The LuLac Edition #2503, August 26th, 2013

EARLY INTO THE FRAY

Bruce Simpson has had enough and he is announcing that he will run for Mayor in the 2015 Mayoral race. Simpson has been mulling the decision for a while. Any person taking on the entrenched political interests of the city of Wilkes Barre is going to have an uphill battle. The wisdom of starting so early can be debated. The positive is that Simpson, a retired Federal employee could build more name recognition and tout his qualifications. The negative is that the political establishment in Wilkes Barre, so long dominant will have time to find a suitable alternative (at least in their minds) to a person with governmental, law enforcement and practical life experience in and out of the political arena.
See for people like Simpson, this is all about good government. For almost all of the elected officials in the city of Wilkes Barre, it is all about the “family business”. What’s in it for me….not how can I help.
Simpson definitely can help. And he’s no lightweight either. He garnered an impressive amount of votes when he ran for County Council in 2011 carrying the city of Wilkes Barre.
Simpson needs to build upon his constituency of supporters by pointing out that the people who pay the freight in Wilkes Barre are getting screwed. Neighborhoods are being ruined by marauding college students in the North and South end of town. (Corbett talked to a woman who is on her last nerve this afternoon).
Cronies of the political establishment get their relatives jobs without shame. City officials who ridiculed people for bringing out public safety issues a few years back now won’t come to Council meetings unless of course there’s photo op and a chance to get the new hairdo in the paper.
If Simpson could register at least half of the people fed up, he’d have a puncher’s chance. But the task will be overwhelming because sometimes “What’s In It For Me” trumps “What’s good for the city”.
Here’s his press release:
Bruce J. Simpson of Wilkes Barre City, has just announced that he is Democrat candidate for Mayor of Wilkes Barre. The former candidate for the County Council received more votes in Wilkes Barre City, than any other candidate in the Democrat primary.
"It's time to make sure that the current Mayor of the city is replaced as under his leadership, Wilkes Barre City has become "Dodge City." This is no longer acceptable when even little girls are being hit by gun fire. New Leadership is required if we are to reverse the current violent trend, and restore the streets to the people who have paid for them. The Wilkes Barre Police Department has done its best under the circumstances, but we need a police chief with full powers and not those which have been truncated by the Mayor. A total reorganization of the department is also called for, with an eye of using available resources in a better, more efficient manner that will increase their effectiveness. The policy of "cooking the books," on crime stats must end. Actual crime stats must be reported to the FBI and not ones that make the city look like, "Crime is down." It's not down, it's up regardless of what City Hall is putting out.
The latest abuse of the system was the hiring of the Mayor's brother by the School Board even though he wasn't qualified for the position and was not recommended! How blatant can this situation get? What happened to the gas? The questions go on and one, but the answer is plain: Leighton has to go, and quite possibly will go before the end of his current term.
Anyone interested in bringing back honest government in Wilkes Barre is encouraged to join me in the march to victory by writing to the campaign at: Simpsonformayor@gmail.com.

Simpson is a really nice guy but he is completely unelectable. He should save his money and his time.

Dear 8:19,

Thanks for your compliment about being a nice guy. However, you conclusion that I'm undetectable is totally off. I look forward to the fight to take back the city of Wilkes Barre and return it to the hard working citizens of the city. You can join us and be part of the solution. Just drop my campaign an e-mail. I don't care if you're republican, democrat, or independent. We would welcome your support.

Thank you,
Bruce J. Simpson

Bruce, unelectable..not undetectable. EVERYBODY KNOWS WHO YOU ARE! That and youve run for every job out there.

My fear with you Bruce is that you are too much of a liberal and those liberal views would probably mean you would go soft on criminals and drug sellers. We all know Leighton is a loudmouth do nothing with no plan for the city and how it is run.

I have to ask you:

What are you going to do about crime in the city? Shootings? How are you going to combat the drug kingpins who run wilkes barre? What are you going to do about this if you are elected mayor?

I wish men and women on here would have the testicles to use their real names instead of hiding behind "anonymous."

I've run for ONE office: County Council, and I took Wilkes Barre City. So, I have no clue as to what you're referring too. You obviously know nothing about me, not a clue if you're going to make statements about being a liberal and crime and in fact it's rather humerous. What are you afraid of? Are you one of the people planning on running for Mayor and shocked that I'm starting to build a campaign now? Why am I a liberal? Identify yourself so we can engage in dialogue. I have already worked out a plan with law enforcement advisers which I have no intention of announcing this early in the campaign. So either grow a set of balls and state who you are, or I'm finished with responding to someone who sounds like they belong in the GOPT.

