THEY'LL FOLD
The Times Leader reported the other day that the Rice Township Board of supervisors were hit with a rate increase from Blue Cross. Health insurance increases and meeting-date changes were voted on during Tuesday night’s Ross township meeting. Secretary Terry Davis said she received notification from Blue Cross of NEPA about an increase in the township’s health insurance premiums. The increase would require township employees to pay an extra $37 for family and $14 for individual policies a month, Davis said. The question facing supervisors was whether to keep Blue Cross or look around for other policies. Supervisor David Williams said he has not heard any complaints from “the guys.” Other supervisors agreed on satisfaction with the carrier and the insurance rate increase was accepted.
MULLEN ON THE STREET
Saturday Mrs. Lulac and I saw what appeared to be a grand opening for a campaign office on Wyoming Avenue in Kingston. A major party? Nope, it was Third Party candidate Tim Mullen. Mike Anderson, Campaign Manager for Tim Mullen is announcing that the Mullen Campaign has now opened their campaign office at 220 Wyoming Ave. in Kingston. The office will be used for all activities, including a phone bank staffed with volunteers, literature and sign distribution to precinct captains , along with campaign meetings and fundraisers. We will be open daily, the public is welcome, and the coffee will always be on!Lou Jasikoff, Chair for the Northeast Pennsylvania Libertarian Party, added that “this will help coordinate all our campaigns in Luzerne County. Strategically located at Kingston Corners. Our goal is to make this Mullen’s State Representative office. If all three Luzerne candidates (Betsy Summers, candidate for State Senate District 14, and Brian Bergman, candidate for State Rep District 119) were elected we might propose combining their offices into one, especially where the districts overlap, to save the already over taxed, and over burdened citizens of Pennsylvania and Luzerne County some of their hard earned tax money.
BLOG MEET UP
The next blogger meetup will be Friday September 17th at Rooney's Irish Pub 67 S. Main St. Pittston, PA 18704 starting at 5PM. There is big bar area with tables off to the side and plenty of free parking across the street where the Tomato Festival is held. It's easy to find just drive north on River Street from W-B and it's on the left. Or south from Scranton and it's on the right. It looks like we will have a good turnout. So far I have received confirmation from about 25 campaigns for Congress, State Senate and State House that the candidate and/or supporters will be attending. That includes Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians and Pastafarians. The statewide candidates have been invited along with office holders not up for election this year and people interested in running for local offices in 2011. Some national figures have been invited and you never know who just might make it. Last time over 150 people showed up.Our political bloggers from Luzerne and Lackawanna counties will be there along with our readers, commenters and people who are just interested in local politics.

Insurance rates will rise to cover the new costs under Obama's plan. So when those uninsured are mandated to buy, they won't be able to afford it anyway. Then Obama will push through his government run option.
Don't be so sure Blue Cross would fold Yonk.
Every provider is trying to get their rates up so they can survive the coming ObamaCare dictates.
If they don't do it now they won't be able to cover all the "pre-existings" and "19-26ers" that are mandated.
Rice Township employees recognized that the extra bucks was better with the "devil they know".
The Yankees President laid it on the line. One thing he is right
about, government has no business in baseball. He was cocky, arrogant and totally within his rights when he basically said, We are the NY Yankees! Dont screw around with us. We are Winners.
We get our way almost all the time.
I say take the deal and let the Yankees run the baseball team. The Stadium Authority was a corrupt little fiefdom long before Bob Cordaro got involved. I bet the Yanks turn it into a profitable enterprise. Say thanks to John McGee and move on into the future and this time build a stadium free of political involvement and one that will last.
