TALE OF TWO TEACHERS
Big news this week when a 31 year old female teacher from Wyoming Valley West was charged with having inappropriate relationships with a male student at the high school. She’s a hottie but not a very smart one to put her trust in a dumbass that would have messages from her sent to him or his sister on his mom’s laptop. This thing has all the makings of a very bad porn movie.
On the other hand, another 31 year old teacher made the paper but it wasn’t page one. This teacher who fought a long battle with MS was beloved by her students an served as an inspiration for those she taught despite her obvious disability. This teacher was on the obituary page.
Defenders of the 31 year old hottie say she had problems like Crohn’s disease and other maladies that made her do the things she is alleged to have done. I will not minimize Crohn’s disease but is this a defense?
In the meantime, the teacher who died after a long battle with MS will no longer be news. But she will be remembered by those she tried to educate and inspire….not degrade.
CHRISTMAS CRAZY
No it’s not the theme song for the last few days before the big day, but it is a song you might want to download on Amazon.com. Sung by Mark True, “Christmas Crazy” is written by one of our faithful readers and posters. Check it out, he gets a nickel for every download. And he’s a local guy that has written his share of decent songs.WINTER WONDERLAND
Don’t forget every time you hear “Winter Wonderland”, that it was written by Dick Smith. Smith was a lyricist from Honesdale who wrote the song. But it became a success after he died. A LuLac reader tells me his dad was an acquaintance of Mr. Smith and visited him at the old West Side Sanatorium. Smith had TB.HANK WILLIAMS 60 YEARS ON
Can’t close out the year without mentioning that iconic country singer Hank Williams. Williams died 60 years ago and made his mark on American pop culture. His death is still the stalk of legend and speculation. Here an account from Wikipedia:Williams was scheduled to perform at the Municipal Auditorium in Charleston, West Virginia on Wednesday December 31, 1952. Advance ticket sales totaled US$3,500. That day, because of an ice storm in the Nashville area, Williams could not fly, so he hired a college student, Charles Carr, to drive him to the concerts. Carr called the Charleston auditorium from Knoxville to say that Williams would not arrive on time owing to the ice storm and was ordered to drive Williams to Canton, Ohio, for the New Year's Day concert there.]
They arrived at the Andrew Johnson Hotel in Knoxville, Tennessee, where Carr requested a doctor for Williams, as he was feeling the combination of the chloral hydrate and alcohol he had drunk on the way from Montgomery to Knoxville.Dr. P.H. Cardwell injected Williams with two shots of vitamin B12 that also contained a quarter-grain of morphine. Carr and Williams checked out of the hotel, the porters had to carry Williams to the car, as he was coughing and hiccupping. At around midnight on Thursday January 1, 1953, when they crossed the Tennessee state line and arrived in Bristol, Virginia, Carr stopped at a small all-night restaurant and asked Williams if he wanted to eat. Williams said he did not, and those are believed to be his last words. Carr later drove on until he stopped for fuel at a gas station in Oak Hill, West Virginia, where he realized that Williams was dead. The filling station's owner called the chief of the local police. In Williams' Cadillac the police found some empty beer cans and unfinished handwritten lyrics.

Big deal about the WVW teacher/student issue. He is 18. Even if he is only 17, he is old enough to go get blown up by an IED in one of the Bush/Omamba wars, and we are gonna make an event because he was tagging some fine, hot pussy? Please.
I think this more reflects of how lacking in manhood her husband must be.
And, if it is the Crohns, it isn't the disease but the medicaition. Many of the drugs can have phsycological effects, but I still say it was probably husband not man enough, I mean come on he owns an dance studio, can't be too masculine
The Williams driver ironically named Carr died recently without ever telling the "real" story of Hanks death. The facts are lost to history now and forever, but some parts of the tale never checked out. What they call Country Music today makes GNashville and the music biz a bundle every year, but the truth is
They've got Hank to thank for the money in the bank in Music City!
One "Too-pretty-for-prison" defense coming right up.
Hey Dave-
I dont believe in God but I do believe in Santa. What does that make me other than an obvious target for religion crazed posters. I donate to charities regularly and make a special effort to make Christmas special for at least a few kids. I wish I could afford to do more. Whatever color a kid wants him to be Santa is Santa.
Merry Christmas to all...
Considering that the President has suspended the ObamaCare Individual Mandates may I suggest:
1. Eliminate Health Insurance Mandates
There are mandates in place requiring employers to buy health insurance for employees. These laws have been in place for some time. Now they have been extended to individual people. Under Obamacare, anyone who doesn’t have health insurance will face fines. These fines will be levied against income tax refunds, which means that all or some of your refund may be intercepted to pay for your fines. Some employers can be fined and penalized in other ways for similar reasons as well. The government says these mandates exist to spread out the costs, which is supposed to make them lower for everyone.
Here’s the problem: The individual mandate stifles competition between health insurance providers. If everyone is required by law to purchase insurance, why would providers try to offer affordable rates? They are guaranteed a decent amount of business, especially if they are featured on one of the state- or federal-run health insurance exchanges. You don’t have to be an expert in economics to know that competition benefits consumers the most. It helps to keep costs in check. Health insurance providers have no real incentive to be competitive with their pricing under this system.
Another pitfall to the individual mandate is that it costs people money and doesn’t give them anything in return. When people are forced to pay fines for not having health insurance, they have even less money than before. It’s even harder for them to get ahead or to pay for the most basic medical care. In turn, they are more likely to put off seeing doctors for checkups, which means they are more likely to end up in the emergency room. Taxpayers must then pay for their care, and everyone’s costs increase even more. It’s a vicious cycle, and the individual mandate helps to keep it spinning right along.
