The LuLac Edition #2197, September 15th, 2012
Duly elected and duly deposed Prothonotary Carolee Medico Olenginski.
THE EXILE SPEAKS!!!!
As her ex husband would most likely attest, Carolee Medico Olenginski does not go quietly into that good night. Friday County manager Bob Lawton fired her saying her services were no longer needed. Lawton said that he was not pleased with the Prothonotary’s lack of cooperation in the merging of her office with the Clerk of Courts. In his letter Lawton wrote:
“Your communications on the matter since then, however, give me no reason to believe that you are fully committed to contributing to a solution on terms other than your own,”
Olenginski Medico called Lawton a dictator and complained that he plotted behind her back to remove her from the position.
Look for the former Prothonotary to take a little break and come back in 2013 to run for one of the contest County Council seats. It will be then that County Manager Bob Lawton will learn in Luzerne County politics that the only final acts in politics around here come at the politician’s committal service.
FUNDING RESTORED
The Times Leader reports that The Meyers High School Speech and Debate team had its funding restored on Friday when the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board took that action. The board was apparently persuaded by presentations made by team members at Monday’s regular meeting. Debate moderators Kim and Ruth Borland rallied their charges to speak out at the board meeting. The Borlands have an enthusiastic commitment to this project and have contributed a great deal of time and effort to its success. Kudos to the Wilkes Barre Area School Board for doing the right thing. As a taxpayer, I am pleasantly surprised. And thankful.
Gordon Smith's column today said last week we gave 1 BILLION dollars to Egypt to purchase submarines from Germany! Haven't seen this any where else in the news, but if it's true, words can't explain how sicking our foreign policy has become!!!!!
These Days President Carter lost the election to Gov Ronald Reagan in part because of the hostage situation in Iran. Could the violent protests against US Embassies have the same effect on President Obama allowing Gov Romney to back into the White House? I'm a novice when it comes to foreign policy. Frankly just not interested, but why dont we just shut them down and leave places where we are not wanted. Same for foreign aid. Simply cut it out! We cant afford it anyway theses days.
Sam ....well I can understand your confusion so let me clear it up for you ...O.K. in case you missed it the real story was not our dead Ambassador or the 3 other dead .....it wasn't that our embassy was now a smoking hole in the ground ....it wasn't that the embassy had been warned several times by different people that there was trouble coming and then ignored by our state dept.....it wasn't the fact that there had been four attacks on our or other embassies or embassy personal over the last several months .....it wasn't the fact that with obama's support the muslim brotherhood now controls and runs a major nation state in Egypt ..... it wasn't the fact that we supported with our military and tax payers money the insanity in Libya that allowed the conditions to develop that lead to this ....it wasn't the fact that while obama subbed the Israeli government he did extend an invasion to the former leader of the muslim brotherhood and now president of Egypt .....it wasn't the fact that Embassy security was being provided by not by U.S. Marines but by militia groups ....it wasn't the fact that obama government in essence told the mulims they are sorry for our free speech rights .....it wasn't in hindsight that obama had introduced a bill in the U.N. attempting to ban criticism of Islam making it a thought crime ..... it wasn't the fact that the obama government is denying that the attack on our embassy was a well planned out attack with heavy weapons and 3 different teams .... its not the fact that is spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary the obama government insists that muslims love us and its just a few malcontents who are raping , pillaging and plundering in 20 plus nations as we speak....no Sam its none of those ....what you need to focus on is Mitt Romney's horrible criticism of our beloved president for his government abandoning free speech to appease the muslim mob and that he may have had the time line wrong ....thats the real story Sam ..... I hope I cleared it up for you and you are now thinking right
The fact that the student debate team had the ability to confront the Board of Education and use the training offered by the Boyland's is proof positive that the program was worthy of funding. I find it amazing that the funding for an educational program was less important than a football team. I guess that's the Valley mentality.
As for Carolee or any row officer not accepting their salary is not a point for others to approve or condemn. Keep in mind that like her or not, she put her personal effort as well as her personal funds into her election effort and she won. The law allows for her to collect her salary and I see no reason for her not to. Again, like her or not, she went to work everyday and that was a novelty under the dome. As for Lawton making a decision, let's keep in mind that every decision that has been made to date has been in favor of Republicans and I'm not all that happy with the choices made. Hiring a Council clerk from Scranton was an insult to everyone in Luzerne county and I shall remember that when these Bozo's come up for reelection. Lawton went to Allentown to find a Republican part time Accountant and I assume it was because there are no accountants in Luzerne county competent enough to handle the county position. Then Republican Art Bobbouine is given not one but two offices to manage and he has never managed anything in his life. What does that say about Lawton's ability to hire?

"""""""He had an accountant that saved the county from the brink of financial disaster. His name was TOM PRIBULA! And he declined to take his advice. Or look at any of his work he and his successor left behind."""""""""""
Aggie- Sorry. Your long winded, repetitious blunderbust is just too boring for me to read. I dont like Romney and so to you my thinking will never get right. I skipped to the very end. I appreciate your efforts to set me straight, but I'd rather read the professor of pompositys scribblings. You and he share one thing in common, an assinine arrogance and a superior attitude which causes you to talk down from a very low level.
Anon 1:22 sounds like quite a bitter Democrat. I'll bet good old Anon couldn't get elected to Dog Catcher, or Controller, or County Council, or get hired as County Manager.
10:28, I am anon 1:22 and I am not a Democrat. I am a registered Independent and I have no intention of wasting my time with this form of government, it just doesn't work. Proof is in LuLac's espose' of the Big Lunch Meeting. As for county Manager, I am not qualified and I know my own limitations. Public Administration was not my interest in college nor is it now. You used a shotgun and didn't even come close to the truth. I've continued my father's business and have no intention of giving it up. Hopefully, the day will come when my daughter will take over from me. I'll leave plitics to you people who are so in the know and continue to watch from my perch.
The lunch meeting between Lawton, Brominski and Solano is very interesting. The "eyes" of Lu Lac are far reaching. Lawton never misses an opportunity for a breakfast or lunch meeting. Perhaps he needs to spend a bit more time in the Courthouse "Managing." I wonder what Lawton had to eat. After all I recall one of the newspapers reporting that Brominski liked Lawton right from the start when he ordered scrapple for breakfast prior to being hired. I'll remember to include that on my resume if I ever apply to Luzerne County. Lawton may be from out of the area, but there must be some area connection that we're not aware of yet. Although the public sentiment appeared to want to end the politics as usual in Luzerne County, Lawton plays it well; so much for the Manager being independent from the Council.
Good to hear Anon. Nice to know folks who know their limitations and are smart enough to pack it in when the time is right and the rewards are appropriate.
Hey Sam I like the "professor of pomposity" and I think he and Agnes 95 are dating. I saw a couple at Percy Browns the other day who I thought might be them. They were enjoying the Waldorf Salad and Boston Creme Pie. Neither left a tip!
The talk around Penn Place concerning the hiring of the Clerk from Lackawanna County with no experience and 3 jobs in 2 years is that she was recruited by Lawton's finance guy Mazziotti who is from Northampton county. Apparently he had a connection to this babe and they threw the Interim Clerk under the bus because they didn't think that "an old part could function in a new machine"...the Interim Clerk was Urban's former Administrative Assistant and the Council of Clowns would not allow a member of the old admnistration to continue in that position, even though she ranked as the best candidate. Why don't the newspapers investigate this? Why? Because they are all in bed with the Home Rule government and Council of Clowns.

Accepting a salary for doing nothing is unacceptable, elected or not. If Medico does so, it will be something she never can live down, period.
