Hey Yonk,

Reread "Fahrenheit 451" and tell me the society depicted by Bradbury doesn't share a lot with our modern era.

After sampling EVERYONE's coverage I watched it on FNC and was riveted.

Loved the reactions at the sports events when the capture was announced. THAT is the difference in the USA. These b@stards don't realize the hornets nest they kick up when they mess with us.

No where else in the world do you see similar reactions from citizens.

I thought Steve Corbett had the most insightful analysis just before the suspect was apprehended. He said, "The suspect is either at-large or dead."
Brilliant.

WELL HE WAS RIGHT. LOOK CORBETT HAD HIS HANDS FULL WITH ALL OF THE NUTS CALLING HIM SAYING THE GOVERNMENT WAS BEHIND IT, THE GOVERNMENT KNEW, THE BOSTON POLICE WERE HORRIBLE, AND DON'T BELIEVE THE GOVERNMENT. I CAN'T BLAME HIM FOR STATING WHAT YOU THINK IS THE OBVIOUS. WITH WHAT I HEARD, HE NEEDED TO THOUGH I DON'T THINK IT STUCK.

Dave,
I know you won't agree, but Corbett should NOT have even been on the air Friday. WILK gave up all regular programing and aired either Boston radio, or national newsfeed. Which I and many were glued to.
I couldn't believe when I heard him come on a little after 3, and neither could several people in my office, one who is currently in media, and another who was in media.
There was no reason for the local perspective while the search was still going on. There will be plenty of time for the other garbage once the story had concluded.
Fortunately, the internet exists and my smart phone has live radio news apps, so I was able to stay informed.

IN RESPONSE 12:18PM.....

EVEN THE TV BROADCAST NETWORKS GAVE UP THE GHOST AT 4PM. NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. IF I HEARD SCOTT PELLI ASK THE SAME QUESTION ONE MORE TIME FROM A TERRORISM EXPERT OR SAWYER ON ABC GET ANOTHER COMMENT ABOUT WHAT A "SWELL" KID THE SECOND SUSPECT WAS, I WAS GOING TO PUT ON TV LAND. ALL THEY WERE DOING WAS FILLING TIME. I'M SURE SOME HIGHER UP MADE THE DECISION. I WISH THEY DIDN'T PUT HIM ON EITHER BECAUSE THE LEVEL OF THE CALLS HE GOT WAS FRINGE. AND THAT WAS SCARY. EDUCATING CALLERS ABOUT SERIOUS NEWS SOURCES IS EXHAUSTING WHEN THEY ARE QUOTING THE WAY OUT CONSPIRACY SITES AS FACT.

Overnight CNN's coverage was good and ahead of the others then they brought in Wolf Blitzer who was bad enough but the worst by far was a young lady named Erin Burnett
who was completely lost as an anchor. Of course much was repeated by all, but it was the on the street reporters who did a fine job in a tough situation. At times it seemed some of the experts
were holding back.
I remember my best friends mother who during the JFK ASSASINATION coverage was disturbed because her soap operas were preempted. Now look at our expectations.
Overall the media did the best they could in a fast developing situation and managed with help from the authorities to stay out of the way.
The coverage is not the story. The dead, the wounded and the fact that two young men managed to hold a major city hostage is sad and almost unbelievable. Clearly some connections will be discovered and conspiracy theorist will be very busy for years to come.
Meanwhile America survives another attack and now the media can get back to important issues like the Jodi Arias trial!

YOUR POINT ABOUT THE EXPECTATIONS IS VERY VALID. WHEN JFK GOT KILLED, I REMEMBER MY DAD MUTTERING OVER AND OVER ABOUT HOW TV WAS A WONDERFUL THING BECAUSE THE EVENT WAS BROUGHT RIGHT TO US. MAYBE THE EXPECTATIONS ARE OUT OF WHACK BECAUSE WE HAVE SEEN SO MUCH.
The coverage is not the story.
AGREED.
