MARK CARNEY SET TO SNATCH NOBEL PEACE PRIZE FROM TRUMP

Carney accuses Trump of weaponizing trade

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney surfaced as a top contender for the Nobel Peace Prize on the prediction market Kalshi ahead of Donald Trump.

Carney led or closely trailed major humanitarian organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms in betting odds.

Carney has openly criticized Trump's foreign policy and tariff threats, asserting Canadian sovereignty against American trade restrictions.

Trade tensions between the two allies have escalated sharply, with Trump placing 50 percent tariffs on Canadian imports and Canada responding with dollar-for-dollar tariffs.

Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration over being passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize while simultaneously initiating a military conflict with Iran.

TRUMP’S SLURRED, CONFUSED OVAL OFFICE ANNOUNCEMENT REALLY SHOULD CONCERN REPUBLICANS

THE PRESIDENT SEEMED LIKE HE WAS STRUGGLING, WRITES HOLLY BAXTER, AND THROUGH THE STRUGGLE HE FORGOT TO CLAIM THAT THE IRAN WAR ISN’T A WAR AND THAT THE $5,000 MIDTERMS PAYMENT ISN’T A MASS VOTER BRIBE

rumors swirled on Monday morning when the White House announced that President Trump would make a mystery announcement at 2 pm. Coming just after his private dinner with Anthropic CEO Dario Amadei — and a few days spent with Chinese leader Xi Jinping — would this have something to do with AI and trade, regulation and globalization? Or perhaps, considering the ongoing war with Iran, an announcement of a turning point?

I’ll save your bated breath. By lunchtime, it was clear: Trump was just going to talk about a steel plant.

So why the bells and whistles, the secrecy and the big gathering in the Oval Office? Well, because what Trump talks about when he talks about steel plants is the midterms. And what everybody else talks about when they talk about the midterms is gas prices and grocery prices and all those other things that everyday Americans actually care about and are daily confronted with.

The problem with Trump is that so much of his secret sauce is the energy behind his bombast — when he rapid-fires out nicknames and insults, it’s shocking, it’s weird and creative and it’s often funny; when he gets himself worked up about the Democrats or the issues facing the country, his rage is infectious. But the Trump of the past few months has become slower and slurrier, and has started reading verbatim off a large, laminated binder with extra-large type font on it.

e surrounded himself with administration sycophants, a couple of senators and some business leaders, and mumbled about how Minnesota has “one of the worst governors in history. A real stupid guy.” It wasn’t exactly an astute observation or a particularly cutting insult.

He trailed off, then picked up at the usual stuff about “the best economy we’ve ever had” and repeated his odd promise to effectively pay people to vote Republican in the midterms by adding that he’ll give “$5,000 to every adult, and we can do it and the Democrats can’t because the Democrats don’t have any income”. That wasn’t the most corruption-proof way to phrase it, to put it lightly, and he was fully slurring at this point.

Trump then turned the page on his binder and read out: “So two years ago our country was dead and now we have the hottest country of anywhere in the world and it’s not even close.” He’s said this exact, semi-coherent phrase at least four or five times in recent appearances, which I presumed was his best approximation of a boast off the top of his head. What’s surprising is that he clearly chooses to keep such a facile sentence typed out in front of him, lest he forget such eye-opening words of wisdom.

The rounding out of the press conference was painful to watch: a very low-energy rant about how “the press is not — nobody hears that we have more people working than ever in our country! Nobody hears that we have the best poverty numbers!” He moved into “one of my people who’s very good said, ‘Sir, people don't care about the border anymore,’ but I got elected on the border.” It was very ‘grandpa reminiscing about the good old days,’ except the good old days are happening right now and they’re not good but he’s certainly old.

Like with all things Trump, there were no push backs and unverified garbage from a very weak man who is losing it. Karma can be a bitch and Trump’s day is coming when the façade will complete its cracking. (Independent, LuLac)

MASSIVE DATA CENTER DEVELOPER IS OFFERING $10K TO RESIDENTS IN THIS SMALL PENNSYLVANIA COMMUNITY. LOCALS ARE PUSHING BACK

THE PENNSYLVANIA DISPUTE COMES AS COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE PUSH BACK AGAINST DATA CENTERS, WHICH POWER AI SYSTEMS BUT CONSUME VAST AMOUNTS OF ELECTRICITY, LAND AND OTHER RESOURCES

THE HAZEL TWP STORY

A Pennsylvania developer is offering every eligible household in a small township $10,000 if a massive data center project moves forward – but many residents still aren’t sold.

