CALLING HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUTS!

The latest revelation about the NSA’s secret programs turns out to be a 29 year old government contractor who had Security Clearance. Just a few months on the job, Snowden released vital national security information to the world because he felt it wasn’t right for Americans to have that information monitored and didn’t think it was right. His education as a high school drop out and his world experience probably gave him the credentials to make the decision. This decision in effect gives the terrorists an insight into what we do. Some are calling him a hero of free speech, others an attention seeking traitor. I just think the guy is an ass and knows nothing about the real world and the job he has. Too many contractors give jobs to unqualified people who might know a keyboard but have no idea of the responsibility of the job they hold. And please, save this garbage about freedom of speech. He goes to that bastion of free speech and political dissent, Hong Kong to make his case! Try him as a spy and give him life. And if you have a kid that is currently toiling in a college and getting in debt for a 9 dollar an hour job in Wilkes Barre, tell him to bag it and go the Snowden route.

1963

This week was a big week in terms of news events for the year 1963. It began with President Kennedy delivering his American University commencement address. Dubbed “A Strategy of Peace”, the speech has been heralded as one of the most significant speeches Kennedy ever gave.
In the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy called for a saner way for the world partners to work with one another. Here are some important quotes:
"First examine our attitude towards peace itself. Too many of us think it is impossible. Too many think it is unreal. But that is a dangerous, defeatist belief. It leads to the conclusion that war is inevitable, that mankind is doomed, that we are gripped by forces we cannot control. We need not accept that view. Our problems are man made; therefore, they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings."
"For in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's futures. And we are all mortal."
"It is our hope— and the purpose of allied policies—to convince the Soviet Union that she, too, should let each nation choose its own future, so long as that choice does not interfere with the choices of others. The Communist drive to impose their political and economic system on others is the primary cause of world tension today. For there can be no doubt that, if all nations could refrain from interfering in the self-determination of others, the peace would be much more assured."
"I'm taking this opportunity, therefore, to announce two important decisions in this regard. First, Chairman Khrushchev, Prime Minister Macmillan, and I have agreed that high-level discussions will shortly begin in Moscow looking towards early agreement on a comprehensive test ban treaty. Our hope must be tempered—Our hopes must be tempered with the caution of history; but with our hopes go the hopes of all mankind. Second, to make clear our good faith and solemn convictions on this matter, I now declare that the United States does not propose to conduct nuclear tests in the atmosphere so long as other states do not do so. We will not—We will not be the first to resume."
"The United States, as the world knows, will never start a war. We do not want a war. We do not now expect a war. This generation of Americans has already had enough—more than enough—of war and hate and oppression."
A few weeks later, a Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Agreement was signed. It was a first step toward insuring that there would never be a standoff lie the Cuban Missile Crisis again.
Alabama Governor George C. Wallace stood in the door of the University of Alabama to protest against integration, before stepping aside and allowing African Americans James Hood and Vivian Malone to enroll. Wallace took a stand but then backed down when the Justice Department sent federal Marshals to allow the students in...... A few days later, President John F. Kennedy went on TV to give a historic Civil Rights Address, in which he promises a Civil Rights Bill, and asks for "the kind of equality of treatment that we would want for ourselves.” The action by Kennedy was an affirmation that he would stake his political capitol on the passing of a strong, sweeping Civil Right Bill.

Then a few hours later, on the night of June 12th, Medgar Evers was murdered in Jackson, Mississippi. Evers was a Civil Rights Field Worker in segregated Mississippi. He constantly had death threats against him and was shot in the back as he came home from a meeting. His family knew the drill, if there were shots fired, the kids hid in the bathtub until police came. Evers was only 37 and his death caused more sympathy for the Civil Rights cause than the bigots could have imagined. He died just hours after the Kennedy Civil Rights speech. The juxtaposition of those two events galvanized support for the President’s bill.

