The LuLac Edition #950, Sept. 22nd, 2009

PHOTO INDEX: 1964 PHILLIES HAT, GOP LOGO, LUZERNE COUNTY JUDGES TOM BURKE AND PETER PAUL OLSZEWSKI.

JUDGES EMERGE

Two Luzerne County Judges vying for retention in the November elections emerged yesterday on the Steve Corbett program on WILK Radio. Both incumbent judges have been making the rounds at social events over the summer but this marked the first time both took to the airwaves to discuss their retention bids. Burke said that he didn't have any campaign funds this go round and hoped his reputation as a fair minded jurist would carry him through. Olszewski addressed the issue of his being in Florida at disgraced Judge Michael Conahan's condo. Both acquitted themselves well. In an ordinary election year, a retention vote race would not be notable but because of the indictments of Judges Conahan and Ciavarella, this these races will loom large. There is a knee jerk reaction to throw everyone out and paint everyone with the broad brush of corruption. The instinct is to just vote no as retribution for the scandals. Many fear both incumbents will be caught in that crossfire. It is extremely important both Judges asking for retention get in front of this issue by offering their credentials as well as their personalities to the public. Yesterday on Corbett was a good start. Whether it will work or not, we'll know on Election night. Not to be trite, but the jury is out on this one.

45 YEARS AGO: THE COLLAPSE

Sept. 22nd, '64 Phillies.

Chris Short, 17 game winner gets rocked by the Reds in a 9-2 defeat. Pete Rose, Deron Johnson and Frank Robinson pace the Reds with an all out hitting attack that gives the Phils their second loss in a row. Jim O'Toole holds the Phils to just 2 runs. O'Toole gets his 16th win in a complete game performance while Short is relieved by John Boozer, Ed Roebuck and spot starter Rick Wise. The Phils still remain in first place.

I just don't buy these guys not knowing what was going on. Even the lowliest worker knows the scuttlebutt on what's happening in their jobs. You mean to tell me these judges didn't know about Conahan and Ciavrella?

Sure they knew, it's just that they're all so damn arrogant, it never entered their feeble little minds that they'd get caught. And why would they ... it's been going on for such a long time and probably STILL IS NOW. But again, they think it's just about blown over and it won't happen to me syndrome sets in.

Cant imagine they didnt have an inkling. They are moral cowards!
Not willing participants, but they let it go on and on... Now they need to go. Clear them out. They dont belong there anymore.

Heard them both on the air. Glad I am not the GSM or GM at entercom You have a Steve Corbett telling them not to raise money., If they don't raise money they don't advertise on your station. edited
I know I know this will get edited, but it shouldn't. In this lousy economy those sales reps could use the cash the judges would spend. But like the servers he wanted to hurt by not having the bars open early on St. Patty's day Corbett does not care about the working class.

FIRST OFF SALES REPS RARELY GET POLITICALS. SALES MANAGERS GET THAT COMMISSION. IN THE WARPED WORLD OF RADIO SALES, IF YOU MAKE TOO MUCH COMMISSION FRON ONE CLIENT, OR IF THE CUSTOMER WANTS YOUR STATION, IT IS REGARRED AS AN EASY SELL SO THEREFORE THE SALES REP COULDN'T POSSIBLEY DO ANY AMOUNT OF WORK FOR IT AND DOESN'T DESERVE IT AS A CLIENT. BEEN THERE, SEEN IT. LIVED IT. AS FOR CORBETT'S CONCERN FOR THE WORKING CLASS IT IS QUITE EVIDENT IN HIS DAILY PROGRAM. DID YOU HEAR HIS LABOR DAY SHOW PRIOR TO THAT HOLIDAY? AND THE ARGUEMENT YOU MAKE FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY IS PRETTY SPECIOUS. I KNOW OF A BAR ON THAT DAY THAT SOLD A FEW THOUSAND 30 PACK CASES OF COORS LIGHT AND A FEW THOUSAND OF GUINESS. THE PEOPLE WHO HAULED THE JUNK AWAY MADE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS THAT DAY. THE SERVERS WEREN'T HURTING ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY AND TO LAY THAT AT THE FOOT OF ANY RADIO HOST IS JUST CRAZY.
Hey Yonki, how about an answer to the first ****ing post. Are you running a write in campaign or not?
I DON'T ****ING KNOW.

Dear Mr. Yonki,
I am a server in a scranton area pub. I have worked there 10 years, by starting serving beer later my tips have gone down almost 500 dollars and 800 dollars off my best years. As a single mother that loss of money really hurt me. So **** (edited) you and Corbett.

Did Corbett pound Peter Paul or what? The good judge should have known better than to think he could bullshit Corbett. Saying that he knew nothing about Conahan friend but did make inquires, why? When you meet a guy at a house party, do ask questions about his background? I'm sure you don't nor would I but Peter Paul says he did and was told very little. What a crock. I didn't swallow that childlike story and Corbett didn't. Then Peter Paul said he wasn't aware of Conahan being an un indicted co-conspirator back in the 90's because there were no news stories in the papers. Is he stupid? He was talking with Corbett, a guy who prides himself as being a newsman and is a former TL reporter. Yesterday, Corbett quoted three news stories about Conahan and Peter Paul got slammed. Peter Paul Olszewski is cooked meet. I hope he remembers how to practice law because his judicial career is over. Here comes a nervous breakdown on the bench. Talk about crash and burn. Oh boy!

I must say that Judge Burke is one of the most honest, sincere, and qualified jurist that I know. He is a true man of integrity. I ask that you please support his retention in November.

Come Nov. Peter Paul will be looking for new job. He thankfully will no longer be a judge.
