59-41!
IS THAT WINNING?
CONTROLLED SENATE VOTES TO TERMINATE TRUMP'S BORDER EMERGENCY ORDER

The Republican-run Senate threw ice cold water on Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the southwest border. It is setting up a veto fight and dealing him a rebuke as he tested how boldly he could ignore Congress in pursuit of his highest-profile goal. That goal, building his stupid wall.
The Senate tally was 59-41 to cancel Trump's February proclamation of a border emergency. Remember that? He wanted to spend $3.6 billion more for border barriers than Congress had approved. Twelve Republicans joined Democrats in defying Trump in a showdown many GOP senators had hoped to avoid because he commands die-hard loyalty from millions of conservative voters who could punish defecting lawmakers in next year's elections.
With the Democratic-controlled House's approval of the same resolution last month, Senate passage sends it to Trump. Minutes after the vote, Trump tweeted VET. Well at least he spelled it right. Approval votes in both the Senate and House fell short of the two-thirds majorities needed to override.
It seems now that Diaper Don will use the vote pen for this as well as the vote to end U.S. support for the Saudi Arabian-led coalition's war in Yemen.
In a measure of how remarkable the confrontation was, Thursday was the first time Congress has voted to block a presidential emergency since the National Emergency Act became law in 1976.

SOME GOP WUSSES SIDED WITH TRUMP

Ben Sass not so sassy with Diaper Don!
Ben Sass and Lindsay Graham interrupted Trump’s dinner last night trying to get him to waver. Tom Tillis who said he’d vote against it changed his mind when push came to shove. Corey Gardner of Colorado bit the bullet and kissed Trump’s big ole ass.
These guys will be on the wrong side of history. They are cowards and very little men.

PAT TOOMEY

I’ve disparaged our senior Senator a number of times but have to commend him for standing on principle. Toomey did not follow the other GOP Senators off a cliff and deserves a shout out.

HOUSE VOTES 420-0 TO RELEASE MUELLER REPORT BUT THE SENATE? NOPE!

The House of Representatives voted to pass a non-binding resolution calling for the public release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's final report into the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, but Sen. Lindsey Graham blocked the vote in the Senate.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer asked for unanimous consent on the resolution, which passed the House in a 420-0 vote. However, Graham objected after Schumer refused to amend the resolution to include a provision on appointing a special counsel to investigate misconduct at the Justice Department related to FISA applications against former Trump campaign official Carter Page. Again, old Southern boy Graham deflecting.

The House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation introduced by U.S. Representatives Matt Cartwright and Peter Welch (VT-AL) to help American schools become more energy efficient.
The Streamlining Energy Efficiency for Schools Act establishes a one-stop clearinghouse for schools to access available federal resources to finance energy efficiency projects. In short, the bill would make it easier for schools to take full advantage of government programs that can improve their learning environments and cut their energy costs at the same time.
The bill is co-sponsored by Representatives Nanette Díaz Barragán, Suzanne Bonamici, Earl Blumenauer, Salud Carbajal, Sean Casten, Gil Cisneros, Steve Cohen, Gerry Connolly, Mark DeSaulnier, Brian Fitzpatrick, Katie Hill, Bill Keating, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Dave Loebsack, Alan Lowenthal, Doris Matsui, Donald McEachin, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Scott Peters, Chellie Pingree, Mark Pocan, Mike Quigley, Kathleen Rice, Paul Tonko, and Frederica Wilson.
“This bill will benefit our nation’s children and help protect our environment, all while helping schools save their scarce resources to spend on other priorities,” said Rep. Cartwright. “Too many schools today desperately need vast improvements to meet their energy needs, and this bill helps them find the resources to do it.”
“Investments in energy efficiency save money, create jobs, and improve the environment,” said Rep. Welch. “By streamlining federal programs and cutting red tape, our bipartisan bill will result in lower energy use and lower energy bills for taxpayer-funded school systems in Vermont and around the country.”
Specifically, the Act would direct the Secretary of Energy to establish a clearinghouse for available programs and financing mechanisms that schools may use to finance energy efficiency, distributed generation, and energy retrofitting projects.
Senator Susan Collins, of Maine, introduced companion legislation in the Senate.
