WHAT MIGHT KILL A FATHER’S SON

This story came to me last summer from a worker at Geisinger Danville whose uncle worked with my dad on the Lehigh Valley Railroad.

In the winter when there was a lot of snow predicted, my dad’s crew was called out and traveled from Coxton (a suburb of The Junction) to Whitehaven and then after the snow fell, cleaned the tracks back to Coxton.

One night in Whitehaven, some of the guys started talking about their college aged sons and what worried them as dads about their son’s future.  One man said he was worried that his son’s drinking would kill him. Another puffing on aParodi cigar said his son smoked way too much and was sure that would end his life prematurely. Still another guy opined that his son was a very fast driver and it would not surprise him to get a call in middle of the night that his son died in a car crash. My father wasn’t saying anything until one of them asked, “So Jake, what’s gonna kill David?”

My father who usually deliberated on a question before he thought answered immediately. “Women…especially the tall ones!”

The women who shared the story laughed said, “Well I’m 5’2 so at least I’m safe.”

Indeed she was. He was a man of few words but when he did talk, he was usually on point. My wish for this Father’s Day, 10 seconds to tell him, “I love him and he was right………about EVERYTHING.

JUNETEENTH 2023 AT MLK PARK

What a wonderful crowd and a great day for the second annual Juneteenth celebration. It was great to see our Mayor George Brown at the event

In the next photo is the Democratic candidates for Luzerne County Council. From left to right, Jimmy Sabatino who got me safely up and down the hill there MLK, Brittany Stephenson, the newest member of the NAACP Executive committee, State Representative Eddie Day Pashinski, my favorite Wyoming Pa. resident Attorney Johanna Bryn Smith, a great union member and Pat Krushnowski.

CARTWRIGHT FUNDRAISER

Had a wonderful TGIF event after work. So fortunate to be at a Matt Cartwright gathering at the home of my former high school debater, Judge Joe Cosgrove and his artist wife Sharon. The Congressman was in great form talking railroads, infrastructure and continued good things for his district.

Also great to see Attorney David Schwager (thanks for the ride home Dave!) former Judge Lou Wetzel, Gerald Mecadon who gave me a fascinating history of the WB Law Association Mr. and Mrs. Carl Frank, a retired Mr. Kornfeld, Bob McDonald and his lovely wife, the Burkes (he of Junction fame) as well as others who thoroughly enjoyed Judge Cosgrove’s cocktail sauce as well as the brilliant art work (from her own hand) on the walls. Plus what a fine discussion Mrs., Cartwright and I had on eyewear and multiple pairs of ownership thereof.

From left to right, Sharon and Joe Cosgrove and the Congressman.