NorthPoint Development wants to build a 1,300-acre data center campus in Hazle Township, near the Pocono foothills, with as many as 15 data center buildings and other infrastructure, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The company outlined the offer in letters sent to residents in June, setting aside about $45 million for roughly 4,500 households. Residents could spend the money however they choose, but only if the project reaches the required stage. NorthPoint expects the first data center to receive its certificate of occupancy in late 2027, triggering the payments, according to the WSJ. “$10,000 doesn’t match how much it’s going to tank my property value,” Fasnacht said.

Retired homeowner Ed Negra said the offer could backfire by encouraging residents to scrutinize the project's potential drawbacks.

“I think it works the opposite way, because most people have the opinion that, ‘Hey, are they trying to bribe us here?’” he said.

NorthPoint chief marketing officer Brent Miles said the payments were created after a public meeting last year, when residents pressed the company on what they would personally gain from the project.  (MSN)

MEASLES UPDATE

943 IN PENNSYLVANIA

Asswipe MAGA parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids are to blame for the outbreak of measles in the Commonwealth. This is serious shit. The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) today reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that an unvaccinated resident of Lancaster County tested positive for measles and has died.

This is the fifth Pennsylvanian who meets the measles-associated death definition as the number of confirmed measles cases stands at 943 across 39 counties so far in 2026. The death will be added to DOH’s measles dashboard later today.

To protect the privacy of the individual and their family, DOH will not release any additional details that could personally identify them. DOH is bound by laws that limit what can be shared publicly, and families deserve the dignity to mourn in private. DOH continues to lead Pennsylvania’s robust response to the ongoing measles outbreak and is making the most up-to-date information on cases, hospitalizations, and deaths available on its measles dashboard.

ROB BRESNAHAN’S NEW AD “MISLEADING AT BEST” ACCORDING TO LOCAL FACT CHECK

THE NEW AD IS “MISLEADING AT BEST” AND “ETHICALLY QUESTIONABLE” ACCORDING TO LOCAL “AD WATCH” STORY; 28/22 AND WVIA ALSO CALL OUT BRESNAHAN’S FALSE CLAIMS

Rob Bresnahan has once again been caught lying to the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania. New reporting from several local outlets, including an ad fact check from the Scranton Times-Tribune and stories from 28/22 and WVIA, highlight the falsehoods in Rob’s new ad.

The Times-Tribune calls Bresnahan’s ad “misleading at best” and “ethically questionable” after he deceptively edited audio from a local news report to make it appear as though a reporter said something different than what they actually said. They noted “several claims in the ad, as well as an altered sound bite from Hiller, insisting those fees ended due to Trump’s order are false.”

28/22 reported that Bresnahan altered audio from their broadcast “to produce a different message than was originally reported.”

And WVIA reported that the executive order Bresnahan is trying to take credit for “does not actually end a stormwater management fee some Luzerne County communities pay to help clean up the Chesapeake Bay watershed.”

“If Rob Bresnahan had a record he could defend, he wouldn’t have to fabricate one. Local media are calling out his dishonesty and now his campaign has gone so far as to alter a local news anchor’s words to mislead us. Meanwhile, his actual record is catching up with him: higher health care costs and sky-high prices,” said campaign spokesperson Emma Mustion. “People here deserve honesty and results, not a congressman more focused on his stock portfolio than the people he was elected to serve.”

Read more about Rob Bresnahan’s false claims below:

Scranton Times-Tribune: 8TH DISTRICT AD WATCH: ‘Rain tax’ claims murky, ethically questionable, in Bresnahan ad

Key claim: Bresnahan says he and President Trump ended the federal rain tax mandate, with parallel claims that they “ended the rain tax.”

Is it factual? The ad is misleading at best.

Trump indeed signed an executive order on Sept. 16 that revoked the Chesapeake Bay Protection and Restoration order signed in 2009 by then-President Barack Obama. So, Bresnahan’s claim that the federal rain tax mandate was ended is accurate.

