HOLDEN RALLY

Today there will be a rally for Congressman Tim Holden in the Greater Pittston Area. The event will be held at Valenti’s Restaurant in Exeter on Sunday afternoon. The thing that cracks me up about this rally is that political flunkies, lackeys and toadies will be there even though I bet 99% of them had no freaking idea who Tom Holden was until the Congressional District was changed. But the same tired old political hacks who got their kids and cousins jobs in government beat a hasty trail to the Holden door. They are not supporting Tim Holden because they care about America’s future, they aren’t supporting Tim Holden because they care about what he could do for the district and they aren’t supporting Tim Holden because he is going to give a crap about this area. They are supporting Tim Holden because they have their hands out and want something. Take a look at some of the photos of the people attending, I believe Joe Valenti will be there from Pittston Politics.com. He'll take a lot of pictures. Look at the faces…..the same sorry ass “political” people looking to feed at the Holden trough. Hysterical but truly, truly sad.
Karen Boback mailer targeted at Dems in upcoming primary.

BOBACK WRITE IN EFFORT

State Representative Karen Boback is waging a write in effort on the Democratic side in Tuesday’;s primary. Boback has no opposition in the fall against a Democrat and wants to keep it that way. Boback was first elected in 2006 when long time Representative George Hasay stepped aside.

EVANS BACKS “DUKE”

Casey Evans, long time Democratic activist has written a letter on behalf of Democrat Mark Barrett who is mounting a “write in” effort for the 117th seat. Barrett almost got the required number to get on the ballot but almost doesn’t count. Barrett is better known as “Duke from Dallas” a frequent caller to WILK Radio and a friend of local bloggers and progressives in this area. Here’s Evans’ letter: Democratic voters in the 117th District, please write in Mark Barrett for State Representative on Tuesday, April 24th! Due to the Supreme Court ruling regarding the redistricting plans that shifted the boundaries back to their 2001 borders so close to the petition due-date, Mark didn't have enough time to collect the amount of signatures needed for ballot access, despite an amazing push in the final days. He is leading a true grassroots campaign to get on the November ballot to represent the voters in the 117th! You may know him from radio call-in shows as "Duke from Dallas". He will have all party resources available for his run. An accomplished software developer, Mark will stand up to corporate lobbyists and the gas industry in Harrisburg, and be a stalwart and responsible leader for clean, safe drinking water and he will work to end loopholes that allow corporations to essentially do as they please with no oversight. He understands that when our students are doing well, our state is doing well, and while Tom Corbett aims to destroy our educational system by cutting it down to the bone, Mark will restore funding to our public schools. If you feel that Karen Boback has been unresponsive to citizens, running unopposed will make her even less so. She needs to be held accountable for her abysmal, Corbett-enabling record in Harrisburg. Her recent vote to allow Republicans in Harrisburg to supersede local zoning laws allows the gas industry to override the will of the people in communities across Pennsylvania for the sake of profit; that's just one of many issues where Rep. Boback has sided with special interests over the people she was elected to represent. She voted for Tom Corbett's disastrous budget two years in a row, crippling public education and further burdening local taxpayers. Essential PA services, like Adult Basic heath care & Medicaid, that help everyday Pennsylvanians, have been sacrificed on the altar of "deficit reduction" in order to give more tax breaks for corporations. Unbelievably, Boback even proposed raising taxes on seniors and low income families through new taxes on food, clothing, and retirement income, in order to eliminate taxes for wealthy property owners! We deserve better, and Mark is the right man for the job. Six years of Karen Boback is enough. So this Tuesday, please write in Mark Barrett for State Representative - he won't work for the gas industry, but he will work for YOU! Casey Evans 2nd District Chairman Dallas

i had attended the forums you had hosted and i was going to attend holden rally, i was going to take my son, it would have been his first political rally, however, i don't want him or myself to labled or ridiculed my people like you so we won't be attending. kind of sad that i wanted to teach him about the process, i don't want him to be named called just because we are trying to experience the process. perhaps you need to realize that your influence can turn people off. i used to really enjoy your blog and events, however, you have become very mean spirtited and negative in the last few years and you have turned into an attack machine much like steve corbett and kevin lynn; facts me damned it doesn't matter who i hurt i will spout off, as long as i get attention. i suppose that is why you have drawn such hateful commenters as of late. i remember early on you wanted your blog to be free of that kind of b.s., now you are vitriolic and angry, so if that is what you are striving for you have succeded, in our case we will now be very low key and try to avoid being on the end of your hateful wrath.
maybe you have been doing this too long.

The only problem I have is that if Boback had enough time to collect enough signatures to get on the ballot, why didn't Duke?

