MAYBE I’M AMAZED

MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that the new County Clerk in Luzerne is getting paid a cool $40,000 a year and she’s not even 25 yet! Out of the 97 people that interviewed for this job, do you mean to tell me that the County Council couldn’t find a local person who could have done the job? Why was the interim County Clerk bypassed? Is this out of the area new hire so worldly that she can contribute perspective with her vast governmental experience? This speaks volumes about where the County Council’s head is at. But what can you expect, they’ve ignored the offers of experience and counsel from former Council candidates Mike Giamber and Wil Toole (who have a combined 75 years experience in federal, state and local government administration, gave Bruce Simpson (another person with governmental experience) the door when he tried to show them how to run an ethics board and forgot that Tom Pribula set the stage as Budget Director for the County’s first steps on the road to fiscal stability. But I’m sure she’ll do fine with all her experience.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that I’m not so amazed about the Freeh Report regarding Penn State. It only points to the fact that athletes and coaches are part of a special brotherhood that will cover each other’s asses (even with shower towels) when one of their own strays. Even if that straying involves heinous crimes. It appears that nowhere did the Penn State administration or Coach Paterno worry about the victims. Their concern was for Sandusky to leave, get a nice check, keep his mouth shut and hope the whole thing would just blow over. But the question remains, why the hell did they give Sandusky the hall pass to wander around campus and still try to stalk and pinpoint victims? This cover up not only was morally wrong but pretty stupid. So I guess we have to take devious off the table and replace it with naivety. It’s small consolation for Joe Pa fans but at least it’s something. But the coaching fraternities make the Silent Blue Line look like gossipers at the beauty parlor.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that at some point in time, members of the Big 10 are going to be calling for some form of sanctions. If Ohio State gets in trouble for selling memorabilia, what type of punishment is just in this case?
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that I can always tell when WILK has Bosco back on as the morning producer. The music is well thought out, fits in with the content of the show and compliments the conversation.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED….that just when the summer is heating up, gas is also going up. I think the missing gas in Wilkes Barre is going to be an issue that will dog the Leighton administration for a long time. It is an issue people understand.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that we as a country get all crazy and bitch about socialism when a health care act is passed by a duly elected Congress. But when market analysts, Wall Street hedge fund pigs and foreign dictators arbitrarily screw with us on oil and gas prices, we just nod meekly like little pansies. And then we give the oil companies a tax break!
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……that only in Wilkes Barre you never heard any amount of righteous indignation from City Council members on the missing gas at the DPW garage. The guy that came closest to expressing any shock was Tony George. The others……nope.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…..that Reggie Jackson is still the straw that stirs the drink. Reggie was featured in a “Where They Are Now” feature in Sports Illustrated. Jackson said that steroid era players like Alex Rodriguez should not be allowed in the Hall and that current Hall members should boycott the induction ceremonies if steroid era players get in. He also opined that beloved characters like the late Kirby Pickett and Gary Carter should not have gotten in. Reggie is still Reggie! That’s not amazing.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED….at the newspaper accounts of the Plymouth shootings in the paper the other day. The chilling thing for me was the total lack of remorse and even understanding of the gravity of the crime these two sub humans committed. Yep, let’s off some people and go to “duh mall” and buy some new bling. I think it is pretty convenient that the 18 year old blamed the 16 year old on the shooting. They might be animals but they are smart ones. Can’t wait for the trial when we’ll hear how misunderstood these two are. Bet ya they’ll show up in court with shirts and ties.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED……..that people even criticize the President for his attire when he supports his baseball team. Hey, the White Sox are his team so let the man be. Let him wear the cap and the jacket. He’s a fan.
MAYBE I’M AMAZED…….that the producers of the movie “Bull Durham” thought that Susan Sarandon would not be a good fit for the role of “Annie” in that classic baseball movie. Equally amazing is the fact that their first pick was not Kevin Costner but Charlie Sheen who was working on another movie.
MAYBE I'M AMAZED..........that twenty years ago, all transactions in stores were 85% cash. Today the number is down to just 33%.

Yonkster, the problem with the individuals you mentioned is that they volunteered their time. What they should have done was formed a consulting firm and with their combined experience would have been the premire consulting firm in NE Pennsylvania. If its free, it has no value so all they needed to do was offer advise and solutions at a huge cost and the County would have jumped on it. Hey, maybe there is a place for you in the company.

But you know, this County Council thinks it invented government. The top two are horrendous. The Vice Chairperson is a total joke and will never give in to the unions and the top guy is just not wanting to hear any ideas from the old school. I'm sure he had a lot to do with this "twinkie" being hired. I voted for Home Rule but my wife did not. She said the faces would change but the same old attitudes would remain.

Flags should be at half mast in Pennsylvania! The shame at Penn State is endless, bottomless! As a talking voice on radio said yesterday re Joe Paterno, "He's lucky he died when he did." Absurd as that statement is, its true!
This has nothing to do with football. Its about Humanity, Decency and Honor!
The Horror, the Horror...

It is sad that the county council actually believe that they can form a government when in fact, as a group they are not capable of organizing a parade. There is no leader among them and the only one with experience in government is Brominsky and he has become a mean old man living in the past.

Once more Mr. Yonki, I think you nailed many things on this "edition". But your disdain for criminals proves one thing, you are not as liberal as you th8ink you are. Or for that matter, what others think of you.