The very fact that you're on here making these kinds of statements on who you "think" I am makes it clear that I am more than electable. If you've got some hidden agenda, spill it!

After reading mr. Simpsons biography I would vote for him over what's in there now. I'd have to say a former police officer and magistrate from maryland beats a rwal estaye agent anyday.

That was a great response from Simpson. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but attacking a candidate with existing problems and not waiting for the campaign to begin is a bit much. for one am interested in what Simpson has to offer and having read his credentials when he ran for County Council, I am confident he has a handle on the issues and a plan to solve the many existing problems in the city.

Your comments on Simpson sounded a great deal like a personal attack. Why would you say he ran for every job that comes up? You refer to him as a Liberal therefore he would be soft on crime? Excuse me but he is not running for Judge or District Magistrate or is he applying to be the Chief of Police. He is running for mayor of the city and city council creates ordinances but no elected official in city government creates or dismisses criminal laws. What's with you? If you want to know more about Simpson's campaign issues and solutions, call him or go see him or get involved in his campaign. This attack really does sound more personal than political.

OH Gawd Bruce..is this what you are going to do when Johnny Voter asks you questions? make it about them instead of why you want to run for mayor? are you sure you even want to run for mayor without a plan??

"i cannot reveal..i cannot say"

come on Bruce..you have to convince people to vote for you. not have a chip on your shoulder or have sour grapes about why you lost for county council. you only demonstrate why people wont vote for you.

wilkes barre democrats already have somebody in government with a chip on his shoulder and an ax to grind. his name is steve urban. we dont need another one. simpson go home!

4:04, it's hard to take you seriously. As I told the Times Leader today for tomorrows story, I am not releasing my plan for controlling crime in this city until the race gets a lot closer. I have law enforcement advisers, have personal experience in law enforcement, and I am under NO obligation this early in the game to reveal it. People want honest government, something that is rare in these parts. That's what they'll get from me, honest government. Care to identify yourself? By the way, I don't want to run for Mayor, I am running for Mayor, right now.

LET ME WEIGH IN HERE ON THIS. IF I WERE RUNNING, RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD EVER, I REPEAT EVER GET INTO SPECIFICS.
HERE'S WHY.
1. IT IS EARLY. THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF TIME FOR A CAMPAIGN.
2. BY TIPPING HIS HAND, SIMPSON WILL GIVE THE ESTABLISHMENT IDEAS THAT THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO THINK OF WHILE THEY HAVE THE POWER. WHY SHOULD SIMPSON HAND THEM IDEAS ON A SILVER PLATTER!?!?
3. THE THINGS DEVELOPED IN THE CITY, THE THEATRE, THE INTERMODAL STATION, ALL McGROARTY'S IDEAS THAT WERE BLOCKED BY LEIGHTON AND KANE AND THE OTHER DO NOTHINGS ON COUNCIL.THEN SWEET JESUS WHEN THEY PUT IT TOGETHER IT WAS LIKE BIG NEWS AND THEIR IDEA!
4. IT IS STUPID STRATEGY TO TELL "THEM" IDEAS WHILE THEY GROOM A FLUNKY, AND THEY HAVE MANY IN THE STABLE WHO THEY CAN CONTROL.
THE GUY IS RUNNING. HE HAS IDEAS. HE IS WAY BETTER THAN THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION WHEN IT COMES TO OPENESS AS WELL AS MANAGEMENT.
5. I WILL SAY THIS ABOUT AN IDEA SIMPSON HAS: MORE POLICE.
YOU GET THAT BY REWORKING THE BUDGET AND GETTING RID OF THE CRONIES, THE RELATIVES AND THE FLUNKIES.
AND WHILE WE'RE AT IT, SIMPSON NEVER RETREATED FROM THE ETHICS COMMITTEE. HE TOOK A STAND BECAUSE IT WASN'T BEING DONE RIGHT.
WE'VE HAD ENOUGH OF "THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR GOVERNMENT WORK" POLITICIANS THE LAST TWENTY YEARS IN THIS PLACE.

