ARE THERE GROWN UPS IN THE WHITE HOUSE?
(Photo: Washington Post)
The first week of the Donald Trump Presidency is now in the books. For many Americans it has been just what they wanted from their candidate. They might not fully realize the ramifications of all those actions but you have to say no grass was growing under this President’s wing tips this week. Plus bringing in Vice President Mike Pence at every juncture it seems has at least told me that Trump will not be shutting out his Vice President any time soon nor will be threatened by him politically.
However the vexing thing for me is the appearance that the White House is being run like the campaign. On the fly, at the last minute, with truth being whatever they want it be and a certain tone deafness that is evident.
Plus there seems to be no sense of history or frame of reference. It’s almost like American History began on January 20th, 2017 when Trump took office. For many Americans that’s just fine and dandy. A majority of young people have to clue as to who their political leaders were except for the occasional TV sound bite via Hollywood. Plus Civics has pretty much gone by the wayside in most schools.
I’m at a loss to explain how the Refugee ban was signed on holocaust remembrance day. I have heard that Jared Kushner is “so great and smart”, how the Hell did something like that get by an Orthodox Jew?

SPEAKING OF THE REFUGEE BAN….
(Photo: AP)
How about those instant protests that took place today at JFK Airport. Thousands were there because of that ban. While it was imposed, many were in flight and some detained. The demonstrations began early Saturday at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport where, hours earlier, two Iraqis were detained due to the Muslim ban, even though they both had U.S. visas. One of the detainees, Hameed Khalid Darweesh, a 53-year-old man who worked for the U.S. military during the Iraq War, was released on Saturday afternoon. See this broad brush sweeps up the people who were our allies during Iraq and who put their lives on the line but it seems the President never even considered that.
Protestors also gathered at Washington Dulles International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and San Francisco International Airport, where several people are also being detained. A demonstration at Los Angeles International Airport also happened.
Meanwhile Cab drivers in New York are furious. The 19,000 member organization came out against Trump’s ban saying "As an organization whose membership is largely Muslim, a workforce that's almost universally immigrant, and a working-class movement that is rooted in the defense of the oppressed, we say no to this inhumane and unconstitutional ban." That statement came from The New York Taxi Workers Alliance which along with other groups mobilized on Social Media.
As more and more react to the strongman tactics of this administration, look for Social Media to be a force.
Here’s what’s different about these protests. It is not about people who are being victimized the first few days out. These people on their way in are NOT terrorists but families who did everything by the book and looking to unite. Most Americans who are not dumb asses will understand that.

HOWEVER, THERE’S ALWAYS AN EXCEPTION
Pennsylvania Idiot Jerry Zimmer (Photo: CNN)

CNN Friday evening gave it’s weekend guy Michael Smerconish a prime time shot at 9PM reviewing Trump’s first week in office. His show was going to be a recap and his first segment featured focus group members that he interviewed in April of 2016 before the Presidential primary in Pennsylvania. He brought back three of them on Friday night. They were Jimmy Finn from Harrisburg and Jerry and Mary Lou Zimmer also from the Keystone State.
Mary Lou was the one in April who told America that she wanted to say “Merry Christmas” again. At first I thought she was flummoxed for an answer but then realized how stupid and insipid her comments were. No one ever stopped anyone from saying ANYTHING in America. At the time I thought this woman was scared but now realize she is just stupid.
Her husband Jerry was another matter. Smerconish asked the two how they’d grade Trump as President. Mary Lou said “An A”. Her husband said, “An A minus”. When Smerconish asked him why, he said that Hillary Clinton was still walking around and not in jail. Then he said that Bill Clinton was still (either “whoring or hoarding” not sure which because he spoke like an ignorant hillbilly) and stealing money from the Clinton Foundation. He has no proof of either but yet he vomited them on national television.
This was the most breathtaking exhibition of ignorance that I have seen in my "54 years of paying attention" to paraphrase the host. A few thoughts here,
1. These three supporters prove James Carville's theory of Pennsylvania, Philly and Pittsburgh and Alabama in the middle.
2. It is one thing to be ignorant, it is another thing to not want to do anything about it. But it is an entirely different animal to be thoroughly proud of it.
3. The woman was the same person who said in April Trump was going to let her say "Merry Christmas" again. Uh no one ever stopped her or anyone else from saying that! I am not a guy in a bubble, I am not someone who shuts out other's opinions if they have a valid argument or facts to base them on. These supporters are poor souls that were like the country rubes suckered by the city slicker. At first I was angry (the HRC crack by Jerry was bullyish, then I felt ashamed they breath the same air I do and then those feelings morphed into hoping and praying SNL saw it. No skit, no cast members, no set, just rerun this video tape and call it, "The Bad, The Ignorant and the Proud!"

