The LuLac Edition #1893, January 9th, 2012

Richard M. Nixon and wife Pat.

NIXON AT 99

ELVIS AT 77

Yesterday would have been Elvis Presley’s birthday. He would have been 77. Today Richard Nixon would have been 99. The two were linked by a special visit from Presley. Take a look at these two icons in action.

RAISES FOR FLUNKIES!!

Last month we told you that State lawmakers would be receiving 3 percent raises but as they say in the knife commercials, “wait, there’s more!!” The Harrisburg Patriot reports that state legislative employees are eligible for higher pay too.
Staffers in three of the four legislative caucuses will get raises. Those working in the Senate Democratic Caucus and the Republican and Democratic offices in the state House of Representatives wlll earn raises ranging from 1.45 percent to 2.5 percent.
Many of the Legislature’s 3,000 employees went without pay increases for some time when the nation fell into a recession, but many are once again eligible for higher pay. For now, Senate Republican staffers are going without raises. Some state workers who aren’t getting raises — and haven’t had them for years — are angry. The paper reports that the raises for most legislative staffers come at a time when Gov. Tom Corbett has asked for shared sacrifice. The governor asked teachers to give up raises they were due — and some did. His administration also has secured agreements from several state workers unions on a 12-month pay freeze in their new four-year contracts. But hey, pay the flunkies because God forbid the overpaid Legislators have staffers who aren’t taken care of!!!

CANDIDATE SCHOOL

The University of Scranton is going to have a candidate school for women who want to run for office. Scranton University is putting it on on January 28th from 8am to 5pm. It’s in Brennan Hall, you can contact Dr. Jean Wahl Harris or Stan Zygmunt at the university, 941-7400,
Guest speaker will be former Congresswoman Marjorie Margolles Mezvinsky, Chelsea Clinton’s mother in law. The theme of the program is “Ready to Run”. Maybe with the lack of success of women candidates trying to break through in Lackawanna County, the program should be retitled “Avoid the sharks”.

Just think, Elvis will be 80 in three short years! Boy, Time flies.
Dick Nixon, in my opine one of the great Presidents had he not let his own paranoia destroy his accompishments.
The EPA.
The first President to understand that the key to fighting drug abuse was to address drug addiction.
Declared War on Cancer.
Offered Ted Kennedy a very viable health care program that would have changed coverage for the better--had Ted not turned him down.
Strengthened not gutted Great Society Programs.
Had a long view of the Middle Eastern problems
Had a long view of the Soviet Union--undone by Reagan's cold war revamping.
Not sure of this one, but I believe he created OSHA, bringing workplace safety to the forefront.

THese are just a few of his accompishments---some he succeeded at, and some he failed. Still, at least he addressed these issues in an eloquent, intelligent manner.

Too bad he let his paranoia/obsession over JFK and the Press get the best of him.

Happy Birthday up there Mr. President. I'm sure you and Jack are smoking a stogie and reminiscing about the days when Dems and Republicans could actually work together and not bicker like preschoolers.

Bless You!

Students,
As much as I admire Mr. Yonki and his papers, I find it a bit nauseating to place an uneducated ingrate such as Elvis Presley with a man of great intellect such as Richard Milhous Nixon.
Mr. Presley is responsible for igniting the flame that eventually soaked Americas youth in a keg of perverted and degenerative behavior. Now, I understand that Mr. Presley, compared to present day rock stars is tame. HOwever, he opened the door to what is now the slacker generation.
And the fact that the man was attracted to women under the age of 15 does not do his reputation any additional justice. When the US Postal Service, under the Clinton Administration mind you, place Presley on a postage stamp, I fired off a seething letter to the postmaster General in protest.
Yet, this is the liberal attitude of which we live in today's world. Never mind that the man was a child predator, just as is Roman Polanski, we shall just ignore that fact and honor him. At least Polanski had the decency take his vermin body off of America's shores.
I am certain that President Nixon, upon meeting Presley, had no idea who he was. He was being what Richard Nixon was--a nice guy, a gentleman, indulging the self effacing rock star for a minute in the oval office. And that's all it was, students--around one minute. A few pics snapped and it was over. Good bye Elvis.
I am sure that once all of his fans who are now in their 60's and 70's (I was a Perry Como guy myself) pass away we will no longer have to be reminded of this white trash ingrate.
The only difference between Elvis and a person on welfare is that Elvis got paid an overtly enormous amount of money for singing the most screeching and unlistenable music known to man.
Something to think about this afternoon.....
Class Dismissed!!!!!!!!!!

