NOW WE’RE TALKING!

Thanks to Senator Pat Toomey, the real debate for gun legislation will at least have a debate. Toomey, a conservative Senator with a near perfect NRA rating joined with West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin today in forging out a compromise expanding background checks on firearms buyers to include gun shows and Internet sales across state lines. There was threats of a Senate filibuster by the GOP but with this deal, that appears to be fading.
This compromise is by no means a recipe for success in the gun debate. But it is a step forward toward talking and Pat Toomey showed courage, intelligence and independence in taking this stance.
Recent Facebook posts by rabid conservatives urged Toomey not to forget the Second Amendment and to protect the freedoms of America by joining his party of obstructionists in the Capitol. He did not and should be commended for at least continuing the debate. The final vote will be what it will be but at least today, there is now room for meaningful debate.

I still can't believe Toomey has taken steps to join the common sense gang......... Good job Toomey.