His killer, a fertilizer salesman was arrested and then acquitted by an all white male jury. Finally in 1994 the non entity was retried and convicted after Evers’ body was exhumed. Evers was buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors and 3,000 people attending. His killer died alone in prison at the age of 80 in 2001. And fifty years ago this week the number 1 song in America and LuLac land was “Surfin’ USA” by the Beach Boys.

Hey! Bambi!

What, no comment about the info that Snowden released?
No position on the NSA?
Data-mining of private citizen information?
Government eavesdropping on our phone calls?

Forget the guy, he's not important.

Thought you'd appreciate this Yonk:

The annual Trustees Report for Social Security has just been issued, and the news is that there is no news. Social Security is on its way over a fiscal cliff – what we hear every year when the report is issued.

According to this year’s report, Social Security will be insolvent in 2033 – 20 years from now - when those now 47 years old will be eligible for their full promised benefits.

But nothing gets done because the heroes representing us in Washington won’t act on anything politically tough until emergency sirens force them.

Social Security is a tax and spend program, not an investment program. Current retirees get their money from the payroll taxes paid by those currently working. As the number of workers per retiree drops, which has been the inexorable trend as Americans live longer and produce fewer babies, the only way to “save” Social Security is some combination of tax increases or benefit cuts.

Unfortunately, the only discussions that are now taking place involve trying to find clever ways to achieve these tax increases and/or benefits cuts.

I think this is a mistake. Social Security was passed in 1935, and its structure today is basically the same as it was then. Do you know any business that is operating the same way today that it was three-quarters of a century ago?

I believe that we should rebirth the idea of changing Social Security into a real retirement investment program. Let’s get off this thing about “saving the system” and start thinking about making the lives of individual Americans better.

Does anybody believe that if we were designing a national retirement program from scratch today we would come up with what we now have? No way. And if not, it is no excuse to avoid change because it is politically hard.

It was supposedly a given that after the big stock market decline during the recent recession the idea of personal retirement accounts was dead forever. But this is like deciding, after getting caught in a rainstorm, to never go outside again.

Anyone who thinks that investing in the American marketplace over a 45 year working life won’t pay off doesn’t believe in the future of the country. And if the country doesn’t have a future, where exactly will the government get money to pay Social Security benefits?

William Shipman and Peter Ferrara examined a theoretical case of a couple, earning average incomes, whose social security taxes went into a personal retirement account broadly diversified in stocks over their full working life, and who retired in 2009, the year after the stock market crashed in 2008.

Part 2

The results, published in the Wall Street Journal in 2010, showed that, even though they would have lost 37 percent in 2008, they still would have retired with $855,175, which could provide retirement payments 75 percent higher than those they would have received under Social Security.

When the idea of changing Social Security to personal retirement accounts was looked at under President G. W. Bush, naysayers (predominately lefties) pushed back, saying this was just for rich people.

But it’s actually just the opposite. Rich people already own stocks and build wealth this way.

It’s low income Americans that need the opportunity to build wealth.

According to the Pew Research Center, 55 percent of white Americans own stocks, but only 28 percent of blacks and 17 percent of Hispanics do.

Thus, as the stock market has recovered since 2009, the wealth gap has grown even greater. According to Pew, between 2009 and 2011, the mean net worth of the wealthiest 7 percent of households increased 28 percent and dropped 4 percent for the other 93 percent.

It’s time to close the door on a bankrupt, antiquated Social Security system and give every working American the opportunity to build wealth and share in the American dream.

Too smart too late Mom and Dad. Your family tree has doomed you and yours and now you encourage your kid to pursue even more risky behavior.

How about cash flowing college by using your talents in the J.O.B. market from the start?

I'm not sure what his dropping out of high school has to do with anything. There have been plenty of traitors with advanced degrees. Just a silly comment.

Just curious, what are your views about the whistle blower in the pentagon papers event during the Nixon years.

Reply to Anonymous said part 1 and 2.......