Yonki, here's what baffles me. How an ultra liberal like you can celebrate Nixon every year on his birthday!!!

Will the Professor be a daily feature now? If so, I will have to suspend reading Lulac for the time being. Even when this moron gets it right he is wrong! Jesus what a pompous ass!

THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE TRUE, BUT I DON'T STOP COMMENTS OR EDIT THEM JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE "OUT THERE". COME BACK SOON.

There ya go: don't like what a poster says: try to ban them from the playground.

I never gave it much thought but "The King" did seem to like underage girls - Prisilla was 15. Jerry Lee liked 'em young and part of the extended family. Jerry paid a higher price than Elvis.

I'm still baffled why we haven't learned our lesson and just ignore social and political comments by any entertainer until they leave the industry.

No Yonk only edits criticism concerning the WILKers.

I agree 100% on Nixon's presidency. If he were no blined by his own ego and the two bums he trusted so much, I have no doubt that he would have been remembered as one of the greatest. As for president Gipper, he was a total waste obsessed with destroying middle America. I think he was the father of his bastard son Karl Rove. Rove's theory is attack their strength. Reagan tried to privitaze Social Security and Kill Medicare and when Tip O'Niel stopped him, he went public taking credit for saving those programs. Unfrigginbelievable!

I'm sure the phony professor will continue to offer his idiot thoughts and he has the right to contribute them. You have the right to skip them and save yourself aggravation.

This pisses me off. If the men tried to run a class for only men, I don't care what the subject is, the women would throw a fit.

I'm with 4:58. Too much professor
puts a damper on Lulac. No need to talk down to other readers. I bet the professor works at a convenient store and is an expert woth the mop and broom not that thats bad, but I've about had enough of him too. I usually like to see and hear what people have to say. This fool beats his own drum of personal superiority and enough is quickly enough. How about one post per week?

A Dedicated Lulac Fan

Truth is Yonk does edit by not running comments negative toward WILKers. Be honest, Dave. You expect it from others and preach the high road. Nobody objects to the so called professors comments, its his attitude toward other Lulacers that offends. The man? is clearly troubled. But dont tell us you dont edit because you do!

At 1:48 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just give up commenting on those who grace the halls of WILK. Dave will never allow any criticism of those who do nothing but criticize others.

I would love to see some women offer up their perspective. I believe that they don't because they quietly admire the professor's postulates.

I've found more and more females like a man who is a man. Not the over-evolved, sensitive, marshmello but a guy who can change a tire, open her door, let her go first but won't be told how much he should spend on the ring. Get it?

The Professor and everyone else here is free to post. C'mon, it's not brain surgery. Opinions are welcome. Just don't get mean and nasty in terms of the way people look.

When are people going to wake up to fact that the Professor is pulling your leg.

I'd appreciate the professor keeping his hands off my leg!

As far as the Get Right with GOD Republicans and their relationships with GOD, I thank GOD I am an AGNOSTIC and thats after Catholic gradeschool and High School and a Jesuit University.

Of course the professor is pulling everyones leg. Nobody could be that big an asshole! Somebody sure must have time on their hands and not much of a life to do it though.
I enjoy most Lulac posts from the lunatic fringe to those that make sense. Most of it is well intended
and occasionally there is a good thought put out there.
