The Gun. (Photo: Solon.com)

THE RIGHT, THE GOVERNMENT AND GUNS

One of the things that really floor me about the gun debate is the fact that so many on the Right have said that the Government will come after all of the guns in America if any gun measure is passed. Criminal background checks, no good. Gun Show loophole where a terrorist in a Nike Tee Shirt and a Mets hat can get a gun, horrible. The limiting of magazines that will cut down the number of shots one can take with an assault weapon, an attack on our freedoms. The Right will tell you that if these measures are passed, the government will come after all the guns.
Yet, the Right says that government is incapable of managing the Head Start program. Too many poor kids on it, too many freeloaders. The government can’t even teach the ABCs the right way.
On welfare, the right says the Government is screwing that up to. Handing out too many checks, too many food stamp cards that is allowing for the U.S. to be a nation of takers.
On the Jobless reports, the right says the government can’t get that right either and are screwing up the numbers.
Immigration reform is going to be a government nightmare too. How in the world is the government going to change immigration when it can’t keep track of the illegals, can’t find the businesses taking advantage of the immigrants and can’t come up with a comprehensive program that will cost nothing. Because as we know the Right doesn’t like to pay for anything. And then there is Health Care. The Right is telling all of us that the Affordable Health Care Act will lead to a disaster that we have never seen the likes of.
So if the government screws all of this up according to the Right, if the government is so ****ed up, tell me how in the name of God will said incompetent government is going to come after all of the guns?
I’d like the right to tell me that if the government can’t deliver mail on time, how the hell are they going to find all the concealed weapons in the United States?
Like all of their arguments against any program thought up by someone to the middle of them, the gun control argument that their precious guns are going to taken away is pure crap.

CARTWRIGHT INTRODUCES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS LEGISLATION TO REQUIRE CHILDHOOD NUTRITIONAL TRAINING

Congressman Matt Cartwright introduced the bi-partisan Nutrition Education Act with 22 original co-sponsors. This bill would require each local educational agency participating in the National School Lunch Program to include under its wellness policy a requirement for students to receive 50 hours of school nutrition education per school year. Cartwright said, “There is a childhood obesity epidemic in America. Nearly one in three children are overweight or obese. Poor nutrition is threatening our children’s health, likely making this the first generation in American history to live sicker and die younger than their parents.” Cartwright added, “Obesity and associated health problems also take a toll on the nation’s economy. Childhood obesity alone costs an estimated $14 billion annually in direct health expenses. Children covered by Medicaid account for $3 billion of these expenses.”
The Nutrition Education Act recommends that the nutrition education should not only be part of health education classes, but also incorporated into classroom instruction in subjects such as math, science, language arts, social sciences, and elective subjects. With enjoyable, developmentally-appropriate, culturally-relevant, participatory activities, such as contests, promotions, taste testing, farm visits, and school gardens, children will learn about the importance of nutritional energy balance (caloric food intake vs. physical activity). Congressman Cartwright was sworn in as a Member of the House of Representatives on January 3.

The one clear thread that unites all the mass murders currently being exploited by the Democrats is that they were committed by visibly crazy people who were unaccountably not institutionalized. But Democrats refuse to do anything about crazy people. Apparently, the views of families with relatives murdered by severely disturbed individuals are no longer relevant when it comes to institutionalizing the mentally ill.

If liberals had a decent argument for taking guns away from the law-abiding while doing nothing to prevent schizophrenics from getting guns, they'd make it. Manifestly, they don't, so they send out victims to make the argument for them, knowing no one will argue with a person whose child has just been murdered.

This allows liberals to act as if Republicans' only counter-argument to their idiotic gun control proposals is: We don't mind dead children.

The truth is the opposite. Republicans are pushing policies that will reduce gun violence; Democrats are pushing policies that will increase gun violence.

All the actual evidence -- mountains of it, in peer-reviewed studies by highly respected economists and criminologists and endlessly retested -- shows that limits on magazine capacity, background checks and assault weapons bans will accomplish nothing. Only one policy has been shown to dramatically reduce multiple public shootings: concealed-carry laws.

