. It is unrealistic to think that with this budget mess you can’t raise taxes. The people criticizing the Council members say they caved to pressure, what are these tax crazies doing but applying pressure to good people who did the right thing.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that callers to talk radio are complaining about a $10,000 stipend to move the new County Manager from California to Luzerne County. The guy is taking less money than the others and we need to get him here. The same loud mouths who bitch about stuff like this never, ever go to a school board meeting where taxes on home owners are really out of hand.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that the Pennsylvania Ethic Commission will not conduct a full investigation into the hiring practices of Mayor Tom Leighton. The ethics Commission put the onus on the Human Resources manager who hired the Leighton relatives more than 14 times. And of course the Mayor would never know anything about that. He’s only the Mayor. I hope the Ethics Commission in Luzerne County has a lot more balls than the wimps in Harrisburg. But don’t forget, this was the same ethics commission that were blind to those two good citizens Ciavarella and Conahan. I’m not castigating the Mayor here, he was cleared. More power to him. I just think it is amazing that the committee chose the language that they did in releasing their report. I feel sorry though for the citizens filing these reports and letters, it has to be disheartening.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that Donald Trump endorsed Mitt Romney for President. Brilliant move on the Romney camp’s part. It takes Trump out of the equation as a third party candidate and keeps a wild card like him inside the tent. I thought something was up the other night when Romney started talking about how China was ripping us off. It was a page torn from the Trump playbook.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….how defeated Newt Gingrich has been looking lately. Kind of like a prize fighter who has taken too many punches.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that businessman Tim Burns dropped out of the U.S. Senate race. This was the guy that Lackwwanna County Tea Party official Laureen Collins dropped out of her own Senate race to back. Burns might run for Congress in the 12th and Cummings might run in the 10th. Don’t these guys have it backwards? You run for the Congress first, then the Senate, right?

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that the conservative wing of the party says that want a fiscal, family oriented religious right conservative who won’t take any crap on foreign policy. All of those ingredients seem to scream Rick Santorum yet these conservatives are not gravitating to Rick but seemingly want to go down with the good ship Gingrich.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that Super Bowl 46 is upon us. The Giants need to contain Tom Brady. They also need to maintain their cool and not let the Patriots get under their skin. On the other side of the coin, Bill Belechick has had a good two weeks to study the Giants. The last 9-7 team to go to the Super Bowl was the ’79 Rams. My prediction: the team that has the ball last will win. This will be a nail biter. I think!
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Roseanne Barr is running for President of the United States under the Green Party banner. Barr said Thursday that t she's a longtime supporter of the party and looks forward to working with people who share her values. She said the two major parties aren't serving the American people. Oh boy!
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that every Super Bowl has a human element to it. The Giants Jason Pierre Paul has emerged as a big game changer. Pierre Paul’s father went blind three months before Jason was born. The man has never seen his child play football and certainly not at this level. The NFL has made special accommodations for sound and seating for the Paul family. Not that there’s a real comparison but here’s a tear jerker song from the 70s by David Geddes to close out this edition.

Yonk, I have to think that the state ethics commission looked at the Leighton situation and just shook their heads at how upset locals get over nothing. Giving a child a part time summeer job is not somthing people should get their panties into a wad over. Is it realy a big deal? Not in the scheme of things. Who the hell cares and who in the same position would not do the exact sme thing. Personally, I'm sick to death with the people who are looking for a perfect world and who look for it in politics. To the victor goes the ........... Amen to that. Just get over it already. Who really cares and what earth shaking results came from a summer job? People need to get a life.

I'm amazed that you or anyone else pays attention to WILK callers or even listens! Its a fabricated bitch session with hosts desperate for callers and never a positive word about anything! Relocating an employee is and has been standard practice forever in the real world. This guy is going to be given the "outsider" treatment by the valley from the get go. I wish the poor SOB lots of luck!

Correct on both scores, Jack! The average WILK caller is a little right of the goalposts and as noted calls again and again. None of the hosts would ever get into medium let alone major market radio (sorry Steve)and probably dont want to. Give the new guy a chance and he might accomplish somethings, but I doubt that will happen. The Valley with a Heart would be better known as the Valley with a Hard On and not without some justification. Valley of Complete Corruption is another possibility! Blow it up and start again!

Blow it up and start again.....we did and look at us now. This is a cluster f*** government and there is no relief in sight. Some said we can straighten it out in 5 years and I ask who? Who is going to organize and rewrite this mess that Haggerty screwed up? This is a much larger mess than people can even begin to understand.

Yonk wanted to know if the new ethics commission had balls or not unlike the state ethics commission. I was assuring him that, yes, it does!

A quarter million jobs and unemployment drops to 8.3%. Okay, but...

1.2 million people vanished from the labor force.

Labor force participation at a 30-year low.

Most of the jobs are part-time.

The middle class is America's truest endangered species.

Don't break out the Obama celebratory bubbly just yet..
