PHOTO INDEX: REPRESENTATIVE KEVIN MURPHY AND THE MAN HE DEFEATED TWICE IN 2008, FRANK ANDREWS SHIMKUS.

REMATCH

Former state Rep. Frank Shimkus and Scranton School Director Kathleen McGuigan told the media early this week they will run against Rep. Kevin Murphy for the Democratic nomination for the 113th House district seat. Murphy won a contentious election with former Representative Frank Andrews Shimkus in the spring primary. In the fall Shimkus ran as a Republican and lost again to Murphy. Shimkus blames Barack Obama for his loss, a lot of Murphy’s supporters say it was the former newscaster’s abuse of per Diems. Shimkus says Murphy hasn’t done anything laying higher taxes and a bad budget deal at his feet. Murphy did not take his salary while the budget mess went on and was front and center for the people involved in the Scranton State School for the Deaf. This will be a campaign of charges and counter charges and lots and lots of yard signs.

A CHALLENGE

Lackawanna County Commissioner Corey O’Brien is challenging U.S. representative Paul Kanjorski to 10 debates. In a letter to Pennsylvania campaign director Joe Werner (ahh I knew Mr. Werner when he was just a lad!!) the O’Brien people want to debate 10 times before the May 18th primary. Lots of luck with that. In 2006 Dr. Joe Leonardi couldn’t get Kanjorski to debate him at all and in 2008 Kanjorski grudgingly deigned to debate Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta. Kanjorski gave a primer in the good things government can do and won a lot of respect with his debating skills. But he was pretty grumpy and nearly passed Barletta like the proverbial paycar passing a bum until someone told him to shake hizzoner’s hand. So guys good luck with your 10 debate request.

Kanjo is too busy taking money from Wall Street and the Big Banks in Washington why should he come back here and debate?

Kanjo would send one of his lackeys to debate OBrien. He should send mini me Maher who sounds just like Kanjo and just keeps cashing a check for doing nothing. Put down the free sandwich and free dinner roll mini me and debate for your boss Kanjo because he is too busy being funded by Wall Street.

Cant Kanjorksi send one of his yes men to debate then if he can not make it. Everyone who is associated with Kanjo has to get out of Poilitics. First Kanjorski it is time to retire just leave. Paul Maher your time is up as well. You r in the paper more then the President but dont do any thing. Ed Mitchell dont you have another dirty politican to run. I hear Rod Blagovich is looking for a job maybe you could run him for Wilkes-Barre School Board or Mayor of Wilkes-Barre. The citizens of Wilkes-Barre will vote for anyone so why not him.

He thinks he can spend his way through each election. Not this time.

Maybe he'll move from Nanticoke to Wall Street after May, they will welcome him with open arms and give him a great place after all the help he has given them.

No need to debate, O'Brien is the replacement Congressman for this District. Kanjo along with mini me and Arlen need to take a bow and exit left. They should not have to be told their day is done but if need be, the voters will deliver the message. I for one need my Social Security and Medicare and Kanjo voted for the health reform bill that would remove 500 billion dollars from Medicare. Bye bye Pauly. Say good nith mini me.

Time for both Pauls to leave. Everyone is just tired of Paul Maher and below I will tell you why. I think others just had the same dealings with him. From my dealings with him he doesnt know what the heck is going on. He does not say hi to you when you say hi to him. He is paid by the tax payers so he should be nice to us. He gives you dirty looks. I had him one time acting like I should kiss his ring. And one of his lackeys said that I should be afraid of paul maher. He hands out palm cards on election day at his poll but only gives them to people that he likes. I remember him being in the kanjo campaign office when he should have been working in the congressional office. He walks around saying u know who i am u know who i am.

EDITOR'S NOTE
I have always found Paul Maher to very approachable and a good representative and envoy for the Congressman. He's been around forever, was a major power in Wilkes Barre politics and has made many friends and evidently a few enemies. On the whole, I like the guy even though some of you don't. And obviously the Congressman thinks he's okay. I don't think the Congressman suffers any fools gladly.

Why should anybody suffer fools gladly? I don't at work, and am looked at as a prick. Too bad- Do your job. I agree with the remarks about Maher- The contacts I've had with him reek of entitlement. He's Paul's rep, and don't you forget it!

Maher thinks he is the congressmen time to vote both of them out.
