The LuLac Edition #1896, January 10th, 2012

Mitt Romney, a determined front runner.

ROMNEY ROMPS TO # 1

Mitt Romney was projected as the winner of New Hampshire’s Republican presidential primary on Tuesday, giving the former Massachusetts governor a sweep of the first two critical tests in the GOP nominating contest.
Romney quickly moved to consolidate his support by delivering an impassioned victory speech that focused not on his primary opponents but squarely on President Obama. He appealed to voters in South Carolina, who will go to the polls in 11 days, to propel him to the nomination and “make sure 2012 is the year [Obama] runs out of time.”
Speaking to supporters in his campaign headquarters in Manchester, N.H., just half an hour after the polls closed, Romney assailed Obama for failing to live up to the “lofty promises made by a hopeful candidate.”
“Today we’re faced with the disappointing record of a failed president,” he said. “The last three years have had a lot of change, but they haven’t offered much hope.” Adding a shot aimed directly at Obama’s recent jobs tour, Romney added: “The middle class has been crushed. Twenty four million of our fellow Americans are still out of work, struggling to find work or have stopped looking.”There was no talk of Romney wanting to fire anyone here tonight.
Based on early exit poll results, Romney appeared to have received a vote percentage in the mid-30s. That’s good, he breaks the 26% plane. Ron Paul was on pace to finish second, followed by former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, who had skipped last week’s Iowa caucuses to focus his effort here and enjoyed a late surge in the polls.
Former House speaker Newt Gingrich and former Pennsylvania governor Rick Santorum were farther back. Santorum finished just behind Romney in Iowa.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry didn’t campaign in New Hampshire so he could focus on South Carolina.
So Romney moves on to South Carolina with Gingrich in hot pursuit with a 5 million dollar stipend from a billionaire gambling executive. That money will be spent to beat up on Romney. Paul will continue on and will have a segment of the vote. Huntsman needed to do better in New Hampshire. There was no big surprise shocking win which he needed. Santorum might connect with southern voters with his values issues but needs to get more organized and a little more money.
On January 21st, South Carolina becomes the next big test. In the days ahead, the campaign will play out like a bad TV rerun. Let’s chase Mitt, Mitt bad. Mitt responds, I am not. Opposition candidates say, yes you are. And so it goes.

Students,
As you are well aware (or probably not) the next President of the United States won last evenings New Hampshire Primary--and his name is not Barack Hussein Obama.
I need not, nor do I prefer, to rehash old lectures so I will go on to what I believe to be a very important point.
Consider this, class, not a lecture, but a statement.
Many in this class have made it a point to malign me and tarnish what is, was and will always be an outstanding reputation.
As a few of my defenders (and I thank them for it) have stated "stop the name calling and make a valid point if you disagree."
Yes, some of the misguided youth are good kids (more than likely the product of good Christian Republican parents). But most of you are over indulged ingrates who were more than likely prescribed Ritalin as toddlers (more than likely financed by my tax dollars). But I digress.
I have never hijacked anything. I shall leave that to the liberals who wish to put "order" into our lives via useless, tax eating social programs.
If anything, I have tried to be reasonable as a teacher of unreasonable apes.
Now, mind you there is nothing wrong with youthful rebellion--it is a rite of passage--but to a point.
I recall as a young man when Thomas Dewey was seeking the Republican nod to run against Harry Truman. I argued intensely with my father against a liberal New Yorker being granted the privelige (for the second time) of Republican standard bearer. Just as with Wendell Willkie eight years earlier it seemed to me that the GOP was heading straight into the hands of becoming and identical twin with the loyal opposition. I had argued for a more conservative candidate.
MY father was for Dewey. However, in these jostles with my father I did not malign him. I respected his opine.
Such is the difference between your generation and mine.
Too many of you have never had to work for anything other than talking the girl (or man) next to you into a romantic tryst. And most of you probably did not even succeed at that.
In closing, I wish to remind you that I am not forcing you to attend these lectures. YOu attend them on your own behalf. And if you continue to malign me, I will be forced to consider such acts when examinations come up.
I do not wish to compromise you all, I beg of you not to compromise yourselves.
And, as a great man once stated, "If you cannot play with the big dogs, stay on the porch!"
Something to think about this morning.
And a quick congrats to Governor Romney.
Class Dismissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Romneys firm profited in SC, jobs disappeared

(AP) A venture capital firm run by Mitt Romney created nearly 150 jobs in Gaffney, S.C., in the late 1980s only to eliminate them four years later and earn millions of dollars in profits.

