The LuLac Edition # 1505, March 11th, 2011

PHOTO INDEX: MAYBE I'M AMAZED LOGO.

MAYBE I’M AMAZED

Maybe I’m Amazed……..that the Charlie Sheen story continues to be told. This is a train wreck and the fact that the entertainment media is covering it, well that’s bad enough. But when that coverage bleeds over into the national network news, then there is a problem.
Maybe I’m Amazed…….that there are still people out there saying how much they enjoy winter. Even after this relentless one of 2010-2011 I still have people telling me how much they love the white stuff. Maybe I’m Amazed……..that there are people who are stunned that Governor Tom Corbett cut the education budget. He said many times on the campaign trail that he was going o do it. Just how much was going to the only mystery.
Maybe I’m Amazed…….that there weren’t any more guards at the Luzerne County prison who were caught with their hands in the till or variations thereof. The new warden I trying but he can’t control everybody or everything.
Maybe I’m Amazed……..that 10th Congressional District Congressman Tom Marino got some major face time on TV behind Congressman Peter King when the New Yorker held his hearings on Muslims in the U.S. Marino serves on the Homeland Security Committee with King.
Maybe I’m Amazed………that a guy who was convicted and served a jail sentence didn’t think anyone was going to notice that when he ran for County Council.
Maybe I’m Amazed…….that a resident of low income housing gets caught selling crack to an undercover officer while her “friend” from Brooklyn is just lounging on her couch trying to hide his stash. This “friend” from Brooklyn had according to the Times Leader a “large amount” of money in his pockets. So if your “friends” have large amounts of money, what are you doing in public housing? Why is your “friend” crashing with you when he has a “large amount” of money on him? And like they say in the infomercials, “Wait there’s more!” Her little baby was in the house while she was selling the crack. Here’s how I would handle this:
a. Take the kid and get it adopted elsewhere.
b. Throw the seller out of the apartment.
c. Drug test any renter once a month.
d. Do sweeps to determine if any out of town company are crashing there.
e. If convicted, ban the seller from any more public housing.
That’s what I would do but according to my posters, I’m a bleeding heart liberal.
Maybe I’m Amazed……back to Charlie Sheen again. This who cacophony of his Sheenness started with an innocent 7 minute interview on “The Dan Patrick Radio Show.” Patrick asked him a question about the show and then he was off to the races.

I guess Congressman Marino has nothing better to do than pick on poor Muslims. I thought he said jobs-jobs-jobs was his #1 priority. Wonder if he is going to hold hearings on the Republicans' slashing of funding for emergency preparedness and disaster relief for threats to Americans that are going on right now - like tsunamis and flooding in his own district.

David, Several years ago, Pittston was having trouble with non-tenants staying in apartments of the three low income housing developments in the city. I offered a strong suggestion that each tenant be issued a special parking tag and any "visitor" who would be in the apartment past 10PM would require registering at the office and given a visitor tag. This had to be done prior to the office end of work day. The Pittston Police had a separate contract to patrol the projects and the suggestion was that any vehicle lacking a "visitor" tag would be towed. The next day the offending tenant would become known and if there was a second offence they would be evicted. This is an idea that would work even today but it has never been accepted as a regulation and procedure to control NY and Philly "guests". Sometimes we are our own worse enemies when we refuse to try new ideas. Wil Toole

Maybe I'm Amazed that you start the column with Charlie Sheen, you proceed to get off the subject, THEN you get back to him as you cross the finish line. See ... the goof is newsworthy. Even with your grousing about him and how much of a "problem" he has become when the national network new covers him, we all still watch and listen. EVEN YOU MA MAN!

Funny, the bleeding heart liberals you worship created these problems that you attack, but you won't attack the root cause; government dependence.

I'm voting for the guy who went to prison. He knows how bad it is and probably doesn't want to go back.
