PIZZELLA PINCHED

The Times Leader Online edition is reportinmg that Wilkes Barre Area School Board head Frank Pizzella has been indicted. Here's the report:
A federal grand jury has issued an indictment against Wilkes-Barre Area School Director Frank Pizzella – the third Wilkes-Barre board member to be charged since April. Pizzella, who has served on the board since December 2007, is charged with passing a $5,000 bribe onto a school board member who helped a person obtain a teaching job. According to the indictment, in 2004 a person, identified only an unindicted co-conspirator, sought a job as a teacher within the district, but was not successful. Pizzella knew the person and indicated he could get that person a job if the person paid $5,000 to the other board member, who is not identified in the indictment. The person and another person, listed as a second unindicted co-conspirator, then obtained a loan from a third person so that they could pay the money to the school board member. The money was paid to Pizzella, who then passed it on to the board member. The indictment comes on the heels of a criminal complaints filed against board members Brian Dunn and James Height, both of whom are also accused of using their positions to influence the awarding of contracts.
PIzzella was named President of the School board earlier this year in the wake of the indictments of Brian Dunn and Jim Height. Pizzella has been regarded as a political power in Plains Township and was said to be involved in political strategy for various Democrat hopefuls running in the 2009 primary and general elections. Pizzella also held the dubious position of Sealer of Weights and Measures in the Courthouse. It should be pointed out that the time frame in which the allegations were made, 2004 was a period of time when Pizzella was not a member of the board. To be sure he was politically active but not a board member.

Welcome to Luzerne "Indictment a Day" County, Pennsylvania, the state without a budget, USA. This thing is going to continue locally. Was almost every politician or board appointee corrupt? Are the overpaid state reps all thiefs and cowards? Freeloaders on the backs of the people they represent? Apparently anything was legal in Luzerne County as long as you didnt get caught! And the End is not in Sight
is it, Yonks?

It's not surprising Frank's in the tank- He wasted no time getting in the thick of things. Wonder how many deals he made once he became the president of the board. The salt of the earth- Another one who ran as being "There for the children."

On a unrelated topic, what are your thoughts about the ACORN scandal (or lack thereof, considering the story is being completely ignored by the mainstream media)?

IT IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT. MY QUESTION WOULD BE WHAT'S A POLITICAL INTEREST GROUP DOING GETTING FEDERAL MONEY? I'M NO TAX CRAZY BUT I THINK THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT. AND THE HIRING PRACTICES. IT'S OKAY TO GIVE PEOPLE A LEG UP AND CHANCE, I CONSTANTLY ADVOCATE THAT...BUT MAKE SURE THE PEOPLE ARE AT LEAST EQUIPPED WITH COMMON SENSE.
