The older I get the more I believe Dr. King would be disappointed in how his philosophy has been derailed and diluted by those who co-opted his movement. His sons and daughters have been marginalized because they have not joined the phonies-in-charge. Still, like their father, they persist against the tyranny of those who promote false interpretations of his "teachings" in order to gain power by promoting the very same characteristics he railed against: intolerance, underlying suspicions, selfishness, racial and economic skepticism, reliance on gods rather than God, and in general promoting events that distract and deflect from the purity and purpose of his message.

In Wilkes-Barre, the NAACP deemed to boycott the MLK Day festivities until the city makes it a holiday. Were I the mayor, I would have cancelled all MLK Day programs, if their own people were not going to acknowledge it.
But I guess they are damned if they do, and damed if they don't.

IN RESPONSE

I agree. And I don't think Dr. King would endorse traveling drug deals who father multiple kids with multiple mothers and shoot each other.
THEN when they do shoot each other, they won't cooperate with police to bring justice to the victim.
He'd be rolling over in his grave.
I also believe that King Day should be accompanied by a Civil Rights heroes component and that school should be in session.

IN RESPONSE

Yeah if they are going to boycott something, why not boycott all the unsolved murders of their own community.
Mayor Leighton went to the unions 11 times and they said no.
Tony George is in office less than two weeks and they're mad at him? Boycott the unions who tie the hands of every Mayor and Council. 14 holidays????
Boycott that for Christ sake.

Yeah but then you let their ignorance win and deny those who want to honor Dr. King their chance to do so.
Martin Luther King was a hero to all races. I understand how you feel but my reaction would be to make a bigger and better celebration to give a fitting tribute to the man instead of just throwing a fit that accomplishes nothing.