The individual mandate never should have been a part of healthcare reform. The idea that it helps to spread out costs is misguided. Right this instant, the government could do a lot to reduce healthcare costs by eliminating this mandate. At the same time, similar mandates for employers should be eliminated too. After all, when employers are forced to buy insurance, they simply pass the cost along to their employees. Those employees then have less money, and they are more likely to get sucked into the same old vicious cycle.
2. Let People Buy Insurance Across State Lines
As it stands right now, you have to buy insurance from a provider that is authorized in the state in which you reside. There is no clear reason for this rule; it’s pretty arbitrary. Because of this rule, people who live just a few miles apart from one another can pay drastically different prices for the same level of healthcare. This is especially infuriating in areas like Tennessee, that borders 8 other states, and, you can drive through several states in a matter of hours. Why should a person who lives in one geographic area get to pay way less than someone who lives across the state line?
According to a 2013 Heritage Foundation study, a person in their fifties in Tennessee pays an average of $278 per month for health insurance. The same person in Arkansas would pay $215 per month for the same type of policy. This is a difference of $756 per year. It just highlights how random healthcare costs can be. Why shouldn’t a person who lives in Tennessee be able to buy a policy from a company in Arkansas? In fact, in 15 states, insurance costs LESS than in Tennessee.
By allowing people to buy health insurance outside of the states in which they live, the government could quickly encourage a lot more competition between providers. When health insurance companies know that people can shop around in different states, they will be less likely to needlessly gouge people. Furthermore, it wouldn’t be difficult at all for people to check prices in various states. Health insurance companies would have no choice but to reduce their rates. The only alternative would be going out of business because who’s going to pay thousands of dollars more per year for the same type of coverage?
3. Require Pricing to be Transparent
If you needed treatment for a broken leg tomorrow, do you know how much it would cost? Chances are that you don’t, and that’s true of just about any type of medical treatment. It’s one of the many reasons that healthcare is so expensive in our country. Hospitals and doctors in the same town can charge markedly different prices, and there’s no easy way for people to find out ahead of time. When you desperately need medical care, you’re not going to have the time to call around asking for prices.
Considering how important medical care is and how pricey it can be, it makes all kinds of sense to allow healthcare providers to be completely open about pricing. Ideally, you should be able to do a search online to find out how much a procedure will cost. It may never get to that point, but healthcare providers should be able to provide clear information about pricing when patients request it. As it stands, prices are shrouded in mystery, and patients are often charged far too much. Insurance companies are billed too much too, which increases healthcare costs for everyone even more.
I don’t claim to have all of the detailed answers, but I have an effective answer, that WILL work. I know that healthcare is something that everyone should be able to afford. Costs have gone through the roof in the United States, and the government has the power to reverse this troubling trend. Obamacare isn’t the answer. Requiring people to have insurance isn’t the answer. Complicated healthcare reform solutions aren’t the answer. In the end, it could be that very simple changes implemented by the government can make all of the difference in the world. If one good thing comes out of Obamacare, perhaps it will be more open discussion of implementing these changes.
Brilliant 6:19 Attack the husband because the wife screws up. I am surprised Yonki even posted your stone age asshole remarks! Ever hear of Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire or Barishnikov? They got more women than you could ever dream of and at least two of them could kick your ass around the block, moron!
Yonki ... Yonki ... Yonki !!!
Where the hell do you get some of these goofs?
Hey 6:19, I love dancing and even took ballroom dancing and I wqould love to meet you face to face....... I thin I ust might dance all over you.
Nobody asked me, but after reading the "commentary" reactions to the citizen's voice "valley santa" and the times leader's sister project in their respective publications, no one can tell me this valley has a heart.
I have never read such cruel words in the face of such real tragedy.
Sadly, most of these folks probably are the ones who scream the loudest ifa manjor scene is not displayed.
As Jesus said, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do."
As for the teacher at Valley West, well there is no doubt that the 17 year old boy will not be traumatized from his experiences. But to all those who state this is no big deal, thye need to take a breath.
A teacher is in a position of responsiblity and lines are there that must not be crossed. No doubt this woman's career is over (especially in light of her confession). ANd would these people who cheer the boy and her on feel the same if it were a 31 year old male teacher adn a 17 year old female student???? NO.
Let us hope the double standard does not transfer to our court system in respect to this case. She should be handed the same punishment that a male would receive. End of story.
Though she probably will not.
Bless You All
ANd a Merry Christmas!!
6:19, while crude is right on the money.
Ask yonk, men cheat because they are hounds, women cheat because they are missing something.
If they aren't getting attention and affection they engage in long term affairs.
If they aren't getting sexually satisified, they go out and have random sex.
2:42 and your source for this information is? Sounds like you just pulled it out of your ass! There are no hound dog women? I beg to differ!
Its easy to see you havent been around much.
Until we all admit that the temptation to have sex with students exists and must be actively suppressed by adults, until we all admit that parents who allow their children to go to school dressed in provocative clothing: these incidents WILL continue.
From my experience 2:42 is accurate.
I have been exclusivily "dating" married women since my college years, so about 15 years or so. And, they cheat because they are missing something, but they don't want to leave for whatever reason.
Of course, the more well off or connected the husband, the less they want to leave, which has been great for me... no realationship bullshit.