Unfortunately, there are no similar studies on the effect of involuntary commitment laws for the mentally deranged because no such laws exist anymore and therefore can't be tested. But we do know that the number of mass public shootings has ballooned since crazy people were thrown out of mental institutions in the 1970s.

Mass shootings don't correlate with gun ownership; they correlate with not locking up schizophrenics.

They will be most successful with LAW ABIDING citizens. Their failure will be apparent when the CRIMINALS show up in your house armed.

Have you had a talk with a cop or law enforcement professional Yonkstur?

Sounds like you're buying into the emo surrounding the question, again.

Okay, the question finally has to be asked and hopefully answered. Are you on Cartwright's payroll?

Sorry to see Trish go, but it was clear from day one that she would be heading to a major market. Good luck to a very good broadcaster. And best of luck to her successor who is also doing a great job.

In regards to the gun control legislation. Why change anythig. Just stay the status quo. Burry our heads in the sand and hope gun violence does not come to our door step. If it does just point the finger at someone else. It seems have been working so far.
Remember when you point the finger at someone you have three fingers pointing RIGHT back at ya.
I guess some day we will wake up. It just maybe to late.

When you do nothing to correct a problem the end result is "NOTHING".

"The good suffer for the bad". Always is and always will be till the end of time.Lets stop trying to fool ourselves on ignorance on this epidemic.

9:42, do you see a problemw ith any article printed in LuLac that with regard to Cartwright that did not need to be made public? How much do you hate Cartwright and love Boehner, Cantgor, Ryan and McConnell that you find problems with what our Congressman has done to date. What legislation has Barletta introduced for the well being of our youth or our seniors?

7:44 if you fail to see the value in background checks then you're brain dead! You seem to think that any effort to keep the guns out of the hands of bad people is a waste of time. What's wrong with you?

TO SUGGEST THAT THE FAMILIES ARE BEING EXPLOITED BY THE DEMOCRATS IS NOT TRUE. THIS PRESIDENT DID NOTHING ON GUN CONTROL IN HIS FIRST YEAR. SANDY HOOK PUSHED HIM AND OTHERS INTO IT. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY 29 GOP SENATORS AND 2 DEMOCRATIC SENATORS REFUSE TO TALK OR DEBATE THE ISSUE.
But Democrats refuse to do anything about crazy people. Apparently, the views of families with relatives murdered by severely disturbed individuals are no longer relevant when it comes to institutionalizing the mentally ill.
THE DEMOCRATS HAVE TO TAKE ON HOLLYWOOD ON THE VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES. I BELIEVE THAT. BUT MOST FUNDING FOR MENTAL HEALTH HAS BEEN CUT BY REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS IN BOTH RED AND BLUE STATES AND THE GOP CONTROLLED HOUSE.
Mass shootings don't correlate with gun ownership; they correlate with not locking up schizophrenics.
VERY TRUE AND THAT IS SOMETHING LEGISLATORS NEED TO WORK ON. BUT IN THE MEANTIME, GETTING A BACKGROUND CHECK ON THE AFFLICTED IS A SENSIBLE GOOD START.

AND LAW ABIDING CITIZENS WITH GUNS BOUGHT LEGALLY WILL STILL HAVE THE GUNS AND AMMO TO BLOW AWAY ANY SCUMBAG CRIMINALS THAT COME TO THEIR HOUSE TO DO HARM. YOU SEEM TO THINK THAT IF ANY PORTION OF GUN REFORM PASSES, YOU'LL LOSE YOUR GUNS. YOU WON'T. IT WILL MAKE IT HARDER FOR THEM TO GET GUNS TO INVADE YOUR HOME.
Have you had a talk with a cop or law enforcement professional Yonkstur?
YES AND THEIR BIGGEST FEAR IS GOING TO A DOMESTIC DISPUTE WHERE SOME COKED UP HUSBAND WITH AN ILLEGAL GUN IS SET AND READY TO BLOW THEM AWAY. OR SOME ANGRY PERSON WITH A GUN HE GOT WITHOUT A BACKGROUND CHECK CALLING UP A VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY AFTER SETTING A FIRE AND SHOOTING DEAD FIRST RESPONDERS. THAT NEVER HAPPENED DID IT? OH WAIT< YES IT DID IN ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.

