COME ON EILEEN!!!!!

Dropped by late but there was still a residual crowd filtering in and out at the Sorokus for County Council event. From Left Rick Sorokas, your blog editor and the candidate, Eileen Sorokas. (Photo: Mrs. LuLac).
I had to post this photo from Gort 42’s Facebook machine. From left to right are Democratic County Council candidates Renee Ciaruffoli Taffera, Richard Kick Heffron, former standout softball player in the Wilkes Barre Area recreational League and Eileen Sorokus’ husband Rick and Council candidate Mike Giamber. As you can see Rick Sorokus was looking down and reportedly saying, “Somebody dropped a fifty cent piece on the floor and my God they put Brominski’s face on the coin!” (Photo: Gort 2)

SOROKAS RALLY

The place to be Friday night was the Polish Club in Hudson as Eileen Sorokas, former Democratic State Committee woman and candidate for Luzerne County Council had a pre election rally. More than 90 people were in attendance at any given time. The event was held from 5pm to 7pm.
Sorokus had a full slate of people attending including fellow Democrats running for Council. Mike Giamber was holding court at a crowded table with a group of senior citizens and really made quite an impression. Richard Kick Heffron worked the room and Renee Ciaruffoli Taffera was seen huddled with Council Chair Tim McGinley. McGinley pulled a big vote last time and undoubtedly he was giving a member of this Democratic team some tips. Linda Hauck stopped by and made the rounds and had conversation with residents attending from Hanover, Wilkes Barre, Ashley and even the greater Pittston Area. Current Council member and former County Commissioner Ed Brominski was a towering presence and was greeted warmly by what looked to be a bi partisan rally with both parties in attendance.
GOP candidates Kathy Dobash, and Paul DeFabo attended as well as former GOP Chairwoman Lynette Vilano.
The candidates for Controller were also front and center and were cordial. Michelle Bednar was accompanied by her campaign sidekick Stanley Knick of Dupont and Carolee Medico Olenginski made a big splash trying to make up ground as the GOP designated nominee after the resignation of Walter Griffith.
Mrs. LuLac and I got there late because of my regular Friday night television commitment but saw former aide to Congressman Kanjorski, Paul Maher leaving. I’m told we also missed Mr. and Mrs. Gort. But we had a slice of pizza, Eileen saved me a Classic Coke and we had a nice chat with her husband Rick and his brother who did a lot of heavy lifting for the event.
This is only the first of many campaign events coming up this season and I’m sure there will be more than a few that will be hard pressed to meet the standards of this great and fun event.

GRINAWAY-KATSOCK EVENT

Don’t forget that key fundraiser at the end of this month for two candidates running for the Wilkes Barre Area School Board. Current board member Christine Katsock and Kathy Grinaway will be holding a fundraiser on Sunday September 29th from noon to 4pm. Cost is $15.00 per ticket or 2 for $25.00. It will take place at the Plains Lions Pavilion which is located at Clarks Lane in Plains.
On the menu will be hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers, haluski, pasta salads, deserts and beverage.
The event is creating some buzz already. Many of the County Council candidates I spoke to have indicated they’ll be there and on the same day, later on the Democrats will be having their picnic. Long gone are those $50.00 a plate Democratic party dinners and fundraisers held at the Woodlands. Let’s hope for great weather.
Katsock has secured both nominations but Grinaway is facing off against the former school district employee looking for another place to land with the other district cronies on the board. Oh, the guy has purple signs which if you care about the district, feel free to ignore.

RICK IS A GREAT GUY AND WAS A REALLY GOOD INFIELDER WITH THE ORIGINAL KILLER BEES. THE BEES WERE NAMED AFTER THE BEEHIVE SYMBOL OF THE CITY. THE TEAM ROSTER GOT SO BIG THAT BILL BRACE, THE COMMISSIONER FLOATED A PLAN TO HAVE VARIOUS PLAYERS GO ON DIFFERENT TEAMS. THAT'S HOW THE LADY KILLERS, THE RIVERSIDE RATS AND A FEW OTHERS CAME TO BE. SO THE LADY KILLERS EXISTED BECAUSE OF THE KILLER BEES. OUR COLORS WERE RED AND GOLD.