BELIEVE ME, YOU AND YOUR SON ARE NOT THE PEOPLE I'M SPEAKING OF. I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE HIM TO THESE EVENTS BECAUSE THEN, AND ONLY THEN, CAN YOU TELL THE PRETENDERS FROM THE PEOPLE WHO ARE VITALLY INTERESTED.
TO SPEAK TO YOUR OTHER POINT, YES, HAVE TAKEN ON A HARDER EDGE BECAUSE WE ARE NOT BEING SERVED BY THE SAME OLD CREW DRESSED UP IN DIFFERENT CLOTHES.
AS FOR MY INFLUENCE, I'M JUST ONE GUY WITH ONE LITTLE QUASI COMPANY TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT YOU THINK I'M MORE THAN WHAT I AM- BUT DON'T USE ME AS YOUR ONLY INDICATOR.
YOUR THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS WILL BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. THANK YOU.

Yoni - That was a bit of my dry sarcasm. Never for once thought you were classifying me into that category.

To 7:12am......

I think it's good that LuLac has taken on an edge. I think Yonk is just as sick and tired of these fakers than all of us. I used to think he gave people more of the benefit of the doubt. A few days ago Dave wrote about Paul Ryan and Biden's comment about the Reps not hiding the football no more. Tom Corbett is a perfect example and no one listened. You and your son need more than this blog, Cable news and newspapers to make your decisions. Think and then act accordingly.

I'd like to share this note I got via e mail today on the holden/cartwright race. Maybe that guy can read this to his son on what politics and responsibility is all about:
On Tuesday, voters in Pennsylvania's new 17th District will choose their Democratic candidate for Congress. MoveOn members in the district endorsed Matt Cartwright, but in case you haven't made up your mind yet, we wanted to make sure you have the facts about the candidates. Check them out—then share them with your friends so they can make an informed decision.
1. Tim Holden has consistently voted with Republicans. He was one of just a few Democrats who voted against Obamacare, he voted for the "Halliburton loophole" that lets hydrofracking companies pollute our water, and he voted to keep the Bush tax breaks that only benefit the 1%. 1,2,3
2. Matt Cartwright has spent his career fighting for middle class families. He's spent decades as a consumer attorney representing regular folks against big corporations and polluters. And he's running for Congress because he thinks we should strengthen Obamacare to include a public option, close the Halliburton loophole, and eliminate the Bush tax cuts for the richest Americans.4, 5
3. Tim Holden has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from industry lobbyists, including the ultra-right wing Koch Brothers. In this election cycle alone, he took money from big polluters, health insurance lobbyists, and the Blue Dog PAC. And Koch Industries PAC, which gives almost all its donations to Republicans, singled Tim Holden out for a $2,000 donation.6,7
4. Holden is resorting to desperate, last-minute smears to try to save his job. Holden unveiled a new TV ad on Thursday, but quickly had to do damage control and stopped running the deceptive ad because of complaints about its accuracy. He even admitted it had "gone too far."8
5. Matt Cartwright is the only real progressive in the race. He's been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn members, and Retired Admiral Joe Sestak. Cartwright calls himself a "Roosevelt Democrat," and he'll fight for the 99%, as he has his whole life.

All reasons to keep holden, since hindsight is showing him to be correct

Just saw Joe Valenti's pictures from PittstonPolitics.com. The usual suspects Yonki. As always, on target.

Unbelievable, just looked at Valenti's photo box of the Holden affair in Exeter. re they kidding me? At least 6 of those people told me they support Cartwright and there they are. This is a deal where it doesn't matter who is at what event, they pat backs, smile and then vote their own way. I just can't take the hypocrisy of it. The biggest laugh was Red O'Brien hand in hand with Tony Rostock. Red's boss Jimmy Hadock is going to have some strong words with Red over that picture. Politics does make for strangle bed fellows but truth is, there was very little credibility in those photos

The reason Duke didn't have time to get signatures is because there was another candidate in the race, however when the 2012 redistricted maps were pulled at the last minute, with only a week or two before petitions were due, that candidate was no longer in the 117th. He only had a short amount of time to get the necessary amount and although he came quite close, he came up just shy.

Do any of your actually understand what a primary is? Yes Holden is a 'blue dog" democrat. Yes Cartwright is so liberal he makes Steve Corbett seem conservative. But after Tuesday, one will be in the general election the other will not. Of course supporters will show up at both candidates rallys. Do you think either one of them will support Laureen Cummings?
If the loser is smart he will help the victor. If not then this could be a replay of Meuser/Hackett.

1026 it amazes me that this kind of thing goes on...lots of people at the holden event who said that they would vote for and support cartwright...???...and they say republicans in luzerne county are the backstabbers!!