10:29 AM The only problem w/relying on background checks, is most who know they will NOT pass a background check, are more than likely not going to try and legally buy a gun.
It is all nice, feel good legislation that will not keep weapons out of criminals hands, but try and pay lip service to the sheeple that something is being done.
Criminals don't buy guns at the local gun shop or gun show, they buy them on the streets, where more than likely, those guns were obtained illegally.
The old adage just do something to do something is fine, but call it what it is... worthless in preventing criminals from obtaining the firepower they desire.

I am intolerant of posters who pick out a phrase and try to blow it out of proportion MISSING the main point ENTIRELY.

To think that background checks are a waste of time because bad guys don't purchase guns at gun shows is absolutely off the wall wrong. Apparently you have no idea what an illegal gun sells for on the street. I have a relative who is a criminal investigator in Philly and he said street guns go from double to triple the retail price of a gun. Do bad guys and crazy guys buy guns at gun shows? Absolutely! When guns are available for sale to anyone who has the bucks to buy them, the wrong people will always be in line to make the purchase. Straw buyers are a huge problem but people such as you refuse to even acknowledge that straw buyers even exist. It has been said and I agree, if you oppose background checks then your head is on backwards.

* SIGH * ..... the democrats will indeed take all the guns if they get the chance and there are places where they have or had done so ....Washington D.C. and Chicago come to mind so yes Yonk they will if they think they can get away with it ..... and remember they don't have to ban the guns ..... they can make it so difficult and costly to own one that it has the same affect as a ban

At 4:35 PM, Blogger Aggie95 said...

Oh and 1 more thing if the democrats were truely serious about reducing gun violence they would ban themselves from owning guns and leave us God fearing law abiding Republicans the hell alone .... yes I can see the puzzled look and your thinking what the hell is he talking about * SHRUG * .... well most of the gun violence is being done in urban areas ....urban areas vote democrat ....check and see how the cities voted ..... most of the folks in these urban areas that are doing the violence are black or hispanic who .... again ..... vote democrat .... so if you want to end gun violence or pretty much all violence ban democrats from having guns .... and sharp stuff .... they have proven they don't work and play well with others

When the massacre in Newtown occurred, it received wall-to-wall coverage, as well it should have. We’d never seen anything like this before – a mentally ill gunman shooting tiny children and their teachers in an elementary school. It shocked the senses and dominated the national conversation – as well it should have.

And aside from opportunistic leftists, such as Michael Moore and Piers Morgan, the original coverage leaned toward what caused the murderer to act and how such mental illness might be addressed in the future. But just as a serious and productive conversation was beginning, the political agenda of those in the mainstream media overtook it.

This was not an opportunity to address mental illness in this country and truly head off such disasters – that’s not all that compelling a story and nobody really has the answer – but it was time to talk gun grabbing. It was time to dust off all the old measures that never worked, all the “solutions” that never could move forward under the democratic process and try to use this tragedy to accomplish them.

It’s hard to blame politicians. They can’t help themselves; they can’t let a good crisis go to waste. But we ought to be able to expect a little more from our media – something a little closer to real life than the political agenda of far-left members of Congress.

So, instead of seriously addressing what makes the Adam Lanzas of the world tick, we put a Band-Aid on cancer in pursuit of decades-old liberal causes. And the media cheerleads as if this were a useful use of leaders’ time. Shame on all of them.

You're right Aggie, and thank goodness for those gun laws in DC and Chicgo, they are two cities that are free of violent gun crimes.
As far as guns on the street in philly, of course the price is high, higher demand for illegal guns, you kind of made the posters point.
Criminal activity is one of the last bastions of supply and demand. If the demand wasn't so great, the price wouldn't be so high
