FOOD-TASTIC

NEWS

HOT DOGS

WE FORGOT THE MAJESTIC

Last week when we were reviewing local hot dog places, we failed to mention The Majestic Lunch in Pittston. A reader pointed out that we neglected to recognize it. This restaurant has been around since the 1920s and remains a favorite for its classic offerings. The service is consistently exceptional, with friendly staff and fast service, creating a welcoming atmosphere for families. The food, including the Texas burger with traditional "Greek sauce," cheese steak, burgers, hot dogs, and fries, is delicious and very affordable. Everything is freshly made right before customers' eyes, with no microwaves in sight. The interior may be outdated, but it includes split booths, non-alcoholic drinks, and wheelchair accessibility, making it suitable for everyone. There is even a chalkboard wall for kids, enhancing the family-friendly environment. With pictures of iconic figures like John Kennedy and Robert Kennedy adorning the walls, Majestic Lunch offers an authentic experience that keeps customers coming back. Overall, it is a local favorite for its great food, service, and affordability.

The Texas Cheese wiener as well as the Chili Cheese dogs are fan favorites. The restaurant is community minded and is a gathering place for politicos in the area. This summer Vice President J.D. Vance paid a visit.

Now current President Judge Stefanie Salavantis when she was D.A. had fund raising events for the community.

The place is open 8am to 3pm Monday thru Saturday T 20 South Main Street.

THE LITTLE PIE THAT COULD!

If you want to eat healthy and enjoy a Lebanese delight, I recommend a spinach pie. It is a simple but delicious dish consisting of salt, flour, yeast, water, spinach, onion, lemon juice, salad oil, salt and water. Locally they are made by Atie’s Bakery on Hazle Street in Wilkes-Barre.

However you can find them in Schiel’s Markets in Parsons and South Wilkes-Barre. The bakery delivers them Tuesday and Friday. They are the cost of a Big Mac but much more healthier.

KRAFT-HEINZ MERGER

Kraft Heinz will split into two companies, reversing much of the blockbuster $46 billion merger from a decade ago that created one of the biggest food companies in the world.

The first of the two new companies, which are not yet named, will primarily include shelf-stable meals and will be home to brands such as Heinz, Philadelphia and Kraft mac and cheese. Kraft Heinz said that company on its own would have $15.4 billion in 2024 net sales, and approximately 75% of those sales would come from sauces, spreads and seasonings.

Kraft Heinz said the second new company would be a “scaled portfolio of North America staples” and would include items such as Oscar Mayer, Kraft singles and Lunchables. That company would have had approximately $10.4 billion in 2024 net sales.

“Kraft Heinz’s brands are iconic and beloved, but the complexity of our current structure makes it challenging to allocate capital effectively, prioritize initiatives and drive scale in our most promising areas,” said Miguel Patricio, executive chair of the board for Kraft Heinz. “By separating into two companies, we can allocate the right level of attention and resources to unlock the potential of each brand to drive better performance and the creation of long-term shareholder value.”

The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026.