Unbelievable! Who is this jerk that is filled with such venom for Simpson that he digs into nothingness to come up with accusations that are meaningless and contain no merit? It is obvious that the same person is penning all of the negative comments and I honestly believe that they are so openly personal and so very vindictive that the nut job penning them is going to help Mr. Simpson win this election. I wonder if the Nut Job is going to attack every candidate that sticks his toe into the political pot to check the temperature? It is idiots such as this that keeps good people from getting involved. If I were Mr. Simpson I would not even consider representing the likes of this guy but I am very happy that he is going to represent me and other level headed taxpayers.

I think it is quite instructive about some of the negatives being written about Bruce Simpson. As usual, they are attacks without solutions.
So if this gets these people riled up, they must be scared.
I'm balls to the wall for Simpson now.
Thanks for making up my mind negative Neds!

Well this proves one thing and something the big DEms should fear.
People know this guy, are willing to attack him but others are ready to defend him and support him.
Maybe Yonk is wrong, maybe he started just early enough!!!

Thank you all for your intense interest in my political future, I'm flattered. Time to set the record straight.
One. I did not run from anything with my tail between my legs. I stood on something called principle. Ever heard of it?
two: If you want honest government with solutions, then you want me.
three: if you want to attack me for made up reasons like oh I don't know, the fact that I'm gay??? Go right ahead. This CITY needs a change of face. This city needs new solutions for old problems. The source of all this crap is coming from a group called, "Wake up Wilkes Barre," They're trying to make it a scandal that I use one name as an author, and my real name for oh, I don't know, legal things like running for Mayor. If you're trying to upset me with your venom, it ain't workin'
and finally 3. I AM SO GLAD I DID NOT WIN THE COUNTY RACE. Now you can believe it or not. But note the number of council people who will not be seeking re-election. It is a circus over there and that includes things like the Ethics commission as well. You don't like me, don't vote for me.

WAKE UP WILKES BARRE. REALLY? I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IF IT'S TRUE.
I THOUGHT THEY WERE THE GOOD GUYS BUT I GUESS I WAS WRONG.
SEE THERE IS AN ELEMENT OF PEOPLE IN THIS CITY THAT I BELIEVE LOVE THEIR OWN MISERY.
YOU DON'T CHANGE WILKES BARRE BY "DEMONSTRATING" IN FRONT OF CITY HALL WITH 8 PEOPLE, THREE OF THEM KIDS.
BRUCE, IF IT'S OKAY WITH YOU, I'M GOING TO TAKE ONE COMMENT ONLY FROM WAKE UP WILKES BARRE IF THEY CHOOSE TO RESPOND. BUT I'M SUSPENDING ANY FURTHER COMMENTS BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO RESPOND TO THE NONSENSE I'M SEEING.
GET BACK TO WORK.

If Lu Lac is going to start endorsing candidates Yonk just say so ok? What Simpson did on that ethics commitee was typical of most politicians in this area. When things dont work out for their best interests, they simply duck and cover and then quit. I just calls em like i sees em.

THE ONLY CANDIDATE LULAC EVER ENDORSED WAS MATT CARTWRIGHT WHEN HE RAN FOR CONGRESS.
I AM SIMPLY LETTING MR. SIMPSON'S ANNOUNCEMENT SPEAK FOR ITSELF.
THROUGH THE SEVEN YEARS I'VE BEEN DOING THIS, I'VE PUBLISHED MANY A PRESS RELEASE. TO DATE, I'VE NOT SEEN SUCH A RESPONSE.
WE MAY ENDORSE AGAIN BUT NOT FOR A RACE THAT IS 3 ELECTION CYCLES AWAY.

Hadnt seen this forum used that way before. Might be an idea here.

Honestly Yonki you cant promote Bruce Simpson as good of a man as he is and not expect people to ask him questions. i think Simpson would be great for the city of wilkes barre. we need a change. things dont work politically when people dont talk to each other. we need to bridge the gap and simpson would be a good man to do it, but hes running and he is going to have to answer some tough questions. sorry but thats just how it is.

people have some differences with him because he quit his job on the ethics commitee. people have a problem with it and they deserve to know more.

Once Walter Griffith left office, I wanted to never speak of him again in public. He is a private citizen now and should be left with his privacy. There were no secrets about why I left that commission. Check the news stories of the day.