You leave out SS Disability benefits which happens to some very young people. Your plan is pie in the sky. People are unemployed through no fault of their own and are earning nothing so what about them and the disabled? Your stand is just too simplistic. The plan that should be in effect is no limit on income for contributions and as I recently read the suggestion that a means test on all who have pensions income over $200,000. That plan would protect SS forever. I guess you also approve of Paul Ryan's budget which calls for the end of Medicare..... yes, the END of Medicare within 8 years. Thankfully, you are not in a position to make the decisions. Let's force the federal government to payback with interest what they took from the fund. People just seem to ignore the raid on SS by the feds.

Good morning Students,

I am sorry that I have not been readily available as of late. However, when one is in the process of finishing a book it can be very trying on one’s time. I hope you are all doing well and have at least showed some moderation in your usage of alcohol and various illegal substances.
The work of this classroom moves forward………
Students, I must commend Mr. Yonki on his paper with regard to this ingrate/traitor who revealed national security secrets. This twerp’s resume’ does not surprise me. Most high school dropouts tend to be law breakers, but as for this “wizard” I can say he’s taken it a bit too far. Perhaps he would have done a bit less harm if he had stuck to the behavior of the rest of his ilk and concentrated on Mini Marts and cab drivers????
Instead, we now have this idiot holding us hostage via a secret location in Hong Kong. Threatening to release more information which will only enable our enemies and endanger our intelligence officers ( I hope he’s proud).
And I must confess to being somewhat disappointed in certain members of the GOP who are defending this clown. Please gentlemen, do NOT be hypocrites, as you know quite well that if this same scenario occurred under the last Administration you would want this young slug hanged. Your humble professor is NOT a hypocrite.
I will let you in on a little secret (pun intended), I want the Administration to assemble a team of Special Forces Ops sent to Hong Kong to collect this loser. Return him to the States and have him brought before a military tribunal. Treason is nothing short of a capital offense and this sewage is a traitor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9/11 changed the world…..and it is necessary to perform clandestine operations in order for our way of life to survive. We can all live in a Michael Moore/Kumbayah world if we want to. However, the price of such an existence would be to one day wake up in a world of tyranny. So, yes, I applaud the President for continuing the program begun under the Bush Administration. This does not, however mean that in any way I am supportive of the President whereas the other scandals are concerned, in particular the IRA debacle. Investigations are underway and quite necessary. In the end the truth will come out.

Yet, in the end , I must side with the President on this most important issue of national security. Remember, show a terrorist some force and he’ll show you fear. Give him a flower and he will give you the last moments your life.

Hang the young ingrate traitor!!!!!!!

Something to think about this morning……..
Class Dismissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the above story has any truth to it, the "high school dropout" may turn out to be a true American hero, as it was his revelations that may have exposed more vendetta actions from President Obama

Professor, on behalf of all those who find you to be obnoxious and overbearing, I want to personally thank you for not being readily available. I sure would like to review the funny book you are so involved in. Please go back to what you were doing and offer us even less of your BS.

I don't always agree with Prof. Cleaver, but this jerk is selling our classified info to CHINA!!!

OH, but since he's anti-Obama, he's a hero...yup, a real hero!!!

"since he's anti-Obama"

No where is THAT stated - did you just make it up? Or is it easier to accept pretending he is anti-obama?

I gotta agree with 8:30 - this is part of a bigger issue.

Hey 9:45

You give a "nah-nah, poo- poo" rebuttal that is short on support. So HOW would you provide disability and NOT break the bank?

You too 10:21 - don't come to a battle of wits unarmed. Your philosophy is as hole-filled as the East End streets. Not everyone agrees with the Prof but you gotta admit for the most part he is consistent.

-Tired of shallow.

Anon: 553: By his own admission the TRAITOR did NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA in '08 or '12.

He is a Libertarian, by his OWN ADMISSION.

You know, The wacko Rand and Ronny Paul Tea Party Crowd.

But, no, he "loves" Barry O.

Dont make me laugh.
