PHOTO INDEX: GOVERNOR SUGAR DADDY AND AN AD TO MAKE OUR POINT.

STATEWIDE SUGAR DADDY

Let’s see the governor is cutting out some pretty essential services for the middle class. Libraries were cut as well as social workers who man social programs and he has trimmed down money for state parks. Middle class people use libraries. Some to look for jobs. Communities use libraries. Some towns try to raise their own money for library development. White Haven has been raising money for years to put a library together. Been to most of their fundraisers. Social programs are used for people that can’t find high price psychiatrists. And state parks are used by people who can’t afford to go on vacation. Yep, dammit Big Ed tells us sacrifices have to be made and it might as well be the little people. In the meantime the Sugar Daddy Governor is handing out 10 million bucks to a policy center for the late John Murtha and 10 million for an Arlen Specter Library in Philadelphia. Loved both of those guys but can’t they raise their own money? I mean if the people in White Haven have to wait years to come up with the money, why can’t the Murtha and Specter people do the same? And I’m not the only one feeling this “unlove” for the gubernatorial sugar daddy. Two of my fellow bloggers said pretty much the same thing.
From John Micek's blog: http://blogs.mcall.com/capitol_ideas/
... the $20 million included in an economic development borrowing bill approved by lawmakers last week that will construct a library named after retiring U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter and a policy center named for the late U.S. Rep. John Murtha, saying they'll create badly needed construction jobs.
During an appearance at an elementary school in Cumberland County, where he signed the 2010-2011 state budget into law, the Democratic governor also pushed back at criticism that funding the projects sent the wrong message in a year in which the state is trimming funding for parks, preschool programs and libraries.
A $600 million borrowing bill lawmakers approved Saturday gives Rendell the authority to hand-pick roughly $600 million in economic development projects. Lawmakers are expected to pass a bill this fall with their own funding list.
The legislation includes $10 million for the Arlen Specter Library on the campus of Philadelphia University and $10 million for the construction of the John P. Murtha Policy Center. The move raised eyebrows among Republicans and fiscal conservatives who questioned the need for them in a tight budget year.
"They are both great projects," Rendell said after the budget-signing event at Elmwood Elementary School. The governor said the university badly needs the library space the Specter project will provide and claimed that the Murtha project will serve as a "technology center" once it's completed.
And from Tom Borthwick's blog: http://nepartisan.com/
This year’s state budget includes $10 million for a Specter Library and $10 million for a Public Policy Center named for deceased Congressman John Murtha. I’m all for honoring servants of the country and commonwealth, but when libraries are seeing huge budget cuts, for $10 million to be set aside for a library honoring a man who hasn’t yet finished doing his job just doesn’t make sense to me. Honor these people when there’s money in the budget. Don’t cut libraries statewide so you can build one in Philadelphia.

It may not have been the 'big news' of the day. But let's not let this Sunday go by without giving a thought to former Yankee stadium announcer Bob Sheppard who passed away at age 99.
His voice was one of those classic broadcasting voices that everyone in the field longed to have. Though he wasn't actually 'on the air' anyone who visited Yankee Stadium or heard his voice in the background of TV or radio broadcasts was bound to notice how clear he was and how easy to understand...something some current broadcasters still haven't learned. Though he left the booth some time back Sheppard's voice contuinues to be heard. Derek Jeter insists on having a recording of Sheppard introduce him shen he comes to the plate. Rest in peace Mr. Sheppard.

Sometimes its just hard to imagine this stuff is really going on. We have reached the Age of the Illogical in PA and Nationally.
Who are these people we elect? What world do they live in?
Its all as wrong as a Texas schoolbook if ya ask me!
Honor Murtha and Specter if you wish, but do it the old fashioned way with a Highway or a Park...

Yonk, that's the tip of the iceberg! Rep. Mundy and her colleagues voted in favor of HB 2289 and 2290 which gave Gov. Eddie the ok to give 10m to start the Specter Library, 15m for the Tasty Baking Co.,10m fo a new legal services building, 20m for the American Revolutionary Project, 5m for the Grays Ferry Corridor, 7.5m for a multipurpose project in the Navy Yard..and there were more...all for PHILADELPHIA...over 100 Million! And we the taxpayers get to foot the bill - with interest! All the while where the new budget cuts funding to our Libraries, state parks and our local and state police agencies.
Rep.Mundy has supported the last seven out of seven Rendell budgets which have exploded our state spending by more than 40% (8 Billion dollars). We must reduce spending--starting with undocumented per diems, which Ms. Mundy took at a clip of $16,000 in 2009 alone! We must reduce spending and reform our Government - the time is now!

Cant wait for round three of Kanjo vs Lou. This time Kanjo keeps putting his foot in his mouth calling his constituents nuts and defective people. He does not have the President to save him this time. Fast Ed Mitchell, Paul Maher, Joe Werner, and the rest of the do nothings might have to be looking for jobs come November.

I don't know if you heard Corbett this morning. He... I don't know if you heard Corbett this morning. He made a comment about people with tatoos and some guy in Scranton with a sweater draped over his shoulders. People trying to look cool. This coming from a guy approaching 60 with long hair and a long wild beard? He tries to look like a biker, but I know he doesn't own a bike. He is such a hypocritical ***hole. But yet you defend him.

A BIKER? NO WAY. HE LOOKS LIKE A MEMBER OF ZZ TOP. AND YOU BET I'LL DEFEND HIM. HEY, HE HAS AN OPINION. MY OPINION ON TATOOS ARE THAT THEY DESECRATE THE HUMAN BODY. I'M NOT GOING TO BE AROUND FOR IT BUT IN 60 YEARS THERE ARE GOING TO BE HUNDREDS OF TIFFANY'S AND JENN'S IN NURSING HOMES WITH SAGGING INK ON THEIR ONCE SUPPLE BODIES. INK DOESN'T WEAR WELL ON SKIN MY FRIEND. THERE'S A REASON WHY THEY PUT IT ON PAPER.

People have a right to wear tattoos, unless that is another freedom you and Corbett wish to quash.

As far as Corbett goes, he has said on air he wishes people to think he looks strange, or something to that effect. He was telling a story about going to his barber and the barber asked him about his hair and beard. So as to the substance of his hypocrisy. He is just trying to get attention, much the way those that sport tattoos do, much the way you do when you wear a nice suit and tie. To each his own. Oh wait that is American I forget you and Corbett are more fascist.
