The LuLac Edition #1503, March 8th, 2011

PHOTO INDEX: OUR SURVEY LOGO AND THE LUZERNE COUNTY COURTHOUSE.

AND THEY'RE OFF!!

Here are the 49, yes 49 (50 if you add in Tim Mullen's Libertarian candidacy) candidates running for Luzerne County Council. The latest Democrats to join the fray are; Democrats Stephen A. Urban, Wilkes-Barre; Wayne Wolfe, Hunlock Township; Michael S. Giamber, Ross Township; Robert G. Webb, Duryea; Thomas W. Ksiezopolski, Exeter Township; Fred Stuccio, Pittston; Tim McGinley, Kingston; and Harry W. Skene, West Pittston. The two most interesting are Steve Urban our newly turned Democratic County Commissioner who was a Republican and Michael Giamber who was one of the moving forces in the Charter Yes campaign.
They join the other Democrats: John Adonizio, Hughestown; Eileen Sorokas, Wilkes-Barre; Wil Toole, Dupont; Mario J. Fiorucci Jr., Sugar Notch; Michael McGlynn, Duryea; Stanley Knick Jr., Dupont; Thomas Rovinski, Dallas; Jim Bobeck, Kingston; Elaine Maddon Curry, Butler Township; Salvatore Licata, Pittston; Linda McClosky Houck, Kingston; Joseph M. Padavan, Bear Creek Township; Thomas Mark Rome, Dupont; John T. Nadolny, Nanticoke; Jane Walsh-Waitkus, Dorrance Township; Michael G. Collins, Ashley; Brian K. Overman, Plymouth; Frank Sorokach, Ashley; M. Theresa Morcavage, Plymouth; Michelle Bednar, Conyngham Township; Michael A. Chrobak, Dallas; John Livingston, Wilkes-Barre; Edward A. Brominski, Swoyersville; Bruce J. Simpson, Wilkes-Barre; and Casey Evans, Lehman Township.
The GOP people who filed today were; Eugene Kelleher, Dallas Township; Blythe H. Evans III, Plymouth; Joyce Dombroski-Gebhardt, Kingston; and Joseph A. Gorko, Wilkes-Barre.
Evans comes from a long proud line of Republicans in the county and Kelleher served as Campaign Manager for Walter Griffith’s successful run for County Controller. The other GOP candidates are; Rick Morelli, Sugarloaf Township; Edward Warkevicz, Lehman Township; Gina Nevenglosky, Dorrance Township; Moderno “Butch” Rossi, Lehman Township; William McIntosh, Dallas Township; William “Bill” James, Exeter Township; Kathleen M. Dobash, Hazleton; Michael Cabell, Butler Township; John Ruckno, Dallas; Harry Haas, Wilkes-Barre; Stephen J. Urban, Wilkes-Barre; and Linda J. Urban, Wilkes-Barre.
So we have the specter of a husband Steve Urban running against his wife Linda Stets Urban in the General if both are successful in their primary races.

IMPORTANCE

This County Council race is going to be very important and should not be taken lightly. Looking at the field, I see some very good people who are capable of incredible, history making leadership when the new government is formed. I see other candidates who have a vested interest that I believe they will advocate for if they are elected. Finally I see some candidates that if elected will make a mockery of our democratic process. It is going to be up to the voters to observe three tiers of candidates, catagorize them and then hit the select button. We have the following catagories:
1. The Contenders,
2. The Pretenders and
3. The Obstructionists.
Voters are going to have to work very hard in this election to separate and determine who they want on that Council. It is very interesting to me that I have seen no recruitment from both parties for viable candidates. I mean where are the establishment candidates? Where are those candidates that the party would endorse? It is interesting that there hasn’t been that push. Then there’s this, are there people out there who did not take the leap because of the climate in Luzerne County? Would the funding sources invest in a campaign freely if they knew every cent and connection, innocent or not would be scrutinized?
This ballot is a big one. Voters are going to have to listen to these people and determine whether the people asking to serve on this council know what they’re doing and want to build a better government. The candidates who want to serve just for the sake of serving need to be weeded out by the voters. The candidates who want to help implode the new government for the simple satisfaction of saying “I told you so” also need to be called out by the voters. This is going to be a big job and only time will tell if the voters of Luzerne County will be up to the task. They better be because there’s a lot riding on this. There are 50 people running, voters of both parties are going to have to be ruthless in determining what their own self interest will be in all of this.

UPDATES

In upcoming editions will review other candidates running for office in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties.

POLL QUESTION

TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT

Last week we issued a few poll questions on the viability of the candidacy of Donald Trump. Here are the results:

DO YOU FEEL THAT STRAIGHT TALKING, BOMBASTIC BUSINESSMAN DONALD TRUMP WOULD BE A GOOD PRESIDENT?

A. YES 36.0%
B. NO 64.0%

2. WOULD YOU CONSIDER VOTING FOR DONALD TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT?

A. YES 36.0%
B. NO 64.0%

BACK TO THE WALL, THE FATE OF THE FREE WORLD HANGS IN THE BALANCE, YOU HAVE ONLY ONE CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012. PICK ONE.

A. TRUMP 48%
B. OBAMA 52%

What is interesting here is how Obama barely beats Trump even though the previous two poll questions are clearly not in Trump’s favor. Our little poll is totally unscientific but just imagine if some of the respondents actually liked Donald Trump and believed in his political leadership capabilities.

POINT WELL TAKEN. A LITTLE TOO MUCH ENTHUSIASM AND A LOT LESS TAB THESE DAYS. SORRY FOR THE MISTAKE. BUT VERY GLAD YOU CALLED ME OUT ON IT.

I think Yonki is right on point about a lot of these County Council people. I have to give him credit for coming out and saying that there are real whack jobs running for these seats. I wish he was less of a gentleman and would point them out to us but I realize that's our job as voters. Watch out for those who wish to destroy and offer nothing substantial.

50 Candidates running for anything leads to only one thing, "Clusterfuck"! Seems a totally wacky way to revise government. How are we supposed to sort thru this group and eliminate the wackjobs when we have demonstrated an inability to do that with two or three candidates? Frustrating as hell if you ask me.

Mr Yonki,
I enjoy Lulac very much. With regard to editing, is it necessary to allow language such as that used by 1:25PM who writes well enough to have found another way to make his point? I am not a prude but think a line needs to be walked here and am just suggesting consideration on your part.

Interested in picking the best candidates? How bout doing a little research? Many of the candidates are serious enough to have web sites that speak of their credentials and share some of their ideas and goals. Maybe the Yonkster can list the available web sites.

I'm voting for the guy who went to prison. He knows how bad it is and probably doesn't want to go back.

Someone needs to check out the candidate with the initials WW. He is not exactly telling the truth.