I’m told by some that Jerry and Mary Lou Zimmer need to be heard and understood. Their vote for Trump had everything to do with sexism, meanness and ignorance which they displayed proudly on Friday night. I heard their foolishness but don’t need or care to understand Jerry who said that “I felt patriotic for the first time in eight years” when Trump took office. Evidently Jerry didn’t like the color of patriotism in his sorry ass Pennsylvania America before January 20th, 2017. And we're worried about immigrants!

OTHER COMMENTS

I cannot believe how stupid those people are. No education or facts would change their minds. Sorry they are from Pennsylvania. So embarrassing!! I am a teacher/ professor and I want to sit them down and share some facts for hours on end. My middle school kids were much more knowledgeable. I can't get over it!!!
I find people who hated Obama....did so because they could never accept an African American as their President. (They will never admit this because they won't accept it). If they fully understood the state of the economy and the disastrous mess...Bush-Cheney (2 white men) left Obama on day one, they could realize the impressive job he did in his 2 terms. He was not purfect but he was careful, cautious and cerebral. Obama left Trump in much better shape than he inherited. Unfortunately these three are not capable or care enough to invest the time to research the truth. It's easier for them to fall for the tough talk and by into fake news. Sad for this country....but remember, only 27% of eligible voters chose the Atlantic City failure. They are in the minority.....it's the system and the election process that needs overhauled. Americans bigotry elected Trump. Now they are proud to be Americans....my guess is they were proud even when their President lied and invaded The wrong country....resulting in the death of 5,000 US troops, creating chaos in the Middle East. Cheney said it will be over in 30 days....they couldn't finish the job after 6 years and walked away. Electing competent, intelligent Presidents should be taken seriously. It appears a mentally challenged egomaniac who does not mean what he says or says what he means can easily fool this minority of voters. It's all about EDUCATION.....and not buying the degree either!
What the heck was the point of having these fact-denying, delusional Trump supporters on? We all know how the vast majority of Trump voters truly feel and we didn't need to see them, yet again on TV. All this show did was further promote and normalize the insane ignorance of a large portion of Americans. Thanks for continuing to give these "Christian Patriots" a platform to spread their hatred and willful ignorance. These irresponsible, frivolous programs and reporting are part of the problem in the U.S., and how we ended up with Trump in the WH.

Does that include Steve Corbett? Stevie hated Obama because he trumped Hillary that he tried to make an issue of the President being a former smoker.

Not everyone who disliked the President did so because of racism, some simply did not like his policies or his visions for an expanded socialization of the United States.

Making it always about race, shows the ignorance of those making the argument.

Dave, I saw that program and my heavens what a horrible representation for Pennsylvania.
As someone who was born here, left and came back I saw my share of ignorance but I chalked it up to lack of social skills, education and poverty.
These three jerks have had more opportunities it seems and are a disgrace.

My God, at first I thought Smerconish who is a climber, let's face it the guy wants to be on the network full time picked these people for ratings pop.
But then I saw the look of disbelief on his face.
All three are representations of the people who bought what the fascist from New York was selling hook line and sinker.
They said they'd pay for the wall?
Yeah but not if it comes out of their beer money!
I don't wish ill on anyone but I'd laugh my ass off if D.T. slices their SS bennies!

Making it always about race, shows the ignorance of those making the argument.

That's ALL they got.

Here are some other example:

1) "Dressing up as a giant vagina in public" -- The best way to preserve the dignity of women.

