The LuLac Edition #1663, July 1st, 2011

PHOTO INDEX: "MAYBE I'M AMAZED" LOGO.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED

Maybe I’m Amazed…….that the Chaplin who testified at the Elvis Aaron Ricardi capital murder case says he found spirituality in prison. Yeah it was either that or weight lifting. Give me a break. The last refuge of a murderer is God. And I’m sure he/she finds that wildly amusing and ironic.
Maybe I’m Amazed…….that people who are barely making minimum wages in this area are so pro GOP. They worry about the deficit and big government spending. But they don’t realize that so many programs in this area were gutted by the GOP House. If this were 1776 they’d be rooting for the British.
Maybe I’m Amazed…..that the “Aqua Mom” is now a celebrity. Her claim to fame is birthing babies. Knock her out, she’s already been down for the count.
Maybe I’m Amazed…that it is already the Fourth of July weekend. The middle holiday of the summer. Summer seems so short in comparison to the long winters here in LuLac land.
Maybe I’m Amazed…. that the man from California whose company is part owner of the downtown University Corners development filed for personal bankruptcy. Don’t wish ill will on anyone but it will be a long time before the Chamber sees that money.
Maybe I’m Amazed…….that the baby factory that gave birth to the little infant who whose skull was rushed to death by her boyfriend now says “she was afraid of her 20 year old lover”. (By the way she’s 28 and has had 5 other kids). Wasn’t that afraid though to spread her legs for him though 9 months ago was she!
Maybe I’m Amazed……that even a liberal like me thinks a federal program to provide breakfast and lunch for kids in the summer is just a little out of whack. Plus there are no income levels or checks either so any kid can get the meals. And we wonder why parents abdicate all of their responsibilities to anyone who’ll take them for the sake of convenience. I’m all for social programs helping the poor but even for me this is just too much money going in the wrong place.
Maybe I’m Amazed…..that my newly adopted National League team (the Pirates, I picked them because they were so bad I didn’t want to be accused of being a bandwagon jumper) are above .500. The Pirates took 2 out of 3 from Boston last weekend and enabled the hated Yanks to reclaim first place.
Maybe I’m Amazed……..that at this year’s Old Timer’s Game at Yankee Stadium, there was no recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of the ’61 Yankees which featured the contest and quest for Babe Ruth’s record between Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle. They honored the retiring trainer who seemed like a nice enough guy but hey, c’mon this was the fiftieth.
Maybe I’m Amazed……that Glenn Beck has left Fox News and is starting his own . Internet network, GBTV, and will begin streaming a two-hour live show there in September. His fans can pay $9.95 a month for access to GBTV, or $4.95 to see just his daily show. Maybe I should start YONK TV and rant and rave like he does. Crazier things have happened.
Maybe I’m Amazed…..that on TV there is something called “The Christian Dating Service”. The ad says “God has been waiting for you”. Now look, there are problems in the middle east, people starving our troops getting attacked in more than a few wars and the Higher Power is fretting over who’s zoomin’ who! I don’t think so.
Maybe I’m Amazed…..and grateful that - Maria Sharapova returned to a Grand Slam final for the first time in 3 1/2years Thursday with a patchy but winning performance that carried her past Sabine Lisicki at Wimbledon. All my male friends just don’t think it’s Wimbledon without Maria.
Maybe I’m Amazed….that a certain tough guy talk show host, Mr. Corbett admitted to chirping at birds on beautiful mornings here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. An incredulous Rusty Fender should know that this man knows a beautiful morning when he sees it.

Maybe I’m Amazed……
that my man Pope Benedict is using Twitter! And I’m not!

Maybe I’m Amazed…….that The LuLac Political Letter is closing in on 1700 Editions. Here’s one of our first promotional videos for our newer readers.

Yonk, Great video. Hey, I can't believe that a guy who is so well fed such as yourself doen't understand that poor kids need to eat 12 months out of the year, not just 8 or 9. The fact that the program is not supervised and qualified as it should is no reason to deprive those who really need it from having it. Where the hell has your heart gone?

I don't have a problem with kids being fed. But this program completely eliminates the income level and fee schedule. That's my problem because then there will be a tendency for people to take advantage of it. The social programs started by LBJ were/are wonderful. Where they went wrong was that all of them took away the incentive to get off them. People took advantage of the programs because they figured the government owed them. Sorry we owe the government. There are generations of people on welfare now because they never had the incentive to get off it. And I understand making this for every kid as a way to not put the poorer recipient in a box, singled out. But a solution to this is simple: at the end of the school year measure the income levels and send out vouchers to every kid who needs them in the mail. This way it is not an overall socialistic feeding of the masses. And again, there is an element here of letting "all" of the parents, income level and all off the hook for taking care of their kids in the summer. That's my stand on it and my liberal friends are not happy.

See David, I think the problem is those people at WYLN are wearing off on you. Being in close proximity to L.A. Tarone and Tiffany Cloud is turning you deftly toward the right.

The Pope on Twitter before you. Hilarious. Buddy, you are way more conservative than you really think. I agree it's hard to deny a kid lunch but there has to be fee standards. I've seen too many people take advantage of a good thing. Was in Wilkes Barre a few weeks ago, hubby and I were in a bar and the guy is changing the Channel and I see you on 7. So I tell him to go back. Good show. We're trying to pick it up on line.
Have a great 4th.

P.S. Don't let the compliment go to your head!
