Political analyst for WBRE TV's Pa. Live program and post election commentator for WBRE TV's Eyewitness News Daybreak show. Author of the book "A Radio Story/We Wish You Well In Your Future Endeavors" and "Leges Vitae" "26 Rules of Life" and the new novel, "Weather Or Knot". The blog editor also writes various news articles and columns as well as upcoming literary projects. The blog editor was a frequent guest on WYOU TV'S INTERACTIVE NEWSCASTS when political issues were discussed on the national, state and local level. Yonki was a weekly panelist on WYLN TV 35's Friday Topic A program. He also appeared on the Hazleton, PA. station on Election Night doing coverage and did special projects and stories for WYLN TV 35's 10PM Newscast "Late Edition".

Happy Presidents Day. Can anyone name a good one? In my lifetime I think maybe Truman or Eisenhower.
As to the others just an array of tap dancers, actors and phonies all!
Now its a day off for some and a good opportunity to sell cars, furniture and sheets.

In my lifetime I think Ronald Reagan who forced me to grow up and leave the government t!t was the best.I learned about doing things for myself and being proud of the accomplishments.
He also won the Cold War without firing a shot.

Reagan winning the cold war is a myth! The Russians lost the cold war pretty much on their own and they were bankrupted by Afghanistan. One thing I believe about Reagan is that he was the last president in a position to make compromise work and he had Tip ONeil to work with and together they could talk, be civil and respectful and put the good of the nation before their own agendas. I think Reagan was a good man more than a great president and that says a lot. I also agree with RGB re Eisenhower. He should be reevaluated. The General kept a cool head in more than one dangerous situation and didnt over react.

Ford because he pardoned Nixon. Jefferson because he expanded America westward and Tyler because he stood his ground as the first Vice President to succeed a dead President in office.

Ford, Good God!It did take guts to pardon Nixon and was the right move but a zero otherwise.
FDR has got to get consideration.
WWII and the depression. Those were the toughest of times and dont forget Social Security.
Lincoln for most of the same reasons.
Washington because we could have a King right now if he didnt make the right moves.
and maybe Truman because he had balls which so many have lacked.
Its all conjecture and history's spin, but sadly there have been few great men in the office.

I hope you are all dealing competently as you can with our series of snowstorms. I enjoyed a quiet but rejuvenating weekend at a physician friends estate in Vermont. In my younger days, I would have taken to the slopes, as skiing was always a great love of mine. Instead, I enjoyed the view from the hilltop overlooking the beauty of the New England landscape. One cannot beat sitting by a fire, enjoying good wine and conversation. TO return to this den of sludge is a bit of a letdown. And please, please!!!! Do not use snowfall to excuse yourself from attending classes!!!!!

Students, as Mr. Yonki has opened the floor to list the “best” Presidents, I find it amusing how some in this class have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Allow me to enlighten you.
The 5 Greatest United States Presidents:
1. George Washington: The man who, although he himself did not establish the office, set the precedent for its continuation. When artist Benjamin West informed King George III that Washington would leave office following the prescribed time of his term, the King responded, “IF he does this, he will truly be a great man.” Need I say more.
2. Abraham Lincoln: Called “The original gorilla” by his own Secretary of State, Lincoln refused to be intimidated by aspersions cast upon his character and moved forward with his intent on saving the Union. Despite calls from many members of his own party to forge a compromise with the South. Greatness indeed.
3. Ronald Wilson Reagan: Took control of a nation crippled by a fractured economy from an even more crippled and fractured leader, Jimmy Carter. Slashed tax rates by 30%, instilling 8 solid years of economic growth. Took the reins on national defense by modernizing our weaponry and our readiness for any threat to our security. The nation rewarded him in 1984 by returning him to office with the largest electoral/popular vote margins in history.
And there you have it, the three greatest Presidents of the United States.
God willing, someone will come along in the next cycle who can compare.

6:15..... I think you were reding my mind. You are 100% correct that Reagan had nothing to do with the Cold War ending, it was Russia doing the same thing we are in the sand lands. As for Ike, he played a lot of gold and that was a good thing because it kept him out of the Oval Office. Remember Viet Nam? Ike was the beginning of it.
As for naming the 3 best presidents, if anyhone really looks into it, there were a heck of a lot more than 3 so how do you judge them?
Yep 10:17 theres no doubt Tyler has long been known as one of the great presidents! Why seldom is there a discussion when the name of whatever his first name was Tyler doesnt come up! Who could forget his handling of
what exactly or for that matter when? Lincoln, Roosevelt and Truman pale in comparison with a giant like Tyler.

Ike may have first gotten us involved in Vietnam but he would never have allowed us to get in that deep. Military advisors wanted him to go in to save the French at Dien Bien Phu even suggesting the Atomic bomb! It was Kennedy and Johnson who took the bait on Southeast Asia. They should have read Graham Green or better still Bernard Fall.
I remember Vietnam only too well as a matter of fact I'll never forget.

Young man, I applaud you for your awareness as to the fact that I listed only 3 Presidents instead of the 5 which I promised.
The reason being that the remainder of the class had chosen 3 and not wishing to upstage them any further than I already have, I chose to limit my choices to equal theirs.
In due course, I will provide my further 2 picks.

No matter what you say about Reagan, he was smart enough to know when the opportunity presented itself and used it to achieve the end of the Cold war.
Our current occupant could learn a lot by studying his strategies.
