MEDIA MATTERS

THE SAN FRANCISCO FIASCO

You most likely heard about the media fiasco on San Francisco’s KTVU about that Asian flight a week ago. The long and short of it was someone gave the news team the names of the pilot and crew. That never happens. Then the brain trusts said they confirmed it with the NTSB. Turns out an intern did a Frank Pantangelo from “Godfather 2” and said, “Yeah, sure”. This points to how bad even major local media is these days. In a city with a significant Asian population, no on checked? Take a look at this.

CLOSER TO HOME

A suspect in a fatal hit and run last summer got a trial date for March of 2014. But hearing the story on TV all you got was that the prosecution was trying to revoke his bail. Nowhere did the fill in anchor tell us that his trial was moved many months down the road causing the family more anguish. But you had to find that out in the newspaper the next. A guy’s trial being delayed so long should be big news right? Love my friends at the Wilkes Barre TV station...but c'mon.

THE WOMEN OF FOX NEWS

Got this from dear friend the other day and maybe you’ve seen it, maybe not. But it is thought provoking and hilarious.

CNN has become the Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman Channel. It appears they are going to stay with it until we have riots and other forms of civil disturbances in this country. All media should lay off and not stir things up for now. I dont agree with the verdict.
It appears to me manslaughter would have been a fair verdict, but its done and that's Florida Law. Zimmermans sentence is to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder in fear of a George Zimmerman type with a gun and a score to settle. Perhaps that's justice in a way. Personally I have no plans to visit the sunshine state although I had a great time on the Gulf Coast on more than one occasion. All in all a tragedy for all involved.

That newsscast about the plane piolots is absolutely unbelievable. When the woman read the names, did she not hear what she was saying and see what she was seeing? Some Thing Wrong spelled so it requies a little though but when spoken? How about We Too Low or Holy F#@k..... give me a break, that broad should be on the next bus to Smallville.

Good Morning Students,

I hope you are all dealing as well as you can with this intense heat wave we are experiencing. Please be certain to abstain from your usual six pack or bottle of Jim Beam during these next few days. Alcohol is a DE hydrant; water shall maintain your bodies and I suggest that you drink plenty of it. And some people say I have no compassion for ingrates ( you may laugh).

The work of this classroom goes forward………

Students, I enjoyed Mr. Yonki’s paper on the debacle at station KTVU. I had seen the video of this woman reading these names and to be blatantly honest it came off to me as a great stain on the broadcast news industry but a feather in the cap of some jokester. I must admit that the names were funny and there is but no question that the news director of this station is the product of a poor education. This story is a double edged sword in that those who are PC sensitive will be offended by the use of these names and those who believe in education (like myself) are offended that it was even allowed to occur.
Nothing in broadcast and legitimate print journalism should get to the public before fact checking via a chain of command. This debacle managed to go through several eyes and ears without detection. I am not surprised. Now, I am no fan of modern day comedies. My tastes lie more towards The Marx Brothers or Jack Benny for good comedic laughter. Still I must admit to viewing the film Anchorman several years back and I found it to be hilarious. For the Wil Ferrell comedy not only carried a message of dumb laughter but also a message of how dumb so many in broadcast news actually are. An anchorman/woman is merely a robot reading from a teleprompter who has no idea what he/she is saying. A machine in the cog of news organizations that are now basically entertainment conglomerates.
I recall “real” journalists and anchors who had vast journalistic backgrounds. Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite (despite our differing views politically), David Brinkley and the great Frank Reynolds of ABC. These were real intellects who RESEARCHED the stories of which they were to report that evening to the nation. Their idea of preparation was to be certain all of the facts were checked, all of the t’s were crossed and the i’s dotted.
Today’s anchorman/woman’s idea of preparation is to show up an hour early before broadcast time to have his/her hair done, makeup properly applied and wardrobe checked for proper lighting. My dear God, what a shame. I would match my historic wits with a Brian Williams or Dianne Sawyer (and whoever is doing the news on CBS this week) any day of the week. And I would make mincemeat out of them.
You can take any slug actor and dress him up in a doctor’s smock and have him recite lines pertaining to brain surgery. Yet, if you ever truly needed this ingrate to treat you medically you would have a snowballs chance in hell. Such is it with our anchor persons today. Nothing but empty suits and dresses, pretending to be the likes of Murrow, Brinkley and Reynolds.
So, next time you watch your fav local or national anchor ask yourself this…why are they all handsome/beautiful physically? Because it makes them acceptable to today’s Kardashian worshipping dumbed down populace. In fact, there are very few un-attractive personalities on broadcast news. Think about it. CNN has one woman (whom I do disagree with but deeply respect intellectually) but I will not mention her name as I will be accused of hurling an insult as to her lack of physical beauty. I am sure in college she shied away from dates and did her RESEARCH. Unlike the rest of her brethren who are the product of today’s modern liberal educational “I am special” system.
And we wonder why we are going down the tubes?????
Something to think about this morning……
Class Dismissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pete, I wasn't at the trial and didn't hear all that the jury heard. It took them 16 hours to make their decision and during that time, they did consider manslaughteer. I don't agrede with the way the situation began but the end result was a tragedy and I do agree with the verdict based on what little I heard.

Dave, regardless to which news network one listens to you hear what you want to hear. Lady justice as they say is "blind". This maybe a precursor to what is to come in future cases like this one. I would hope judges of future cases take heart and read deep into what transpired here.
