THE CASE OF MATT GAETZ

It is delicious to me that Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz is in trouble because of a sex scandal. It is brewing.

An ongoing Justice Department investigation is looking into whether Gaetz, 38, had sex with a 17-year-old girl and provided her with anything of value in return. Federal child sex trafficking law prohibits providing anything of value to someone under the age of 18 in exchange for sex.

The Times was shown the records of payments made by Gaetz to a woman on two mobile apps, the paper reported Thursday, but the documented sexual encounters at Florida hotels extended to multiple women who, according to the Times, told friends that they were paid for their services.

This self-righteous Republican had been on Joe Biden’s case for everything. He talked about the immorality of the Democrats. But like all Trumpanzees, ACCUSATION IS CONFESSION. (aol news, LuLac archives)

BASEBALL SAYS NO TO GEORGIA

Major League Baseball pulled the 2021 All-Star Game from the state of Georgia and the Atlanta Braves on Friday afternoon, a direct response to Georgia’s controversial new voting law.

It’s a bold statement of purpose. It will surely warm the hearts of many outside the state who wish to stick it to the GOP legislators who pushed the law through. It will generate tweets of celebration, admiration and self-congratulation.

Baseball took   stand. It’s time for Coke to be next in line to tell the backward, scared little hillbilly Republicans that they need to put their big boy pants on and act like Americans instead of sore losers.(aol news, LuLac)

REPUBLICANS TRUMPET ELEMENTS OF COVID-19 RELIEF BILL THEY VOTED AGAINST

Congressional Republicans are walking a tightrope between promoting parts of President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion economic relief package that are popular with their voters — while also bashing the overall law as a costly boondoggle.

And although the lawmakers say there's nothing hypocritical about backing some provisions of a bill they voted against, Democrats are quick to accuse them of wanting to have it both ways.

"Happy to announce that NC-11 was awarded grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services," Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., tweeted Tuesday, pointing to millions of dollars that went to health care providers in his district. "Proud to see tax-payer dollars returned to NC-11."

The law, which got no Republican votes in the House or the Senate, has the support of about a quarter of self-identified Republicans, and it enjoys more than 2-to-1 approval from Americans overall, according to a recent Economist/YouGov poll.

Cawthorn, 25, who counts himself among the party's more Trumpian wing, voted against the American Rescue Plan, which provided the funding he promoted.

"Come'on man," Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison tweeted. "@RepCawthorn is trying to take credit for the grants HE VOTED AGAINST. Republicans have no shame."

Micah Bock, a spokesperson for Cawthorn, said that Cawthorn "firmly believes that the American Rescue Plan does more harm than good" and that Cawthorn "uses his official Twitter account to post information relevant to his constituents in NC-11."

"Oftentimes this means providing relevant federal information on proposals that the congressman does not support," Bock said in a statement. "There are portions of the American Rescue Plan that benefit NC-11, however, bills are not passed in portions, they are passed entirely or not at all, and this bill does significantly more harm than good.  (AP)

CARTWRIGHT ON BIDEN’S AMERICAN JOBS PLAN: “THIS IS A FRAMEWORK FOR INVESTING IN ALL OF AMERICA’S INFRASTRUCTURE, IN EVERY PART OF THE NATION”

THE INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN WILL BRING MONEY TO NORTHEASTERN PA TO REPAIR AND RECONSTRUCT CRUMBING ROADWAYS, CLEAN UP ABANDONED MINE LANDS, AND INCREASE BROADBAND ACCESSIBILITY IN RURAL COMMUNITIES

Congressman Matt Cartwright (Photo: LuLac archives)

U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright  made the following statement on President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan to rebuild our economy and create good-paying jobs for American workers:

“I have been calling for an infrastructure bill since I first got to Congress more than eight years ago, and President Biden’s American Jobs Plan is a framework for investing in all of America’s infrastructure in every part of the nation. The framework prioritizes upgrades to our roads and transit systems, delivers high-speed broadband to our rural communities, revitalizes U.S. manufacturing and more – all long overdue efforts to put millions of Americans to work in good-paying jobs and put us back on competitive footing with China. I’m especially thrilled to see a multi-billion dollar investment in reclaiming abandoned mine lands, money that will go a long way toward cleaning up the 300-plus abandoned mine sites in Northeastern Pennsylvania and create new economic growth opportunities.

“Whether they drive on crumbling roads, send their kids to school in aging buildings or struggle to get on the internet, Americans of all political stripes know from their lived experience that we need to update our infrastructure. I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues in the House to turn the American Jobs Plan into law.”
