MESSAGE FROM ED BROMINSKI

Former County Commissioner and incumbent County Council member Edd Brominski sent an e mail regarding his candidacy for re-election. Brominski has been attending many events throughout the county and sent this along regarding his candidacy.
Dear Friends;
I am letting you know that I am a candidate for reelection this May 19th for county council.
Even though I have not been successful in my efforts to make serious changes in our county government, I am asking you to support me in my re election for the following reason. I am going to recommit myself to attempting once again to bring new revenues into the county by some previous ideas I had presented and some new ones I have developed.
First I am going to make an all out effort to have the Levee Fees reduced so that everyone protected by the Levee pays their fair share. We have facilities now that are worth millions of dollars paying the same as those of us who have property worth in the $100,000 range. I have begun a dialogue with the Flood Protection Authority to begin a study of how to reduce the costs to our seniors especially.
Secondly: I have communicated with the Governor to postpone the transfer of Moon Lake to the State in order to give us a chance to market the park wood reserves. The woods , if selectively harvested, and under good stewardship, could yield in excess of $200,000 per year in hard wood. That would be achieved by harvesting no more than 50 acres per year. There are at least 500 acres at Moon Lake, therefore it could be a yearly work and income item for many, many years. I would also like to do more research on making Moon Lake a Wounded Warrior year round retreat. This can be done by seeking a Federal grant to start the project. I have received cursory information that we could possibly get in excess of $50,000,000 to fund the project. The result of this would benefit the county enormously in tourist dollars.
Third: I am in the process of contacting a capital venture entity in order to begin to lure “Money” People and Businesses to the valley to provide good paying jobs, not the $8 range.
Fourth: I proposed a county NAMED only bank which would be run by banking professionals, who could make low interest loans to Valley Communities and the interest collected would be placed in the county General Fund and not in the pockets of investors. Presently the idea is being seriously explored in Reading, Philadelphia, Pittsburg and Vermont. It is extremely successful in N. Dakota.
I have also proposed that the State take over maintenance of all county roads as it does in 64 other counties. That would free up almost $1,000,000 which could be applied to enhancing our 911 center to assure we receive proper service 24/7/365 days, and do not have errors as, sadly, we experience of late.
Lastly, I never voted for any tax increases( although Mr. McGinley did including stopping the Homestead consideration to home owners), and I would like to seriously explore the possibility of re establishing the Homestead Provisions. Many of our seniors were financially hurt by the removal of the Homestead, and it was arbitrary in that only 87,000 household had their taxes increased when the Act was eliminated, and the other 87,000 rentals and business did not chip in to pay the bills.
We can also sue JP MORGAN Co. for poor direction when we took loans out in the late ‘80s and I would like to pursue that as we could realize close to $17,000,000 in pay back.
There are other issues I would like to pursue, these are but a few.
If you feel I have tried and deserve to try again to save our county, I humbly ask for your help and that of your friends and relatives.

BARLETTA ON THE MEND

Congressman Lou Barletta, has undergone a successful cardiac catheterization at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in order to clear a blocked artery near his heart. Barletta underwent the procedure on Monday, May 11, 2015 and is expected to return home to Hazleton. The Congressman expects to return to Washington, DC on Monday, May 18th.
Barletta’s Communications Director, Tim Murtaugh, issued the following statement:
“Congressman Barletta is awake and recovering well and is already regularly communicating with his office in Washington. His doctors expect a full recovery and a return to his normal work schedule next week. They have given him a clean bill of health and say his heart is better than ever.
“Congressman Barletta had experienced some shortness of breath in recent days, which prompted him to seek a checkup. Doctors discovered a blocked artery which required a stent to repair it.
“Congressman Barletta is grateful to the medical team at the University of Pennsylvania and thanks them for their excellent care. He also thanks his doctors in Hazleton, and also the medical staff at the Capitol in Washington. Congressman Barletta also wants this to be a reminder to the people of the 11th District to pay attention to warning signs and have regular medical checkups.”
