SPECTER ON AIR

Arlen Specter in the fight of his life for re-election to the U.S. Senate is up and running with a great ad. Specter is running even with Democratic foe Joe Sestak but is still regraded as the favorite in this race. Specter, a true statesman in my estimation deserves to stay in Washington as long as he wants. Here's that ad:

TAX DAY

Today if you haven’t done so is the day you pay your taxes. Mrs. LuLac and I already have the refund in the bank and every penny is spoken for. To me it is a great privilege to pay taxes in this country. I have no problem with paying taxes, I just wish there was a more equitable way to pay them. Even though Ed Rendell is my man, I think the property tax system in Pennsylvania s a disgrace. And gambling has not solved the problem in the Commonwealth. I have always been a proponent of a user tax for all goods. Some people say that tax helps the rich and penalizes the poor. Look, I want to even the playing field. If a millionaire wants a 30 pack of Coors he has to pay the same tax as the guy on welfare. We need tax equality.
All that said, there are certain groups in the country that are making taxes the linchpin of some very dangerous conversations. We all should pay our taxes but we should demand that the money be spent wisely. Think of how much money could be saved if there was not so much corruption in LuLac land!! While the slime balls in the Courthouse (some, not all, Little Red Wagon comes to mind though) make their deals, needed services for non profits are being cut because the county doesn’t have the money. Gee, I wonder why!
I’ve always said taxes are the dues we pay to live in a free society. I still stand by that…..but now more than ever we have to watch the bastards in charge. To that end, there is an event tonight in Lackawanna County. Here’s news from GOP 22nd District candidate Frank Scavo:
WHAT: APRIL 15TH TAX DAY TEA PARTY
WHEN: 5 P.M. THROUGH 8 P.M.
WHERE: LACKAWANNA COUNTY COURTHOUSE, N WASHINGTON AVE, SCRANTON
VENUE: OPEN MIC FOR THE PUBLIC. ON THIS LAST DAY TO FILE YOUR TAXES, SPEAKING OUT IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY. CANDIDATES AND TEA PARTY ORGANIZERS TO ADDRESS LIBERTY, DEBT AND OUT OF CONTROL SPENDING.
(Just wish you guys were around during the Bush administration, you could've saved 4,000 lives of U.S. Military people in Iraq, maybe prevented the Wall Street fiasco and kept Halliburton from reaping billions. I won't even mention the destruction of the middle class and keeping a boot on the poor and underprivileged's neck. But better late than never I say).

Other polls Specter vs. Sestak still show a wider spread--that poll you mention showing Specter running even with Sestak is a Rasmussen poll--a poll that some are skeptical of because it skews polling data, doesn't sample widely enough or largely enough, and is accused of being conservative-leaning (at least it is accused of leaning right by Democrats haha). A Right leaning poll might have it's own reasons for spinning the data on Specter too--punishment for Party switch? Hoping to give Sestak some much-needed juice because he is the weaker candidate and the R's know Toomey has a better shot against the Admiral?

VP Biden will be coming to do a rally for AS at the W-B/Scranton Airport on Friday April 23rd--2:15pm. I wonder if the ever-affable and popular VP with Scranton roots will give Specter a bounce in the polls at all.

I agree with you that Specter is a "true statesman"--I'm supportin Specter and I got to admit at first I was skeptical when he did the party switch but then I learned about how he's long been respected and supported by some Democrats when he was still a R, especially organized labor. He was always moderate on social issues and would even vote across the aisle on them. It's true he is accountable for some Bush votes such as authorizing the Iraq War, but then a lot of Dem Senators got hoodwinked into voting yea on that as well, including our aforementioned now-VP and now-Sec of State Clinton--not to cast aspersions on them because I think they're both great And I've heard many stories about the extent AS went to help constituents who asked for his help over his long career--REGARDLESS of their party affiliation (all public servants should behave the same and follow that example when governing).

Equality????? DON'T HOLD YER BREATH!!! That'll never happen. If it hasn't happened in over 200 years, it ain't gonna start now. If anything the rich will get richer. Don't mind paying my fair share, but holy cow... did you see the list of celebs. who didn't pay taxes and what they supposedly owe? WOW!

If for no other reason than his help to the steel workers, I will vote for Arlen. He is the best Democrat in the Republican Party. He was always for the working man and I hope the voters are not swayed by the political bullshit that will be thrown on Senator Specter.