2) “Nazi” – Germans who attempted to take over the world during WWII and members of the American Nazi Party. Oh, and Donald Trump….And Mitt Romney, too. George W. Bush? Of course! Definitely all the Tea Party members and the people who voted for Trump. Conservatives in general? Sure. Come to think of it, pretty much every American who doesn’t agree with any part of the liberal agenda.

3) “Fetus” – A life-sucking parasite with no soul that feeds off the life of a woman and should be destroyed via abortion before you have a party celebrating its demise, unless you want the fetus, in which case it’s a sweet, loving baby.

4) “Corporate Welfare” – Something that’s horrible and should never happen unless it involves Planned Parenthood, PBS or NPR.

5) “Fake News” – News from non-liberal sources which are, by definition, fake because they make you stick your hands in your ears and yell, “La-La-La, I don’t want to hear from conservatives, la-la-la!”

6) “Stolen Election” – Relatively close elections that Republicans must have won with the help of Vladimir Putin, Jeb Bush or the Koch brothers.

7) “Homophobes” – Christians who believe in the almost universally agreed upon standards of male/female marriage that existed for thousands of years until liberals decided that the foundation of our civilization isn’t trendy enough.

8) “Xenophobe” – Americans who believe we should put our country’s interests ahead of other nations like Mexico, Iran and France.

9) “Diversity” – A group of liberals who agree on every single issue, but also happen to be gay, black, female, Hispanic or transsexual.

10) “Investment” – Wasting billions of dollars on useless government programs and giveaways that produce nothing of value.

11) “White Privilege” – The special superpowers gifted to white people that insure that there will never be a black President and all white people will always be wealthy and successful without having to work for it.

12) “The constitution is a living, breathing document.” – If there are enough liberals on a court, they can ignore the law and override democracy to implement a left-wing agenda.

13) “Patriotism” – Hatefully complaining about every real or imaginary fault of America while unfavorably comparing our country to places like Cuba and China.

14) “Violent rhetoric” – Words like “crossfire,” “job killing,” “crosshairs,” and “targeted” when used by Republicans.

15) “Detroit” – An extremely liberal city in a liberal state that must have been run into the ground and bankrupted by Republicans despite the fact that it hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1962.

16) “Radical Islam” – Words you’re not supposed to say because it may make people who are trying to kill us in the name of their religion mad.

17) “Choice” – A wonderful thing when it comes to killing babies, but awful when it’s applied to guns, schools, opting out of Social security or having less government in your life.

18) “Rape Culture” – When men want to have sex with women and worse yet, don’t bother to use consent forms for everything from hand holding to dirty sex on the hood of a car.

19) “Vagina hats” – What you wear to let everyone know you’re serious people.

20) “Love Trumps Hate” – Screaming obscenities, smashing windows and assaulting people to show that you’re loving and they’re hateful.

What our blogster Left out:

According to the draft copy of Trump's executive order, the countries whose citizens are barred entirely from entering the United States is based on a bill that Obama signed into law in December 2015.

Obama signed the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act as part of an omnibus spending bill. The legislation restricted access to the Visa Waiver Program, which allows citizens from 38 countries who are visiting the United States for less than 90 days to enter without a visa.

Though outside groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and NIAC Action — the sister organization of the National Iranian American Council — opposed the act, the bipartisan bill passed through Congress with little pushback.

At the initial signing of the restrictions, foreigners who would normally be deemed eligible for a visa waiver were denied if they had visited Iran, Syria, Sudan or Iraq in the past five years or held dual citizenship from one of those countries.

In February 2016, the Obama administration added Libya, Somali and Yemen to the list of countries one could not have visited — but allowed dual citizens of those countries who had not traveled there access to the Visa Waiver Program. Dual citizens of Syria, Sudan, Iraq and Iran are still ineligible, however.

So, in a nutshell, Obama restricted visa waivers for those seven Muslim-majority countries — Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen — and now, Trump is looking to bar immigration and visitors from the same list of countries.