What the ad left muddied is the reality that ending the mandate and ending the tax are two very different things.

Several claims in the ad, as well as an altered sound bite from Hiller, insisting those fees ended due to Trump’s order are false.

WBRE and WYOU pointed out that the clip used from their 6 p.m. news broadcast on Sept. 16 was “altered to produce a different message than was originally reported.”

On his Facebook account, Hiller wrote, “Let me just say that editing a soundbite to fit a narrative is something I do not do professionally and would never teach to any of my college students. Ethics matter.” A Bresnahan spokeswoman told the stations the clip was “shortened for brevity” for the ad; However, it changed the fundamental reporting of the story.

WVIA: ‘Rain tax’ executive order signed by President Trump does not cancel stormwater fees for Luzerne County communities

President Donald Trump’s executive order to end the federal “rain tax” mandate, signed last week as U.S. Rep Rob Bresnahan Jr. watched, does not actually end a stormwater management fee some Luzerne County communities pay to help clean up the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

That’s according to the agency that levies the fee.

“At this time, President Trump’s recent executive order does not eliminate WVSA’s [Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority] stormwater fee or change the requirements currently in place for participating municipalities,” the authority said in a statement. “State law still requires municipalities to manage stormwater runoff and reduce pollution entering local streams and waterways.”

In Luzerne County, 32 municipalities voted to meet those Chesapeake Bay obligations through stormwater fees collected by the WVSA.

The authority says most property owners pay $14.40 per quarter or $57.60 per year for regional stormwater services.

“Instead of those funds going to fix roads or support our local police and fire departments, that money goes to meet a pollution requirement aimed at cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay more than 200 miles away,” Bresnahan said.

WVSA says the stormwater fees do go towards many local initiatives, including street sweeping and removing roadway debris, municipal catch basin replacement, repair, cleaning and maintenance; and storm sewer piping replacement, system cleaning, flushing and maintenance, among other projects.

The authority also says $1 million per year is reimbursed to the 32 municipalities to invest in their stormwater infrastructure. (Cognetti website)

SHAPIRO ADMINISTRATION CELEBRATES 'GOVERNOR'S BREAKFAST CHAMPIONS' AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD

State officials, nutrition leaders, educators, cheerleaders, and mascot SWOOP gather at Lincoln Financial Field to recognize the Governors Breakfast Champions, honoring the top 10 Pennsylvania schools with the highest participation in the Governors School Breakfast Challenge.

Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Dr. Carrie Rowe and Agriculture Deputy Secretary for Farm, Food, and Market Access Heidi Secord were joined by the American Dairy Association North East (ADANE), Philadelphia Eagles legends and cheerleaders, as well as Eagles mascot SWOOP to celebrate the Governor's School Breakfast Champions during an event at Lincoln Financial Field. The Breakfast Champions represented the top ten schools with the greatest participation in the third annual Governor's School Breakfast Challenge.

The Challenge recognizes schools for increasing participation in school breakfast to set students up for success and implementing sustainable changes that incorporate more nutritious and local foods in their meal offerings, including prioritizing low-sugar and locally sourced options.

"Investing in the wellness of students is more than just dollars and cents, it's the commitment of school administrators and employees to finding creative ways to provide meals that are nutritious, locally sourced, and taste good," said Secretary of Education Dr. Carrie Rowe. "The benefits of starting your day with a healthy meal are well known, and because of the Shapiro Administration's investments in free breakfast, students across the Commonwealth-no matter where they live-can receive those benefits every day."

THE LULAC TIME MACHINE

Fulton J. Sheen TV Debut

February 1952

For 20 years as "Father Sheen," later monsignor, he hosted the night-time radio program The Catholic Hour on NBC (1930–1950) before he moved to television and presented Life Is Worth Living (1952–1957). Sheen's final presenting role was on the syndicated The Fulton Sheen Program (1961–1968) with a format that was very similar to that of the earlier Life Is Worth Living show. For that work, Sheen won an Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Television Personality, and was featured on the cover of Time magazine. Starting in 2009, his shows were being re-broadcast on the EWTN nd the Trinity Broadcasting Network's Church Channel cable networks. His contribution to televised preaching resulted in Sheen often being called one of the first televangelists.

