MAYBE I’M AMAZED

LUZERNE COUNTY EN MASSE RESIGNATIONS EDITION 

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…. but not really…. that the front-page Times Leader article in Sunday’s paper regarding the Luzerne County GOP tumult was quite clear in its message. Every single successful Republican in NEPA, Barletta, Baker, Kaufer, Lombardo and Griffith had nothing but praise for the leadership abilities of P.J. Pribula and Joe Valenti. This tells you something when the successful faces of the party of Lincoln do not endorse the malcontents and highly praise the work and progress of the GOP.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…. that the exception to the rule was the lack of response from Congressman Dan Meuser. Ut is clear that Meuser has thrown in his lot with the crazies.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that Meuser, a onetime state Revenue Secretary and successful businessman has decided to side with the most ignorant and non-democratic element of the grand old party. Meuser dis not vote to certify President Biden’s win in 2021 but certainly didn’t argue about his own victory. He, like most Republicans cited massive vote fraud by the Democrats but the only fraud in this county (the Lu) came from Republicans. People (in and out of the party) thought Meuser was better than this, but they (and I) were wrong.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that those anti Biden flags are sold to unpatriotic morons by unpatriotic morons all in the name of free speech.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that regular thinking people cannot understand why there is no unity in the Republican ranks when in 2016 they won the Presidency, the Senate, the House and had control of the Pa State Legislature. Well of course there was the lack of understanding Donald Trump had in how to govern. But let me give you a local example. In 2020, Joe Biden won Lackawanna County. Trump won Luzerne County. But what Election Bureau had pick up trucks with Trump and Confederate flags on them, tractor trailers included circling Park Place (up and down State Street in Wilkes-Barre) but Trump supporters. Why protest and spout election fraud in a county Trump won instead of the one he did not? I mean that makes no sense.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that this fringe group along with the challenger group think the powers that be, the brokers who have the cash on hand will actually pony up money to fill their coffers up so they can get their message out? Will these new guys have “the juice” to get funding for future races to maintain the offices they won just a few years back? Even though the people in the TL article had their own opinions, you can bet that those long-time silent power brokers wouldn’t disagree with their diagnosis of success under Pribula and Valenti.Are these life long Republicans going to tarnish their local party of Bill Scranton, Red Jones, Jim Haggerty, Jim Phillips Bill Scranton III, Joe McDade, Frank Coslett, Charlie Lemonnd, Frank O'Connellm Corey Stevensd  and rational others like them with these clowns?

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…. that the fringe crazies call any Republican now towing the Trump line RINOs. Really? Are Barletta, Baker, Kaufer, Lombardo and Griffith RINOs? But did you call Pribula and Valenti (two very staunch Republicans) RINOs because you cannot get your way? Would the late Congressman Jim Nelligan or Joe McDade be considered a RINO? This message by these two groups is saying, "Let's get back to the days of infighting primaries and the hell with winning the General. Really?

MAYBE I’M AMAZED……and this is the big one folks is County Councilman Harry Haas calling for “unity” and accuses Pribula of blowing up the party on his way out the door. That is rich! The party was unified UNTIL Haas and the other faction decided to split it up. You tell me what was wrong with the party when it held the DA’s office, when it gained   a GOP victory in the Controller’s office and snagged two Judgeships in one election!!! Haas et all have no record of that kind of winning. I guess people forgot how Haas got creamed in a Congressional primary. Unity? Now that’s a real joke that I see no justification in this whole mess.

 MAYBE I’M AMAZED…. the Luzerne County Republican party, without Pribula, Valenti and the rest of those who resigned will revert to the days when they’d rather fight than be right. After the Democrats took control in 1967 the County GOP became non-existent. The reason there was resounding success with this group was because they recognized that there was always middle ground. But with a Congressman (Meuser) who voted against the numbers of 2020 for the Presidency, (but not his own and two other state row offices) and an election board member (Alyssa Fusaro) who has been clearly partisan, this party that was gaining on registrations and wins will be replaced by leadership and philosophy that is too extreme, too mean and blatantly undemocratic. I am reminded of a Karl Marx saying, “"History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce."   This is both.