The Associated Press reviewed Bain Capital's little-known investments at The Holson Burnes Group. Bain doubled its $10 million investment into the clock and photo supply company. But workers in South Carolina and New Hampshire lost their jobs as the company consolidated and expanded its operations overseas.

By sheer coincidence, the economic fallout from Bain's decisions struck hardest in South Carolina and New Hampshire. They are among the first states with early primary elections that could affect Romney's run for the White House.

Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said Bain Capital ultimately created tens of thousands of jobs.

My take on Willard Romney and his work at Bain Capital:

Romney = Job Creator = "BULLCRAP"! Bain Capital bought out companies, over leveraged them, fired workers & sold off the companies in parts, many to overseas companies. He and his compatriots made multi millions and he is still now receiving payments from Bain. Romney has used that money to accumulate vast wealth of about a quarter billion dollars or more. With this personal fortune Romney has been able to be elected governor of Massachusetts run and lose to Ted Kennedy for Senator and run for the past six plus years for President. Yea Willard, your not a career politician. Romney is the Gordon Geko of his time in real life. For Willard "Mitt"Romney and Gordon Geko, "GREED IS GOOD"!
PS: For all the Republican Evangelicals, tell me how do you equate Mormonism to Christianity?Just asking cause I know you all are such staunch "Value Voters"!

It's hard to argue with the Professor since he lived the history and background he uses to support his positions.
As a longtime reader of LuLac, I believe the Professor keeps the site from swinging too far left. The "stop that! or I'm going home and not playing anymore" reveals the immaturity that can paralyze a site.

The redeeming feature of the internet is that you can go and find a site to feed your philosophical incest.

Thankfully I notice Yonk has a high tolerance for a wide range of responses - before you WILK-arsonists toss one my way: you need to adopt an evidence-based and thoughtful approach to your criticism. Some of us understand that the purpose of the host is to hold your attention between commercials. Get it? Learn from the failure of Air America, the success of Rush and everything in between. Even Imus was deservedly taken to the woodshed by Cavuto when he went off the rails.

Stay the course Yonk, even when I don't agree with you I understand why you take the position you do - someday you'll come around. :-)

Venture capital is the Darwin of business. They try to improve the efficiency of the structure.

The news services say Bain failed in 30% of the cases. That implies a 70% success rate.

I am not promoting job loss but having worked in a couple of failing companies I saw the writing on the wall.

Consider a doctor who tries unconventional methods to extend/save the life of a "terminal" patient. Would you focus on the 30% failure rate?

It has been posted many times in much better ways but to use Hollywood stereotypical pop culture characters to prove complicated real life issues dulls the point.

Lt General Bailey Tharpe
US Army Retired

ATTENTION!
Inspired by the Professor, whom I admire greatly, I would like to announce that I will be posting daily until further notice
on the Lulac Political Letter on subjects ranging from my heroic actions in Korea and South Vietnam
and Grenada over a 35 year career in our nations military as well as my observations on draft dodgers, hippies and welfare recipients. My only concern will be my rock solid ideas and my ego. I will talk down to you all as I always did to the worthless grunts who served under me. I would have become Chairmen
of the Joint Chiefs were it not for the election of draft dodger, wussie Bill Clinton as President. My credentials are impecable and in all modesty I was the greatest military genius since George Patton. I know you will all be looking forward to my pontifications and as per his own statement Mr Yonki will do nothing to edit or dismiss my remarks. So now that you know what you all have to look forward to, my first postings of doctrine and hyperbole will appear tomorrow. My first subject, "Victory in Vietnam and how it could have been achieved."
Until then, STAND AT EASE, Troops
and Smoke em if youve got em.

The General

Don't need to know him personally when I share the history with him - though I believe him to be slightly older and male: based on those same comments and use of pronoun. Think older brother.

The comments and observations he uses to frame arguments reflects what I believe the truth of being there, living then, reflecting now.

Someday as age and hopefully, wisdom cure within you - this experience will reveal itself.