Yet, I don’t remember the Left freaking out over this. I certainly don’t remember them going indiscriminately insane when the Obama White House stopped processing Iraqi visas for six months when—surprise! —Al-Qaeda operatives feigned refugee status to get relocated to Bowling Green, Kentucky. And yes, some of the applicants worked as intelligence assets and interpreters for the U.S. military, according to ABC News. But remember, that was when a Democrat was in the Oval Office, so it was okay back then.

Sign the damn ban as soon as possible. You are hung up on optics while the danger continues. Trump said he would do this kind of stuff so WHY THE @#*& ARE YOU SO SURPRISED WHEN THE MAN KEEPS HIS PROMISE.

You lauded Obama when he did.

Oh, that's right you are part of the media that just doesn't like our president and will do anything to obstruct him. Know what? It's fun watching you and your ilk twist and turn as he does what he said he would.

How does Yonki perpetuate the "Deplorable" slip that cost the Dems so many seats?
Here ya go: "All this show did was further promote and normalize the insane ignorance of a large portion of Americans."

We are insanely ignorant because we don't agree with his obvious superior intellect and must be told what to believe and how to feel.

'nuff said. True colors emerge.

BTW: The Apollo One post made me curious and I read a lot about it last night.
It stuck me how journalists are still walking around insisting the moon landing was filmed on a soundstage.

The Supreme Court upholds or strikes down laws last I heard. Give me an example of a liberal agenda.

I find it rich that you guys are blaming Obama!!!
You are correct but there are two points to consider:
1. Trump left our Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Is it because he has business interests there? I mean he has ripped apart everything Obama did and now thinks this is a good thing all of a sudden? Why the hell didn't he reference it in his statement. I'll tell you.
BECAUSE HE DIDN'T KNOW.
2. There were no protests under President Obama because he acted and comported himself like a grown up.
No person who was vetted since 2003 was told to go back home! This was in Allentown when their families had a house ready for them or when an interpreter from Iraq was detained?
No one PREPARED because the Atlantic City Failure and his staff never vetted their own God damn edict!

Except for the woman who came in on a visa for San Bernadino, every single blasted terrorism attack was perpetrated by a home grown, U.S. citizen.
There is danger in inflaming those people here, born here harboring a grudge.
How do we catch them?

Dave,
Corbett often bad mouths others, but once on the phone or in studio he puts on the nice guy act, especially when there is no way his guest will have ever heard him, or heard of him.
Corbett was mouth a blazing against Obama, and hatred is an apt description of how he came off against Candidate Obama and the President Obama. He even endorsed McCain and Palin.
As far as race being an issue, never said it wasn't, simply said it wasn't always the issue.
I disagree with Trump, is it because he is white, wealthy, an asshole, or, simply because I don't agree with him?

Hey everybody has a bias bug you try to put yourselves in the shoes of those people.
I'll admit I'm working on my bias against southern white men who are still fighting the Civil War.
Today a guy was interviewed from upstate New York and he said this "was a Christian nation". When asked if and when Islams were included in that, he said, "when all that damn political correctness started under Obama".
Am I bigoted against people like that?
Oh yeah.
Will I hide it?
Never.

So? I would have voted for McCain if he had not picked Palin. I was not a fan of Obama but when he became President, I gave him a chance.
Because........wait for it, while less experienced than Clinton and McCain he was gracious toward both and well acted like an adult.

Three months ago, Candidate Trump promised that on Day One of his presidency he would, if elected, "suspend immigration from terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur." President Trump didn't get around to that until Day Seven, which means he was a week late. Yet everyone is acting as if this all came out of the blue.

Trump's actions should not have come as a surprise to anyone who was paying even the slightest attention to the presidential campaign.

What Trump has done is not particularly unusual, let alone extreme.

What's extreme isn't what Trump did, it's the entirely out-of-proportion reaction from his political opponents, the press, and many weak-kneed Republicans.

This has, unfortunately, been the pattern since Trump took the oath of office. All the actions Trump has taken so far are ones he promised months ago to tackle immediately, yet they are all treated as shocking developments.

It is hard to see how Trumps' critics are helping their cause when they react to everything Trump does as if it were a world-ending catastrophe.
