The LuLac Edition #2427, May 21st, 2013

ELECTION RECAP-PRIMARY 2013

LUZERNE COUNTY

CONTROLLER’S RACE: After the dust settled it appeared that Michelle Bednar beat County Council member Steve Urban. On the Republican side, embattled incumbent Walter Griffith won handily over his opponent Karen Ceppa Hirak. Griffith opened up a lead shortly after the polls closed.

COUNTY COUNCIL: On the Democratic side, Michael Giamber, Renee Ciaruffoli-Taffera Richard "Kick" Heffronn, Linda McClosky Houck and Elaine Sorokus had no opposition. On the GOP side, Harry Haas, Gene Kelleher, and Kathy Dobash appeared to be winners. At post time, Paul DeFabo and Alex Milanes were separated by 75 votes.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY

SCRANTON MAYOR: Liz Randol and Bill Courtright were the front runners and the race proved to be an interesting one that could change the course of Scranton. He was the big winner tonight was Bill Coutright over Liz Randol. Courtright built up majorities all across the city and despite a last minute problem with back tax fees on a rental property, Courtright won running away. But Liz Randol seems to have snagged the GOP nomination to set up a General Election rerun with Courtright.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY JUDICIAL RACE: With James Gibbons, Alyce Hailstone Farrell, Donna Davis Javitz, Patti Grande Reider, P. Timothy Kelly competing, it looked like Jim Gibbons was on his way to winning a dual nomination.
SCRANTON COUNCIL: Pat Rogan, Joe Wechsler, Joseph A. Matyjevich and William Gaughan were the apparent winners with Tim Perry following close behind.
STUDY QUESTION: On the question to see if voters wanted to study a new form of government voters said they would support a Government Study Commission but said overwhelmingly that wanted to keep the row offices of Recorder of Deeds, Register of Wills and Clerk of Judicial Records.

DJ RACE NAILBITER

In the race for Pittston District Justice, Alexandra Kokura has 1313, Red O'Brien 1300 and Gerald Mecadon 1226. Would have loved to have given you earlier results but Luzerne County website went down. If anyone of these three gets the GOP nod, this might be a rerun for the General Election. More Wednesday. Giamber is Mitt Romney with a D next to his name. I wonder when he's going to disclose the tens of thousands of dollars he got from the gas companies?

Unfortunately, whoever takes the District Justice race, Kokura or Mecadon, is a lawyer.

IN other words, they will use the office as a grandstand to seek a County Judicial seat in the future.

Dist. Justice's like Marty Kane (who is not a lawyer) do not hold that ambition as they have no law degree. They will not rule on politics to look "tough" for the future electorate.

An office such as this should be held by a non-lawyer. I realize Pierentoni held it for decades before seeking the County judge seat, but that was simply waiting for the proper opening.

the DJ job is not too hard to perform. Either someone shot their buddy in a dispute over who gets the last piece of pizza and is bound over for trial or they didn't.
Im no Einstein, but even I could do that job. And if given it, I wouldn't be using it as a stepping stone but as an honorable charge from my consttituency.

I would like to say I am surprised that Walter won, but I'm not.
There are still republican's who believe Nixon did nothing wrong.
Walter not only recorded, but he may have now made any evidence obtained, by other means, but if had the same points on recording, inadmissable.
And to those who say Walter had a target on his back. He may have, but not in this case. This is more like Walter being at a shooting range and running into the path of the bullet.
Walter, brought attention to this himself.

Good morning students,
For those of you who showed up all week to find the door locked, I apologize once again. I have been very busy placing the finishing touches on my book (patience you fellows at Random House!!). Doing so, puts a good deal of strain on my time available to educate you mush heads. If I must choose between doing valid research and coming here, well, even you would know how to place that bet with your respective bookies. I also enjoyed some very insightful evenings at the club. Our chef, Jasper, prepared a wonderful filet mignon, in addition to some scrumptious side dishes. Much of the conversation over fine brandy and cigars dwelt on our two favorite subjects, finance and politics. Something very few of you can really understand.

The work of this classroom moves forward……..

Students, he who lives by the press shall perish by the press. Such is the predicament of Pres. Obama. In one of the most ironic twists ever, the press now has about as much affection for Mr. Obama as they do for conservative Republicans in general. As Milton, a friend of mine from the club puts it, “How wonderfully diabolical in its irony.” Years ago in my lectures posted on the Gort 42 website (and I hope you all take the time to read them) I predicted the downfall of Mr. Obama, comparing him to a teen idol who rises like a phoenix only to crash to the ground never to be heard from again. So, now we see the beginnings of my prophecy ringing truthful.
Ironically, I am on the Presidents’ side on this issue of wiretapping the press. When It comes to protecting the security of our fighting men overseas we MUST take all precaution to see that their mission (s) are not compromised. Reporters are like leeches. They have no morals, no concern for others, and will go to any length to enhance their own selves. The security of our military operations is the most important responsibility that a President possesses. Unfortunately, he has now turned his greatest allies against him….the fourth estate.
Now, when we speak of the IRS investigating specific, and in this case, conservative, political organizations….well, this is an outrage!!!! The IRS is deemed an independent and non-political entity. WE have every right, we the PEOPLE, every right to expect that the organization is color blind as to political philosophy, both left and right. It seems that suddenly we have these witch hunts on the Tea Party……during a Democratic administration. As of now, the smoking gun has not been found, but I feel even you layabouts have an idea that it will be found and soon. Perhaps in a desk drawer of the Oval Office/??????
I have lectured far and wide on the Benghazi episode so I will not continue on that today, as my time is precious and I must close. I have a meeting later today in NYC with my publisher. He promises me a good dinner at a good restaurant. I look forward to the intelligent conversation with this very remarkable self-made man. Someone all of you slackers could learn from. Whether or not I can be available tomorrow morning is up in the air. I just ask you to keep up with your assignments, stay away from the drugs and alcohol, and by all accounts, DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!
Something to think about this morning……
Class Dismissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6:43. If only life were as simple as you paint it. Happy you are not speaking for the majority.

Kukura was absolutely the best choice but 3 candidatges from Dupont does hurt the home town advantage. This is one election that resulted in the best candidate winning.

The biggest question to local well established lawyers was, if Mecadon won how cuold he make a decision? He seems to be looked upon as a guy with no balz or backbone.

Lawton will never admit to a mistake but they should bring Len Piazza back p;ost haste. Lay down all the rules and regulations they want and give him an extended probationary period but bring him back.

Professor

Who is the target demographic for your book? Is your publisher going to market your book digitally? Will you get a better rate going digital? You probably know this but are you going to try and retain the book rights? If not, then try to work a licensing deal with RH so you keep ownership and are able to profit directly from digital sales.

Enjoy the meeting.

Like there is a book!
It will be printed on rose petals.
The Prof is full of himself and not much else.

Anon: 5:08 p.m.:

Young man, thank you for your kind and insightful questions. As for the demographic I am attempting to target, age is not the issue but intelligence. I aim to reach those who can at least make sense out of a few paragraphs at a time.
As I have several close friends in the legal profession, I can assure you that I will not be left out in the lurch as far as financial matters, so to speak.
As for any financial numbers for my work, that is private ( I am certain you respect that view). The book shall be published in hard copy.
There will be a kindle version of the book, in addition.
I thank you for your questions once again. There is nothing more rewarding to me than an inquisitive young mind. Unlike some of the ingrates in this class who use most of their time sleeping off last night's hangover or opium den stay.
Young man,
Have a nice holiday.
You are dismissed.
