MAYBE I’M AMAZED

Our “Maybe I’m Amazed” logo.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that before Ronald Reagan’s state funeral in Washington in June of 2005, Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher’s plane invaded the air space reserved for the late President's flight into the Capitol. He was minutes away from being blown out of the sky until the authorities intervened.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that the last President to sport facial hair was William Howard Taft.  All other gentleman since then were clean shaven.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that 100 years ago people ages 25 and over  completed a median of 8.2 years of school. Today, 92% of the U.S. population has attained a high school diploma by the time they reach that age, while 36% have at least a bachelor's degree.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..but truly understand what Martin Luther King’s son meant when he wanted 47 to keep his father’s name out of any speeches Trump makes. King  the 3rd said  the disconnect between the president’s actions and my father’s values serves as a stark reminder that the legacy we leave behind is not just about what we say; it’s more about what we do — and the lasting impact our actions have on the lives of others.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that the recent backslide to the past continues under this administration. Just days before the start of Black History Month, employees from the Pentagon’s intelligence agency received a memo notifying them that all activities related to the annual commemoration were now banned. Furthermore, the agency also ordered the suspension of events marking Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, National American Indian Heritage Month, LGBTQ Pride Month, Women’s History Month, Juneteenth, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Holocaust Remembrance Day.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……. new FCC chairman Brendan Carr, a Project 2025 author and right-wing critic of the media, launched probes into National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service, two outlets that receive federal funding and have been often been targeted by conservatives.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that the Trump sycophants will try to blame all this stuff on Biden and Obama. Both Presidents FIXED stuff Republican Presidents did to run this nation into the ground. These are cult members who vote against their own interests and have no clue as to the damage they are causing THEMSELVES.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that the first telecast was The 13th Annual Grammy Awards in 1971 .

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Michael Jackson and Santana hold the record for the most Grammys won in one night. They each took eight — Jackson in 1984, Santana in 2000.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that  Snoop Dogg and Brian McKnight have been nominated 16 times for Grammys but have never won. Snoop seems to be doing pretty well and McKnight was once a contestant on “The Apprentice”.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that the oldest Grammy winner was the late blues pianist Pinetop Perkins, at 97 years old. The youngest was LeAnn Rimes at 14 years old. Taylor Swift, at 20, was the youngest to win album of the year.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that Ida May Fuller was the first recipient of a Social Security check in America.  In 1940 she was paid $22.54 at the age of 65.  She died in 1975 at the age of 100. She was a legal secretary and schoolo teacher in Ludlow, Vermont.
