The LuLac Edition #660, Dec. 7th, 2008

PHOTO INDEX: LACKAWANNA COUNTY ATTORNEY AND TALK SHOW HOST JOE PETERS, CAROLINE KENNEDY AND HER LATE FATHER, JFK.

CAROLINE FOR SENATE

Boy we were off on this story last week when in one of our editions we touted the candidacy of Robert Kennedy, Junior to take the seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton in New York State. It seems that Caroline Kennedy has let it be known she is willing to talk about accepting an appointment for the job. Kennedy, the only living survivor of the late President's family would bring star power to the New York Democratic party. She is an accomplished writer, keeper of her late father's legacy with the Profiles In Courage awards every year as well as an articulate if not exciting oratorical advocate of political causes close to her family. Governor Patterson has to think this will help him in his re-election bid against former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. New York has not elected a Republican Governor since 1970 but in this changing political climate, you just never can take a chance. Kennedy would have to run in 2010 to serve out the rest of the Clinton term and then in 2012 for re-election for her own term. This whole scenario strikes me as so ironic and in keeping with the storied Kennedy chain of succession. When John F. Kennedy Junior was speaking at the Democratic conventions of 1988, '92 and '96, many politicos saw a political career for him, perhaps as a Senator from New York State. His death in a plane crash ended those hopes and speculation. Rewind to WWII when Joseph P. Kennedy, Junior, the annointed Kennedy political heir was killed in a plane crash in combat. His younger brother John Kennedy, reluctantly at first picked up the standard and entered politics. More than a few similarities in 2008 with the talk about Caroline Kennedy entering the political fray.

JOE PETERS

If you are truly interested in a very good radio program, tune in to WILK Radio the first Sunday of every month from noon to 2PM when Joe Peters mans the airwaves. The Peters show has attracted a spectrum of intelligent callers that in my estimation has made this appointment radio. His low key style belies the layers of experience and intelligence he brings to talk radio and WILK. Peters has served in both the Clinton and Bush administrations, made a state wide run for office in 2004 and was a much touted candidate for Congress in the 10th Congressional District in 2008.

Uhm Yonk,

I hate to be picky but Republican George Pataki was elected Governor of New York in 1994, 1998 and 2002.
