MAYBE I’M AMAZED

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that so much fuss is being made over Tim Tebow’s Christian beliefs. Does anyone remember Roger Staubach in the 70s? He wasn’t exactly going to strip clubs every night. Tebow’s success is coming about because he is erratic, a throwback and is perceived as the under dog. Americans love the under dog. Consider this: last Sunday when Tebow came back to beat the big bad Steelers, more than 42.4 million people tuned in to watch. The last time that many people watched was last year’s Superbowl! Plus the TV audience share was over 30%. Top shows don’t get anywhere near that. And Tebow’s theatrics generated 9,420 tweets a minute. That is amazing.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Paul McCartney is catching fire for the name of his new album, “Kisses On the Bottom”. Man do some people have dirty minds. School girls have been putting kisses on the bottom of letters for years. Then of course there’s this song:

MAYBE I’M AMAZED….
..that the GOP is coming after Mitt Romney for being uh pro business. Is the party of business having a guilty conscience of the go go greed is good mentality that GOPers always promoted?

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that it is already two years since the devastating earthquake in Hatti. What is even more disturbing is that a half million people are sill not back in their homes.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..Memphis officials on Thursday approved naming a city street after the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., nearly 44 years after the civil rights leader was killed in the city. Memphis already had a section of Interstate 240 dedicated to King, but the naming of a prominent street in the city's tourist district is being seen as a symbol that the city is finally taking steps to heal the wound caused by the assassination. But c’mon, 44 years it takes them to name a street after the guy?
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…that my man Pope Benedict named over 20 new Cardinals who will vote on his successor. The Pope also came out against same sex marriage. His belief system is still intact. His papacy which has been regarded as an interim one is being watched closely given his increased frailty and age.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that the Gallery of Sound Store in Edwardsville is closing. That store was always one of my favorite places due to the kindness and knowledge of the staff.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that now Newt Gingrich is pulling back on his attacks on Mitt Romney. First he was going to savage him but now he changes his mind. Can you imagine this in a Gingrich presidency? First I will and then I won’t. No wonder the guy has had three wives.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that a Judge has officially declared poor Natalie Holloway dead. What an awful case. Yet the scum bag Van der Soot or whatever his name is still is around and getting undeserved face time on TV. But he got 28 years to rot for the murder of some other girl.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that former Senator and Debra Winger boy toy, Bob Kerrey is now 68 and considering a comeback to run for a Senate seat from Nebraska. Kerrey ran for President in 1992 against Bill Clinton and was at one time pretty popular. Kerrey is going for the seat of the spineless and clueless Ben Nelson. That guy was such a big baby busting President Obama's stones on health care it was just to me incomprehensible that he called himself a Democrat. I hope Nelson goes very soon. He was a disgrace to the Democratic party, its principles and its President. Let’s hope Kerrey, if he chooses to run does better.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Stephen Hawking recently turned 70. He just keeps on keeping on I guess.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Congressman Tom Marino has endorsed Rick Santorum in his bid for the Presidency. That took guts and some loyalty on the part of the first term Congressman. How it translates in the long run will be anyone’s guess. But Santorum is not burning any bridges on the campaign trail like Perry and Newt. You might see him as a credible choice for Vice President on the 2012 ticket.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that it is 34 years that Hubert Humphrey, former Vice President of the United States died on this day. Was in a car driven by a college buddy in an ice storm after a night at Barrels, Whiskey and Rhyme when I heard the news.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that baseball Commissioner Bud Selig got another extension on his contract as Commissioner. Selig was named in 1992 as an “interim” Commissioner and is still there twenty years later!

Hope all of those new Cardinals won't be wearing those Catholicized $500 Prada shoes that his holiness wears. Simple man, poverty, Nahh. I'd consider switching back to being a Christian instead of a Roman Catholic. Christians seem to have a better hold on earthly reality that the Papists.

I agree. Those Gallery of Sound folks are some of the best. Do you remember when Nardone had that corner of (was it Zayre's in Kingston?) back in the mid or late 60's? That's were the kindness and knowledge developed.

BTW: Maybe I'm Amazed ... that no one has suggested watching American Airlines try to work its' way out of the financial morass it's in. It should provide insight into how venture capitalists operate. Leveraging debt, investment, asset liquidation, lay-offs, pensions, etc. Of course, it will take energy and learning to gain understanding, plus an acceptance of the fact that nothing is perfect and we may have to make hard, unpopular decisions and follow through on them.

The Bud Lite Era has gone on too long! What we need, Son is a Kennesaw Mountain Landis type with long white hair and a crazed stare in his eyes! Some righteous, fire breathing down from the mountain leader to clean it up again! It damn sure needs it. Baseball is a great game. Some have disrespected it badly!