On February 12, 1952, Sheen began a weekly television program on the DuMont Television Network called Life Is Worth Living. Filmed at the Adelphi Theatre in New York City, the program consisted of Sheen speaking extemporaneously before a live audience. The show did not have a script or cue cards, although Sheen occasionally used a chalkboard. He was not paid for the program. Life is Worth Living was scheduled in a prime time slot on Tuesday nights at 8:00 p.m. Its competition was the Texaco Star Theater on NBC, a variety show starring comedian Milton Berle and the Frank Sinatra Show, another variety program on CBS.

Defying all expectations, Life is Worth Living became very popular. The Frank Sinatra Show was canceled in April 1952, leading to speculation that it was due to the success of Sheen's show. Berle, known as "Uncle Miltie," frequently used old vaudeville material on his show. Joking about Sheen, he said. "He uses old material, too." Berle also observed, "If I'm going to be eased off the top by anyone, it's better that I lose to the One for whom Bishop Sheen is speaking."  Sheen responded to Berle, saying that perhaps people should start calling him "Uncle Fultie."

One of Sheen's best-remembered presentations came in February 1953, when he forcefully denounced the Soviet Union. Sheen gave a dramatic reading of the burial scene from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. He substituted the names of Soviet leaders (Stalin, Lavrenty Beria, Georgy Malenkov, and Andrey Vyshinsky) for those of characters in the play (Julius Caesar, Gaius Cassius Longinus, Marc Antony and Marcus Junius Brutus). Sheen concluded the presentation by saying, "Stalin must one day meet his judgment." Days later, Stalin suffered a stroke and died within the week.

Life Is Worth Living ran until 1957, drawing as many as 30 million people weekly, mostly non-Catholics. He received his third Emmy nomination in 1957. In 1952, Sheen won an Emmy Award for Most Outstanding personality. In accepting his Emmy, Sheen, "I feel it is time I pay tribute to my four writers – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John." At that time, Berle quipped, "We both work for 'Sky Chief'", a reference to God and Berle's sponsor, Texaco. He received his third Emmy nomination in 1957. Time called Sheen "the first 'televangelist'" and the Archdiocese of New York could not meet the demand for tickets. Sheen received a second Emmy nomination in 1953.

On October 15, 1969, one month after celebrating his 50th anniversary as a priest, Sheen resigned as bishop of Rochester. Pope Paul VI then appointed him as archbishop of the titular see of Newport, Wales. The ceremonial position allowed Sheen to devote more time to his extensive writing. During his lifetime, Sheen wrote 73 books and numerous articles and columns.

The actor Ramón Gerard Antonio Estévez adopted the stage name of Martin Sheen partly in admiration of the bishop.

On October 2, 1979, two months before Sheen's death, Pope John Paul II visited St. Patrick's Cathedral during his papal visit to the United States. During the ceremony, the pope embraced Sheen and said, "You have written and spoken well of the Lord Jesus Christ. You are a loyal son of the Church."

Beginning in 1977, Sheen "underwent a series of surgeries that sapped his strength and even made preaching difficult." Throughout that time, he continued to work on his autobiography, parts of which "were recited from his sickbed as he clutched a crucifix."  Soon after that, Sheen underwent open-heart surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.

Sheen died on December 9, 1979, in his private chapel while praying before the Blessed Sacrament. He was interred in the crypt of St. Patrick's Cathedral near the deceased archbishops of New York. In 2019, after a long legal battle, the archdiocese transferred Sheen's remains to the Diocese of Peoria, which re-interred them in the Cathedral of St. Mary in Peoria.

The cause for his canonization was officially opened in 2002. Sheen was scheduled to be beatified in Peoria on December 21, 2019, but this was postponed after Bishop Salvatore Matano of Rochester expressed concern that Sheen's alleged assignment of a priest who had been the subject of a 1963 sexual misconduct case might be cited unfavorably in a forthcoming report from the New York Attorney General. The Diocese of Peoria countered that the priest had been assigned not by Sheen but by his successor, and that Sheen had been "exonerated" following thorough examination

On September 24, 2026, Sheen was beatified in St. Louis, by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle on the mandate of Pope Leo XIV…and the number one song in LuLac land in February 1952 was “Cry” by Johnnie Ray.
