RON FELTON GONE @ 1 YEAR

VEEP STAKES

George Mifflin Dallas

The decision is coming soon.  The announcement will be made in Philly next week and you would think it might be Josh Shapiro. Good symmetry. He is a great speaker, had national exposure and would carry Pennsylvania. Right now on the state website, Lt. Governor Austin Davis is being highlighted.  If Shapiro is picked, he'd be the second Pennsylvanian  to be Vice President. The last one was George Dallas who served under President Polk from 1845 to 1849. He tried for the nomination for President in 1848 but his tariff votes  restored his chances.

All that said, if not Shapiro....the Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz. That's the guy who can talk common sense to the masses.

LUZERNE COUNTY GOP REMAKE AND THEIR BIG LIE

This week the Republican party of Luzerne County picked a new chair and convicted felon T.J. Fitzgerald was front and center. No less an authority than convicted felon Frank Scavo from The Lac was quoted in the newspaper saying that  Fitzgerald's Herculean effort   put the GOP registration total just 2700 votes away from the Democrats.

The FACT is that number was achieved by the Pribula/Valenti regime and NOT ONE NEW VOTE HAS CHANGED. Just an FYI on the state of the Luzerne County MAGA party.

QUESTION FOR PROTESTERS

If you choose to protest  Democrats about the war, WHY NOT the Republicans? Did you  protest any Republican House member who invited Netenhgahu to speak to Congress?

U.S. REP. MATT CARTWRIGHT STATEMENT ON THE SALE OF CHS HOSPITALS IN SCRANTON AND WILKES-BARRE

Congressman Matt Cartwright (Photo: LuLac archives)

Congressman Matt Cartwright (PA-08) released the following statement on the purchase of Moses Taylor and Regional hospitals in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital by Woodbridge Healthcare:

“I’m optimistic that these important healthcare assets will be saved and hopeful that this new owner will be more accountable to the patients, to the staff, and to the community it serves. I’m particularly grateful for the tremendous work of State Representative Bridget Kosierowski, who took the lead on this issue and immersed herself in this effort to make sure local patients receive the quality care they deserve while keeping my office updated throughout ongoing discussions.”

CASEY VOTED FOR LAW THAT CREATED DIRECT FILE PROGRAM, PUSHED FOR IT TO BE MADE AVAILABLE TO AS MANY AMERICANS AS POSSIBLE

Senator Bob Casey (Photo: LuLac archives)

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced the permanent expansion of the Direct File tax program to Pennsylvania. This will give Pennsylvanians the option to file their taxes directly with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) online for free, as opposed to filing through a third party that often charges fees. Senator Casey called for the program’s permanent implementation and expansion after the IRS successfully launched the Direct File Pilot Program in 12 states. The program could save Pennsylvanians a total of $630 million in combined annual tax filing fees and additional tax credits claimed directly from the IRS.

“The numbers don’t lie: Direct File is a game-changing, commonsense program that enables Americans to do their taxes easily, securely, and affordably. Thanks to this program, Americans can confidently file their taxes and keep more of their hard-earned dollars,” said Senator Casey. “I fought to expand Direct File to our state to put more dollars back in Pennsylvanians’ pockets and to lower costs for Pennsylvania families.”

Senator Casey has long pushed for the IRS to make tax filing easy, simple, and secure for all Pennsylvania taxpayers, including by voting for the Direct File program and pushing for it to be implemented. In 2022, Senator Casey voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which provided the IRS with funding to improve customer service and study and implement this Direct File Pilot Program.

Casey applauded the announcement of the Direct File program, and pushed for it to be implemented as soon as possible. The program was successfully piloted in 12 states and saw 140,000 taxpayers claim more than $90 million in refunds and save an estimated $5.6 million in filing costs. A survey of 11,000 users found that 90 percent ranked their experience with Direct File as “Excellent” or “Above Average,” and 90 percent of survey respondents who used customer service similarly found the experience “Excellent” or “Above Average.” After seeing the success of the Direct File Pilot Program, Senator Casey urged the IRS to expand the program to Pennsylvania. Casey joined 130 of his congressional colleagues to call on the Biden Administration to make Direct File permanent and expand its functionality to all 50 states.

Direct File is a tax filing option that allows taxpayers to file their taxes directly to the IRS through a free, secure, and easy to use online portal. The IRS has long allowed Americans to file their taxes for free using paper forms, but has not previously offered an online, modern tax filing portal like is available for other financial products and services. The Direct File program could save Pennsylvanians up to $311 million annually in tax filing fees and help claim taxpayers up to $319 million in additional tax credits. Direct Filing will be available to all taxpayers with simple returns in the 12 pilot states, plus additional states like Pennsylvania for the 2025 tax season.

JOSH SHAPIRO AND GRETCHEN WHITMER RALLY TOGETHER FOR HARRIS AS RUNNING MATE JOCKEYING HEATS UP

(Photo: NBC News)

Govs. Josh Shapiro and Gretchen Whitmer — both under consideration to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate — held a joint rally Monday in the Philadelphia suburbs where they drew contrasts between the Democrats’ new standard-bearer and former President Donald Trump.

Shapiro, of Pennsylvania, and Whitmer, of Michigan, drew a crowd of more than 1,000 that included many who said they were intrigued by the idea that they could be hearing from Harris’ eventual VP pick.

“How good is John Shapiro?” Whitmer said. “Well, he’s gotten a heck of a lot done in just over … the last year and a half. And it’s another example of Democratic governors who believe in our three-part strategy: Get s--- done.”

The crowd chanted in response: “Get s--- done! Get s--- done!”

Shapiro is considered to be among the leading contenders for the No. 2 spot, along with others like Sen. Mark Kelly, of Arizona, while Whitmer said Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that she has “communicated with everyone, including the campaign, that I’ve made a commitment to serve out my term as governor in Michigan.”

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, who was considered another top contender, withdrew his name from consideration Monday night. (Allen Smith, NBC News)
