RECONCILIATION BILL 

 

 

SIGNED INTO LAW.

. Josh Shapiro is criticizing Pennsylvania Republicans who voted in favor of the reconciliation bill signed into law late last week by President Donald Trump, saying the commonwealth “got screwed.”

“It breaks my heart after all the progress we’ve made that the federal government, with one vote, ripped a good chunk of that away,” he said. “I hope that the representatives wake up and see the negative impact that they are having on our commonwealth.”

Speaking in York Monday, Shapiro said the consequences of the vote, “to give a tax cut to those at the highest income brackets and pay for it by slashing Medicaid and SNAP and harming rural hospitals,” hang on the commonwealth’s nine House members and GOP U.S. Senator Dave McCormick for their action.

“They knew what they were voting for. They voted for it,” he said. “Pennsylvania can’t backfill this. We don’t have the money to do it. I warned these members of Congress that we couldn’t do it, and so the cuts that are about to come are coming as a direct result of how your federal representatives voted here.”

“They’re taking billions of dollars away from Pennsylvania, and we can’t make up for that,” he added.

The governor warned the commonwealth’s rural hospitals could be atrisk, since the measure cuts more than $1 trillion from Medicaid. According to an analysis by the nonprofit health policy group KFF, payments to hospitals or nursing facilities would probably decrease in at least 29 states.

“We have about 25 rural hospitals that are both working with an operating deficit, where about 50% or more of their revenues are coming from public payer, right, coming from Medicaid,” he said. “If you’re already facing a deficit and your Medicaid is being slashed, we estimate that there’s about 25 rural hospitals that are likely to shutter in the next few years because of this.”

The state Department of Human Services says cuts could result in more than 310,000 Pennsylvanians losing Medicaid coverage. Some 270,000 could lose access to marketplace plans or face steep premium increases.

But, Rep. Dan Meuser (R-09), who is considering a run for governor next year, said the new law strengthens Medicaid “for those it was intended to support.”

“It includes common-sense work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents, removes individuals who are ineligible under the law from the rolls, and, beginning in October 2026, it ends the federal cost-share for states that choose to include illegal immigrants in their Medicaid programs,” he said in a statement. “It also delivers support for rural health care, creating a $50 billion fund to help rural hospitals and ensure continued access to care.”

According to the Associated Press, advocates for rural hospitals warn the funds won’t make up for the shortage. A recent American Hospital Association report found in 2023, hospitals received nearly $28 billion less from Medicaid than the actual cost of treating Medicaid patients.

Refusing to answer straight questions about the state of Texas' preparedness for the flood, Governor Greg "ship the dark skinned out" Abbott used a football analogy to deflect from his incompetence as well as the innate cheapness of the state.

"Any size community they care about football, high school, Friday Night lights, college football, or pro. Know this, every football team makes mistakes," Abbott said. "The losing teams are the ones trying to point out who's to blame. The championship teams are the ones who say, 'don't worry about it, man. We got this.'" "The way winners talk is not to point fingers. They talk about solutions," Abbott said. "What Texas is all about is solutions."

Winners? This stupid son of a bitch doesn't realize what HE LOST. What his so-called government lost. 

160 people who went to bed assuming they were safe to rest and dream but instead got drowned in flash floods. The first responsibility of a Governor is to protect its people. Abbott and his cerew DID NOT.  HE LOST LIVES. 

Now Abbott says committees will be formed to try to find solutions.  He pawns all of this on a committee.  Maybe the first solution is to get rid of him.

Why do people who work for ICE have to wear masks?   The party line from the head thug, Tom Lowhman tells us that it for their safety. Okay, let me get this straight. They are armed, they are bigger than most and obviously trained. Some are former police and military. But all of a sudden they are "ascared?" You've got to be kidding me.

We ae fast becomig a police state and people of color are the targets. There is a single minded assault on people who look different.

A friendly reminder. All people of color ARE NOT ILLEGALS

When these neanderthals approach a vehicle, there is no need to wreck the windshield.  This administration has shown proof that they can't seperate the god from the bad. The only common denunciator of any thing related to ICE employees is that those who are racists are now more emboldened than ever.

We usually give them leeway to get their footing. But the actions and duplicity of Rob Bresnahan has caused the Times Tribune to take this action. As I stated, you have to boldly try to talk yourself out of a lie to get this treatment.

Joe Soprano was the editor of The Times Leader in Wilks-Barre for years. He was rational, fair and cared about his community.  Sadly, he passed away this week at the all too young age of 58. He will be missed.

RACE RIOTS 

JULY 1967 

Race riots broke out all across the United States in the red-hot summer of 1967. It first started in Newark. after the arrest of an African-American cab driver for allegedly illegally driving around a police car and gunning it down the road, lasting 5 days and leaving 26 dead.  Then near Newark, in Plainfield, New Jersey more riots took place a few days later.

A prison riot in Jay, Florida with 37 dead. Another race riot breaks out in the North Side of Minneapolis on Plymouth Street during the city Aqua centennial  Parade; businesses are vandalized and fires break out in the area, although the disturbance is quelled within hours. However, the next day a shooting sets off another incident in the same area that leads to 18 fires, 36 arrests, 3 shootings, 2 dozen people injured, and damages totaling 4.2 million. Two more such incidents occur during the following two weeks, in Detroit, one of the worst riots in United States history begins on 12th Street in the predominantly  African American  inner city: 43 are killed, 342 injured and 1,400 buildings burned.......the riots increased tensions between the races in the country after meaningful legislation was passed by Congress at the urging of President Johnson and the number one song in LuLac land and America was "Windy" by The Association.
