The LuLac Edition #2570, December 26th, 2013

KING’S AND GAMING REVENUE
(Photo, Dreamsure.com).
So the other day the Citizen’s Voice reported that the Wilkes Barre City Council was endorsing the fact that the school could apply for funding for the renovation project of the Ramada. Really?
There were other worthy projects named to benefit the taxpayer like money to renovate athletic and recreational facilities at Kirby Park. Plus a grant for the Wilkes Barre Police Department to buy a fingerprint identification system in this crime ridden city. It is needed because right now Wilkes Barre is borrowing from other municipalities. This benefits EVERYBODY in the city not just the sacred cow institution of King’s.
Gaming revenue was set up to reduce property taxes not to ease the pain of businesses or institutions that are choosing to expend. Will the King’s facility be good for the downtown? Sure it will but why should gaming revenue even be considered for a school that makes money. Gaming revenue is for property tax relief as well as for worthy projects that do not have funding streams to exist. It seems like Tony George is the only person on Council who “gets” the fact that non profits and private business big wigs asking for gaming welfare should not be considered.
If gaming revenue goes toward the school to expand its little empire,(they already took over part of South Franklin Street during the Leighton administration, it will be a clear sign that something is terribly wrong with the way money is distributed.

MUSTO DEBATE CONTINUES

Ray Musto in better days. (Photo: LuLac archives).
The debate over the health of former State Senator Ray Musto continues. An Attorney representing Musto said that his client needed “recovery” days because his illness was putting him in a weakened state. The former State Representative, Congressman and State Senator is reported to have non alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. A big bone of contention will be the interview Musto conducted with the Citizen’s Voice in which he said on video that his comments were off the record . Look for this story to bleed over in 2014 to see if Judge Richard Caputo, the Federal Judge hearing this case believes Musto is too weak or is strong enough to endure a trial.

1976

During the week between Christmas and New Year’s in 1976, the late singer Dan Folgleberg ran into an old girl friend by chance. That encounter became a hit song for him a few years later called "Same Old Lang Syne"

In Pennsylvania, Senator Elect John Heinz gets ready to join his fellow Republican Richard Schweiker as a United States Senator. Heinz bested Bill Green in the ’76 Election….and in Luzerne County, Commissioners Steve Yanoshak and Ed Wideman comment on the convictions earlier in the year of a few Pittston Area School Directors who were convicted of kickback charges with masonry, maintenance supply and sporting good vendors. Both Commissioners said the action of the men convicted, two who had Count jobs should not reflect on the integrity of the Courthouse work force and as 1976 ended the number one song in America and LuLac land was “I Wish” from Stevie Wonder’s “Songs In the Key Of Life” album.

Dave, just a hunch. Is the girl in the first picture blowing on the dice. Did you get that thought from the Frank Sinatra song?
