Our "Write On Wednesday" logo.

WRITE ON WEDNESDAY

TUMS WON'T CURE THIS GAS!!!!

Our "Write On Wednesday" this week is a mix of words and a photo courtesy of the Wilkes Barre Taxpayers Association.
Please be advised that The Wilkes Barre City Taxpayers Association has rented a billboard on business rt 309 to display a photo of our Mayor (Thomas Leighton) "Taking" gas from the DPW pump, and putting it into his personal vehicle, on a weekend, in his undershirt.
The purpose of our association: To prevent, misuse, misappropriation, mishandling of taxpayers’ funds, and to create an overall awareness of taxation. We the taxpayers WILL NOT tolerate any public official misusing public funds/assets and will use every tool at our disposal to call attention to this type of waste.
Sincerely,
Frank Sorick
President Wilkes Barre City Taxpayers Association

I'm wondering if the mayor takes gas in lieu of mileage? Is receiving gas part of the benefits of being mayor? I'm not approving nor disapproving the gas use, I'm asking two serious questions. I know personally that the mayor has used his own vehicle for city business but I don't know if he uses it all the time. If he is getting free gas in lieu of reimbursement then he is on the losing side. The wear and tear of local driving is huge on any vehicle but especially on a SUV. If the tax payer's association looked into the legality of the gas usage and it is not allowable then they should have done something about it. If it is allowable then shame on them for creating more bad PR for the city. Why is it that people don't understand the damage they do to our community and county with all this negative talk? If you were a CEO, would you even consider moving your company to this area? People had better take a look at Detroit and then ask if bad publicity is worth it. Thanks to Scott Cannon, we are able to watch the County Council meetings either live or later as a video. After watching this week's meeting I am convinced that we have a terrible form of government. They spend more time on nonsense than anything else. The two Urban's voted against WB receiving any flood money. The head of the LCTA spoke about public allegations made by Brominski and when he asked Brominski for information as to how he got such information, Brominski would not even acknowledge he was being spoken to and the comment was made from the Chair that this is public input time and not question time. Are they kidding me? During the public session a defamed public official cannot ask his accuser a question? I looked into the credentials of Mr Strelish as swell as his job performance and both are excellent. His father and his uncles owned and operated Strelish Trucking and Stanley was the company manager. The job he has done upgrading the LCTA is outstanding yet Brominski throws accusations and then refuses to defend his charges. Brominski wants copies of LCTA meetings and a copy of Strelish's credentials but he won't answer questions? Maybe Brominski should comment on his actions while a county commissioner. He hired friends in the Assessor's office and other departments and ended up taking the fifth in court but he is OK with that. This is a typical situation where do as I say, not as I do is very appropriate. I'm sick to death with this Council. Urban's and Brominski voted against a parking ordinance at the court house even after the Sheriff explained that parking is being abused and security has no legal method of fighting it. He mentioned that it is possible that college students could park in the county facility and go to school and Urban said it was ridiculous to think a Wilkes student would park there and walk 7 blocks to school. I guess Urban does not know Kings college is right acfros the street. Idiots all! Oh, I forgot to mention that Councilman Williams drilled Andy Reilly over and over about things in the flood grant that he absolutely knows due to his own profession. In my mind, he was trying to embarrass Reilly or just trying to make himself look knowledgeable. Reilly did an outstanding job of showing his expertise and ability to do his job. So once again, I will say......... IDIOTS ALL! Thank you Mr Cannon for making this video possible and available and thank you to the organization that sponsers it.

I don't understand why anyone would want to be mayor of WB or Scranton. Leighton or Doherty don't seem to have done much good for either city. I wonder if its possible. Luzerne County is crime riddled and getting worse and Scranton is pretty much financially in the dumper and punishing anyone who still lives in the city with crippling taxes and cut backs on city services. Corruption has always been a problem, but if memory serves things at least used to get accomplished. I'm old enough to remember when both cities were prosperous and great places to live
and raise a family. Its a sad commentary and I sincerely wish I could put a positive spin on things around here, but it just seems to be getting worse.

Maybe Taxpayers would have more money if they stop wasting it on old ho-hum news. The DA is in the Mayors pocket ....good luck. LOL
